I needed more clearance between my tongue jack and tailgate. This item was the perfect fit. I also had an issue with the trailer not responding to steering inputs from my Ram 2500. The trailer was just too close to the truck and it responds great to steering inputs now. Very satisfied.

by:

This shank was just what I needed for my application. The service and response time from etrailer was fantastic! I placed the order after 6:00pm Monday night, and had the box at my front door before noon on Wednesday. And, that was with standard (free) shipping.

I have used this shank on my Tahoe for a year. It has performed perfectly. It allows the hatch door to be openedclosed while the trailer is connected.

by:

Perfect solution for our 2016 Ford F350 and horse trailer. It's now perfectly level.

by:

My first try at 'RV Trailer' but after purchasing a used 31' Holiday Rambler I discovered I didn't like riding a Disney Tea Cup while pulling the trailer. Seems my receiver at 20" was actually 24" making the trailer tongue too high. My first order was not due to ship until after I left, contacted customer support and Vanessa researched my problems: Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty mud flaps and 4 inch drop. With the C17121 I modified the Rock Tamers and gained my drop with an extra 1.5" or one hole left. The customer service was beyond belief and the product arrive on time, packed as if it was an egg which was hard to do with all that solid steel, lots of solid steel. Overall 10 star experience for me...

by:

I couldn’t be happier with the product or the service. Shawn called me when there was an issue with delivery on the product I ordered and did an awesome job of finding an alternative. Outstanding!

by:

Received the hitch bracket and packaging was sufficience. The tongue is significantly longer than the standand tongue was. The bracket provided the correct drop I needed for my loadleveling hitch. It would have been better to see a picture of the bracket with dimensions prior to purchasing so I would have know what I was buying. It does work as designed.

by:

I am happy with this product. It allowed me to use a weight distribution hitch and drop it down low enough to keep the trailer level. It is heavy and well built. First time out I pulled a heavy trailer 1700 miles and it performed flawlessly.

by:

It fit perfectly on my lifted f250. Also it gave me enough flexibility because it's very adjustable so I'm very happy with the shank. I was able to use this shank with an existing weight alignment hitch that had circular bars for the weight distribution system. Thanks

by:

Hitch shank is for my new 2020 Ram 2500 and is exactly what I hoped for. Allows enough drop for level towing of my travel trailer. Nice surprise is I can open my tailgate with trailer hitched up. Ordered on Saturday and arrived Wednesday morning with free shipping. E-trailer comes through again, thanks.

by:

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. The drop down works great with my bumper pull 24’ trailer. The trailer rows well and sits level.

by:

Worked great for towing my camper with Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The trailer tongue clears the spare tire now.

by:

Unbelievable service !! Cathy was awesome gave her the measurement for a drop hitch and she sent me exactly what I needed . Ordered on Wednesday at 9am and received it Thursday at 12pm . Everything was perfect. Unbelievable service!! Thank You !!

by:

Welds were not great. Voids and imperfect beads. Had to take to weld shop and pay to reinforce the welds. Welds weren't like the video or pictures. Didn't have time to send back because of impending Rv trip. So just reinforced the welds ground flat and repainted with Bed liner paint from rust oleum ????

by:

Works perfectly, bought it for my H2 because of the rear spare tire. Good buy!!

by:

The shank is perfect for pulling an airstream trailer. Service is perfect too

by:

Looking to add this to my setup since my stock shank only drops a total of 2". George J. You are the man!

by:

I ordered, it arrived. So simple, yet sometimes doesn't work out so good. It worked out great! Thanks etrailer!

by:

Very nice product, exactly as described, very heavy duty. Quality is definitely 5 star. Ordered on a Sunday arrived on Wednesday, fast shipping as usual.

by:

Received it quicker than anticipated. Great product.

by:

Works great. Needed for 3/4 ton truck which sat too high.

