HEAVY, strong shank! I just wished I had measured from my hitch to the ground to get an idea of what I needed, first. On my'07 Silverado (GMT-900) with air bags in the rear and stock leafs, the bottom of this thing hovers just 4" off the ground! Less with a load on the flatbed trailer. Drove down a grass hill in my yard and have a nice trench there now. I'm going to have to cut as much off of this as possible. SOLID steel piece, too, so that should be fun.

Ended up buying a 93 Ram W250 Cummins for a tow rig, and now this thing is too short! Had to buy a longer shank.

by:

Excellent service. Needed new hitch shank with more drop. Called on a Sunday afternoon Amy found what I needed,,,had it at my house Tuesday. Nobody’s better…..Thanks

by:

I have a different manufacturer trunnion style equalizer and I was able to make this work with a few spacers because the down tube on the old hitch was 2 1/2" square, not 2". Our new Tahoe has a much higher mounted receiver than our old, and this leveled out our 30' travel trailer perfectly. Hitch was shipped and delivered promptly.

One item to note is that this does extend out a little further than the average shank. Safety chains could be a tight fit if they are a little shorter. May need a chain extension.

by:

This hitch adapted perfectly to my current Husky Center Line weight distribution hitch. Our new Suburban has a higher mounted hitch receiver compared to our old vehicle. This helped level out our 29' travel trailer perfectly after a few adjustments. Hitch was shipped and delivered earlier than expected.

by:

This weight distributing hitch shank was just the item I needed to drop my hitch ball head, and level my travel trailer, after buying a new tow vehicle. Great selection, informative web site, good price, and fast delivery. Thanks etrailer !

by:

It does what it was designed to do.

When
I bought an Explorer, I could no longer tow my cargo trailer level. Now, once again, I can.

This shank is heavy. It appears to be a solid bar, instead of hollow tubing, like all other hitch components I've owned. It's not a problem, but the weight was a surprise.

by:

Nice quality item, would have been 5 star except the one of the welds could have been cleaned up better. Had to drop hitch due to going from a 1500 to a 2500 HD. Good fit.

by:

I needed a 5 3/4 inch drop with my new suburban, This worked perfectly. Site was easy to manage and delivery was prompt!

by:

Received a day early. Great help from tech to purchase proper adjustable shank. Will continue to deal with ETRAILER.

by:

This shank was just what I needed to attach my Dodge Durango to my Jayco X17Z travel trailer. This item is well made and durable. Thanks E a Trailer.

by:

Rock solid shank! This fits my slightly lifted 2008 Ram 1500 perfectly. It is being used on a Reese trunnion bar weight distribution hitch system and I couldn't be more pleased. Also, I had purchased a different shank that was too long and Michelle from etrailer took excellent care of me and got me the right product. I love etrailer!

Bought an even taller 2016 RAM 2500 and ped the shank a notch. BAM! Still works great! This is a top quality shank.

by:

This Shank worked great. It pulled our camper last summer over 5,000 miles on one trip and 250 miles on another. Have had no problems installing the equalizer hitch head from the old shank. Our new car sits high than the old one and we needed to lower the equalizer head 1.25 inches to have the camper sit level for towing.

Derk R.

6/25/2019

We still have the Shank but we have a new camper. It rides at a different height and we had to go to a different Shank. We will keep it in case it is needed for something else. We have many trailers here that many need it.

by:

The Curt Weight Distribution system solved most of the trailer sway for us. Unfortunately, we needed to purchase a second shank to get the trailer level even after specking our purchase for a 3500HD Chevrolet Silverado. Seems like we should have gotten this shank with our kit.

Proper shank height is determined by hitch height on the tow vehicle and coupler height on the trailer. Hitch height is not the same on every single Silverado 3500HD of a given year. The only way to know what shank will be adequate is to measure the hitch height of your specific truck on level ground. Then do the same for the trailer coupler.

The new shank help us level the trailer out and it seems better now.

by:

I fits ok but I had to shim the ball mount to get it to fit tight

by:

Great Product. Heavy Duty. Works with the convert-a-ball ball mount adapter (BA-1).

by:

Part is just what I needed. Upgraded my tow vehicle and the new hitch is 2 inches higher. My WDH did not have room to go lower and this solved the problem. Thank you E-Trailer.

