Video Transcript for Draw-Tite 1-7/8 inch Chrome Hitch Ball Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Draw-Tite's one and seven eighths inch hitch ball with a three quarter inch shank. This ball is designed to work with both Class I and Class II hitches. With a maximum towing capacity of 2000 pounds, that makes it perfect for our Class I trailer here that also accepts a one and seven eighths inch ball. We can just slide it down on there and it snaps in place keeping it nice and secure. This ball mount is going to be ideal for small utility trailers like this for if you just need to get some things moved around or maybe you're helping a buddy move and you just need to have some extra space. And it's also great for recreational activities like hauling around some dirt bikes or possibly some small jet skis or ATVs.

Our ball is constructed of a cold forged steel with a chrome plating to give it a nice appearance and also to protect it against corrosion. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it mounted up onto your ball mount. Now that you got your ball, you are going to need a ball mount for it. You'll want to choose one with the appropriate drop that matches your trailer so you'll have a nice level towing experience. That'll just provide better tongue weight and transitioning of the weight onto your vehicle. We'll now need to take our ball, we're going to put it in our ball mount.

You'll want to choose if you want it in the drop or rise position. We're going to be placing ours in the rise position, so that way when it's in our trailer, it raises it up. Place the included lock washer on the back, followed by the nut. We'll then want to clamp our ball into our vice here. And then we can tighten it down to the specifications included with your ball. When you're ready to use the ball mount, you simply slide it into your one and a quarter inch receiver matching up the hole with the ball mount in the hole in the hitch.

We'll then take the included half inch hitch pin and clip to secure it to our receiver. And we're now ready to attach our trailer to it. And that completes our look at Draw-Tite's one and seven eighths inch hitch ball with a three quarter inch shank.

One year later and still happy with product and support available from etrailer.com! I use this to tow a pop-up to/from track days with my Camaro.

by:

Hitch ball worked great for the hitch we put on our 2008 Pontiac vibe.

by:

Fit great on 2020 Hyundai Sonata, had to make long cut in muffler heat shield, & panel on other side of trunk. Took about an hour to install & retrofit panels. Wiring the lights took a little longer, didn't want to mess up the interior. But with that said, this is my 4th hitch I've bought from this company. 2011 Camaro convertible, 2008 Cobalt, just don't stick your finger in a hole that is too small. LOL

by:

I was very suspicious how will it fit and suit Dodge Challenger. But when I received trailer hitch, and by they way it travelled across the planet to reach me, I was totally impressed with the quality, ease of installation and accessories which I ordered with it. I basically installed it myself with a help of a friend, it took about 30 minutes to fix it. It really saved me as I needed the trailer to transport my bike to the race track and I didn't want to change the car.
So the conclusion, I own it for more than a year and have zero issues or complaints about the hitch or accessories. I used to travel long and short distances and in average I use it every second week. You barely can notice it when you remove drawbar so it is very good solution.

by:

just what i needed for my trailer-refuse to take garbage in my mustang -- easy to pull the trailer.

by:

Product is well made and works great for my Small Trailer towing.

by:

Was told this is the item I needed but incorrect. However etrailer did give me a full refund.

by:

The Hitch Ball with 1-7/8" diameter and short shank fit perfectly on the drawbar with 4" rise. I have included a picture to show how nicely it mounted to the car. Thanks for the fast service!

by:

I installed this on my 2015 Honda Accord for the purpose of pulling my small aluminum fishing boat and trailer. Works great!

by:

Very quick service. Professional. Everything is exactly as described.

by:

Toyota threw me a curve ball with 2 metal support brackets installed where the trailer hitch should go. Apparently they did this in 2015, as they do not show up in 2014 videos - anyway, I removed these and that allowed access to 6 pre-installed nuts that the supplied hardware screwed right into. I also ordered the wiring kit which plugged in with no issues. I've already made 2 trips with my small utility trailer, plus plan to haul bikes with it, also. The hitch looks great (but a little dirty due to lots of rain brought in by Hurricane Harvey).

by:

I ordered the parts on a Monday night and it arrived on Thursday which Is fast. The parts are excellent quality and the installation was just like the video described it. I am very impressed with my e trailer experience and will recommend them to anyone. Thank you etrailer.

It is good to know that the hitch is there when it is needed. All the components are still intacttight and I feel confident with the hitch

by:

I ordered parts for trailer hitch and lights a year ago. My car guys installed it apparently with no problem. There was no problem with my order and the product has worked just fine. The hitch has been used to pull a trailer and to hold a bike rack. I am pleased! Thanks!

by:

Fits great..easy to install!!

by:

This is the second hitch I have purchased from etrailer and, again, it was a perfect fit. Everything I buy from here is exactly what they say it is and exactly what I was needing.