  • Can the Curt # C17121 Shank be Used with a Blue Ox Weight Distribution System
Yes you can! All of our WD shanks, including the Curt # C17121 that you referenced, are compatible with other WD systems. The part where the head of your WD sits is 2" wide and the mounting holes are 1-1/4" apart on center. I have attached a review video for you to reference as well.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Shank to Tow 10,000 Pound Trailer with 2010 GMC Sierra
According to your calculations, the difference between the receiver and coupler height is 5-1/2 inches inches, therefore a 7 inch drop shank with a 15,000 lbs weight capacity, like # C17121, should work well. I have attached a video review of this shank and a FAQ article about choosing the correct ball mount and determining the correct rise/drop for you to check out.

  • Rise and Drop of Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17121
Curt measures rise and drop differently and they also round to the nearest whole number. We measure rise or drop from the top of the trailer hitch receiver opening to the top of the ball platform (or in this case to the top of the weight distribution head ball platform). And we do not round off the numbers.

  • 6 Inch Drop Weight Distribution Shank Recommendation for a Pro Series WD System
I attached a link to the right that details how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount for you to check out. First we need to determine exactly how much drop you need. It sounds like you need 6 inches of drop. Which for a shank for your Pro Series Weight Distribution system that can do 6 inches of drop you would want the Reese Weight Dist Shank # RP63971 that you referenced as it can do a max of 6-1/2 inches of drop with a round bar WD system. If you have a trunnion bar setup you...

  • Weight Distribution Shank for Fastway e2 with More Drop and Longer Shank than Included Shank
I can certainly help you choose a weight distribution shank that will offer you more drop and stick out further from the trailer hitch receiver. Since the shank that comes with the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-1000 offers a 1-5/8 inch drop and you need an additional 3 inches of drop, I found 2 different weight distribution shanks that I recommend, as they offer approximately 5 inches of drop and will sit further away from your truck. • Will I Need a Longer Weight Distribution Shank if I Switch to a Lifted Truck?
If you only have the shank that came with your Blue Ox SwayPro system, then you will almost definitely need a longer shank to tow with a lifted F-350. The good news is the brand isn't all that important because most shanks are interchangeable between brands and we can help you figure out what size shank you will actually need. I attached a help article to this page that talks about how to find the correct rise or drop for a ball mount. Basically, you will just want to get your truck and...

  • Which Weight Distribution Shank for 24 Inch Receiver Height and 17 Inch Coupler Height
Ideally, you'll want your weight distribution head to sit about 3/4 to 1-1/2 inches higher than the level coupler height of the trailer to compensate for trailer squat. Since the difference in your coupler and receiver height is 7 inches, I'd recommend you go with a shank that offers at least a 6 inch drop, like the Curt # C17121. This would put your trailer ball about 1 inch above level, which would be absolutely perfect.

  • Selecting Replacement Shank for Curt Weight Distribution System
All Curt 2-inch weight distribution shanks are displays on the linked page. These offer varying amounts of drop and rise depending on the type of system you have, round bar or trunnion bar. Curt shank # 17120 will give 6-1/8-inches of drop with round bars but only 5-3/4-inches of drop if your system uses trunnion bars. Overall height is 10-3/4-inches. 12-inch tall shank # C17121 offers 7-1/2-inches of drop with round bars and 7-inches with trunnions, as does the 10-inch tall shank # C17122.

  • How to Determine Correct Drop for Weight Distribution Shank
To find the correct rise or drop what you need to measure is the from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver opening, which it sounds like you have done and got 25-1/2". You also need to measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. You said the trailer is 18-1/2" off the ground so you just want to be sure this measurement is to the bottom of the coupler. The correct drop for a weight distribution shank will be the difference between the hitch height and coupler height, which...

It sounds like you simply need a weight distribution shank with more rise that will work with your Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66558 and that is definitely something available because weight distribution shanks are interchangeable between manufacturers. • Will Curt Weight Distribution Shanks Work with a Pro Series Round Bar Weight Distribution System
Based on the hitch and coupler measurements you provided, you will want a weight distribution shank that will give you about 6 inches of drop. It is 16 inches long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the shank. If you do not need a shank that long, you could use part # C17121. This is basically the same shank, but it is only...

I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank, part # 17120. This shank has a maximum drop of 6-1/8 inches or up to 10 inch rise with a round bar weight distribution system and should be just what you need.
