Can a Class II Ball be Used in a Class I Ball Mount
Question:
Can a Class II ball work with Class I hitch and drawbar?

Expert Reply:
Yes, if a ball is labeled as a Class II it can still fit a Class I ball mount. All that matters is that the shank on the ball is the right size for the ball mount's mounting hole. Ball # 19256 for example has a 3/4 inch diameter shank so it fits any ball mount with a 3/4 inch ball hole which is many Class I and II ball mounts.
Please note that no matter what you always go by the lowest rated component in the system. So if the ball mount is rated for 2,000 pounds, the hitch for 3,000 but the ball is only rated for 1,000 then you are limited to 1,000 pounds.