I will always recommend etrailer, they have never let me down.

All is good. All products are performing as expected and wanted. As usual I am more than satisfied with every product I have purchased from you. I also suggest to others they buy from you asbI have always had good experiences.

by:

I have a 05 Honda Accord and not only was this the most affordable option it has been a very great hitch and ball set up. I use my Accord V^ car like a truck with a trailer to make home improvements on my house. This set up has been very dependable and sturdy for the job at hand. Thanks again etrailer for ease and access to great towing products. etrailer has been my "go to" for over 12 years now and I would never shop any where else !

by:

It's a good ball. The plating wears out pretty quickly leaving a brass color underneath. Still no complaints though, it does what it's supposed to. I bought this to use since my hitch was a class II. Uhaul trailers and most ball receivers are made for either this or the larger ball so might as well just go with the 2".

by:

I bought a tow bar, hitch and wiring harness. Everything fit like it was supposed to, but the draw bar would have been easier to install if the car was brand new (8 yrs old, pre-threaded holes in frame corroded) but I made it work and now I can tow my boat!

by:

This ball hitch was the most recent item I’ve purchased with GREAT SATISFACTION from etrailer- they have provided hitches, wiring harnesses and accessories quickly after each online purchase, 5 out of 5 stars and THANKS!

by:

With the car I had this on (Mazda 3), this was not high enough to pull the trailer I needed without it scraping on the ground. Needed to make the hitch mount into a riser and it was still close to the ground so I purchased a taller ball.

by:

Got my two orders, a trailer hitch, draw bar, pin and ball, didn't order all the 1st time. It was easy to find everything I needed on the site. The videos that showed how to install the hitch and wiring on my particular vehicle were to the point and easy to follow. at least one tip the guy gave, was to get yourself some extra zip ties, which I did and found it to be a great tip, (don't remember if he mentioned length, but I got some 8 or 10" and at a couple points it made it easier, It may have something to do with my age). Without the videos, I most likely wouldn't have tried to install any of it myself, it took me about 6 hours or so with breaks here and there but I am very satisfied. would add pictures but not at all tech savvy, have everything I need, just can't get them on there. Thanks all at etrailer for making something I put off for a long time, easy. Thanks again! R.R.

  • How to Pick Out Ball Mount for Truck Towing Small Trailer
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height is...

  • How to Determine Towing Capacity of 2014 Dodge Ram 1500
Your owners manual is giving you two capacities with differences depending on how the truck is equipped. Your safest option would be to check with a Ram dealer to see what they recommend. Or you can use the GCWR in the door jamb. It's not always evident what a truck's max capacity is, even by reading the owner's manual, but if you look at the ratings sticker on the driver's side door jamb, you can get an accurate statement of the truck's towing abilities. On the sticker, look for the Gross...

  • Can a Class II Ball be Used in a Class I Ball Mount
Yes, if a ball is labeled as a Class II it can still fit a Class I ball mount. All that matters is that the shank on the ball is the right size for the ball mount's mounting hole. Ball # 19256 for example has a 3/4 inch diameter shank so it fits any ball mount with a 3/4 inch ball hole which is many Class I and II ball mounts. Please note that no matter what you always go by the lowest rated component in the system. So if the ball mount is rated for 2,000 pounds, the hitch for 3,000 but...

  • How to Determine if Unmarked Trailer Coupler is for 2 inch or 1-7/8 inch Hitch Ball
If you have access to a 2 inch ball you should try fitting that into the coupler and see if it will latch on to it. That will be the best indicator. Based on what you said though it sounds like you have a 1-7/8 inch ball coupler as it fits into the coupler and only has a little bit of play.

  • Is There Difference Between 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch Ball
The two sizes you mentioned are different balls. The larger size typically has higher capacities and fits couplers that are designed for it's size. The 2 inch size is typically seen in lighter duty applications. You have to match the correct size hitch ball with what the coupler is designed to fit. I attached a link to a page that has all of the hitch balls we carry as well.

  • How Tight Should Trailer Coupler Be on Hitch Ball
A little bit of play is acceptable, the coupler should be tight enough that the coupler won't come off the ball, but not so tight you can't close the latch. I typically tighten the coupler up until I feel a slight resistance when closing the coupler latch, then I'll back it off slightly from there.
