Question:

Numbers please, I cant find any associated with any of the 1 7/8inch balls. Also please be clear about units, I need to know if its lb/ft, nt/cm or slug/cubit... remember the Mars orbiter?

The correct torque value for the nut on a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball depends on the diameter of the shank. Draw-Tite, who makes # 19256 and # 19260 lists the following torque specs:

"During hitch ball installation, torque all 3/4" shank diameter balls to 160 ft. lbs, 1" shank diameter balls to 250 ft. lbs., and 1-1/4" shank diameter balls to 450 ft. lbs."