Been using the hitch for the past year. No problems to report.

by:

A perfect fit! Will do the job. Outstanding service from Angela, thank you

by:

We bought this to help level our towing set up and it works perfectly. We have a local trailer shop who transferred the WDH to this extension for free and it's awesome. The very sturdy construction and shear weight of this leaves no doubt in my mind that it is going to last us at least as long as our truck lasts. Then, if our new vehicle needs the tow ball at a different height, we've got it covered. The shipping was quick and it all worked as advertised. Thanks, etrailer! PS. Do NOT kick this with your big toe while it sits on your garage floor. It WILL hurt.

by:

This is a solid steel link and it worked out well allowing for better trailer tung /ball alignment. The 45 degree reinforcing plate does extend the hitch out a couple of inches or so farther then normal but in using a weight distribution hitch I haven’t noticed any issues other than making it easier to step through.
The only improvement might be a longer extension of the square stock beyond the pin hole to reduce side to side movement

by:

Works great with the Curt Hitch Head I bought. Assembling both together was easy and took very little time. I couldn’t believe how much better the trailer hookup was with a weight distribution system. Makes me feel better with the truck front end not sticking up when going down the road.

by:

High quality and perfect for the new height of the trailer after I flipped the axles to get better ground clearance.

Perfect!

by:

I wish Curt Manuf. had supplied this shank in their weight distribution hitch package. The new shank didn't match the specifications exactly but did allow me more than enough drop. The shank supplied in the weight control hitch package provides considerable rise but no drop. E-trailer customer service was great. They contacted me about a temporary out of stock item, offered alternatives and I still received all my items very quickly. It is the fastest free shipping I have ever seen.

by:

I have an old travel travel trailer and with the shank I had I could not level the trailer. This shank allowed me to get the ball low enough to travel with a level trailer and making it easier to dry dock. I have been will pleased with it. The the RV place near me was asking where I found it and I told them etrailer.com .

by:

One reviewer cautioned about mixing manufacturers. I have a new tow vehicle and needed to lower the ball 2 inches. The Curt was a perfect match for my EazLift hitch. It was a couple of inches longer, too. My tailgate clears the hitch jack with plenty of room to spare, now.

by:

As pointed out by other reviewers, the pictures don't do this shank justice. It is very well made, with good-looking welds and nicely coated. The edges and holes are nicely finished. I already mounted this Curt shank onto my Reese hitch and it fits perfectly.

I rather prefer this fabricated steel shank to the Reese / Cequent cast steel units (which don't exactly exhibit as much craftsmanship, in my opinion). It seems to me that there is a lot of pride built into this Curt shank.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 10,000 lbs Travel Trailer
Yes, I would recommend using a weight distribution hitch with sway control. I am a big fan of Equalizer for their reliability, ease of use, and affordability. It looks like your 2022 E2W Alta 2810KIK TT tops out at 9,597 lbs when fully loaded. Weight distribution systems are recommended based off of tongue weight which is typically between 10% - 15% of your trailer's total weight. Which would put yours between 960 lbs - 1,440 lbs. I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point...

  • Shank with More Drop for Blue Ox Weight Distribution System # BLU45FR
The shank that comes with Blue Ox weight distribution system # BLU45FR has a drop of 1-1/2 inches so for a shank that has 3 inches of drop you can use # C17100. But you may want to go with something that offers more rise/drop options just in case you need it in the future. For that I recommend # 17120. For a round bar weight distribution system it offers up to 6-1/8 inches of drop and up to 10 inches of rise. Both shanks listed above are compatible with your weight distribution system.

  • Weight Distribution Shank for Curt System C17120 with Two Addition Holes for More Drop

  • Can Weight Distribution be Used in Ford 3 inch Hitch
We don't have any weight distribution shanks to fit a 3 inch hitch directly but at this time we do have ones that will fit a 2-1/2 inch hitch which might help reduce some of the play. For a Reese we have the # RP3215. This would bring you down to using only one hitch reducer. Typically the amount of spring bar tension that a weight distribution system puts on the hitch reduces all of the movement and anti-rattle devices aren't needed.

