How to Determine Towing Capacity of 2014 Dodge Ram 1500

Im new to travel trailers and getting lost in all the figures I have 2007 29B cherokee lite by Forrest river sticker says gvwr 7720 on the trailer I have a 2014 dodge ram 1500 slt quad cab sticker on the door says 6800 gvwr But when I look in owners manual it say 5000lb or 10,500 max Im lost on what I can tow

Your owners manual is giving you two capacities with differences depending on how the truck is equipped. Your safest option would be to check with a Ram dealer to see what they recommend. Or you can use the GCWR in the door jamb.

It's not always evident what a truck's max capacity is, even by reading the owner's manual, but if you look at the ratings sticker on the driver's side door jamb, you can get an accurate statement of the truck's towing abilities. On the sticker, look for the Gross Combined Weight Rating, GWCR which is the maximum amount the truck plus the fully loaded trailer can weigh. From that, subtract the GVW, which represents the curb weight of the vehicle, plus gasoline, cargo and passengers. The result you get will be the maximum trailer weight your vehicle can handle