  • Weight Distribution Shank Needed to Compensate for Lifted Truck
For use with a weight distribution system, I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17120. The drop needed to compensate with your truck will be different for each truck. I have attached an article on how to determine what size drop or rise is needed for you vehicle. The Curt shank # 17120 would provide you with a drop of 5-3/4 inches, and a rise of 9-1/4 inches. This shank is rated for use with weight distribution systems up to 15,000 pounds. I have attached a review video of...

  • Hitch Ball and Shank Recommendations for a Equalizer WD System
You would need to measure the shank of your current hitch ball to see if it would be compatible. You will need to measure the width of the threaded portion of the ball as well as the length of that same portion. For a hitch ball that fits the required dimension you would want part # 63018 for a 2 inch ball or part # 63019 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. For a shank you could use the part # 17120 as it would be compatible and would work well.

  • Availability of Drop Shank for Weight Distribution Systems
Most weight distribution systems are designed to fit shanks that have holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart and the holes are 3/4 inches in diameter. You will need to measure the dimensions of the holes on your current shank to see if something like the part # 17120 would fit which has a decent amount of drop. Or for a larger drop the part # C17123 might work as well.

  • Options For A Shank With More Drop For The Curt C17501 TruTrack Weight Distribution System
The shank that comes included with the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17501 does indeed only offer 1/2" of drop. Though it will depend on how much drop is needed, and you do have 1-1/2" up and down to still technically be level, we do have a couple other shanks that will offer more drop. The Curt # 17120 will offer 5-3/4" drop and the # C17123 will offer 8-1/4" of drop. These will cover most vehicles and are both rated to 1,500 pounds of tongue weight and 15,000 pounds towing,...

Yes, the Curt Shank # 17120 that you referenced will work great with your existing Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET to provide you with a bit more length. • Shank With At Least 5 Inch Drop for Curt Weight Distribution System
Ideally, when you set the weight distribution shank up, you want the ball height to be about 1 inch or so taller than the coupler height. Since the Curt # 17120 shank you referenced has a maximum drop of 5-3/4 inches, which would be perfect for your coupler height.

The Curt TruTrack part # C17499 that you referenced is not available without a shank so you'd need to also go with the shank part # 17120 which would provide the drop you'd need. We also don't carry a similar rated system without a shank but we do have the Reese Steadi Flex part # RP66559 which has a tongue weight range of 500 to 1,000 lbs and comes with a shank that can do 4 inches of drop.

  • Drop Weight Distribution Shank Recommendation for a Reese WD System Used on Chevy 1500 Silverado
First you will want to determine how much drop you will need to tow your trailer level. Check out the FAQ article I attached to the right that details how to determine this. If you need up to 5-3/4 inches of drop I would recommend the Curt Shank part # 17120, if you need up to 9 inches of drop I would recommend the Curt Shank # C17124. The Curt shanks have been confirmed to fit the Reese weight distribution systems so they will work well for you.

  • Curt Weight Distribution System and Drop Shank that Allows 5 inches of Drop Recommendation
All of the Curt Weight Distribution Systems like the part # C17052 that you referenced come with a standard shank that can only do a drop of 1-1/2 inches. The good news is that the Curt systems are priced so great that having to get a drop shank like the part # 17120 which can do 6-1/8 inches of drop still costs less than going with a different system that doesn't include a shank.

  • Can Curt Weight Distribution Shank be Used with Reese Weight Distribution System
Some weight distribution shanks are specific to their manufacturer and cannot be used with a system it's not intended for. An example is the Reese # RP54970. To avoid running into a situation that does not fit for a specific application is why we recommend sticking with the same manufacturer if possible. However, the Curt # 17120 that you are looking at is a standard design, and will work just fine with your Reese system.

To answer your first question, the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0600 is compatible with the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17120. As for being level, it is important to ensure your rig handles correctly; being unlevel will make it quite a bit more difficult to handle your tow vehicle.
