Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Extender Diagram

Note: Measurements given in the diagram above are based on the crossbar's minimum height without the extension.

Yakima LongArm in Lowest Position

The adjustable Yakima LongArm extends 4' from your 2" hitch to let you transport oversized cargo at either truck bed, bed rail, or cab height. The versatile load extender has a 60" long support bar that's perfect for carrying kayaks, a canoe, ladders, lumber, or any other load that extends past the end of your truck, SUV, or UTV. Constructed out of lightweight aluminum, the LongArm has a durable powder coat finish to ensure that it stands up to whatever your adventures throw at it

Customizable Cargo Control

Yakima LongArm Height Adapter

The LongArm features 4 adjustable positions, allowing it to be customized to your vehicle as well as the load you're carrying. The included height adapter works in conjunction with a roof rack (sold separately) so you can carry gear at cab height. This configuration also increases your carrying capacity by allowing you to transport gear both in and above your truck bed. The adapter has 11 levels of adjustment, ensuring it'll be the perfect fit for your vehicle and whatever gear you're hauling.

Yakima LongArm Foldable for Storage

This position also allows the LongArm to be stowed up and out of the way, near your truck's tailgate, when not in use. Be sure to lower the crossbar back to its original position.

Yakima LongArm Adjustable Truck Bed Position

In its lowest position (bed extender configuration), the LongArm lets you haul long loads that extend past the bed of your truck.

Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Rail Position

The two middle positions (rail height configurations) work in conjunction with a truck bed crossbar system (sold separately) so you can carry gear at bed rail height. Similar to the cab height position, you can carry gear both in and above your truck bed. The two available settings allow the LongArm to work with truck beds of different heights.

Adjustable Crossbar with Tie-Down Points

Yakima LongArm Adjustable Height

The LongArm's crossbar extends 60" across and has 3 adjustable height settings, ensuring your cargo stays level with the your truck's tailgate or bed rails. Integrated tie-down points located in the endcaps secure your equipment to the crossbar.

Yakima LongArm Integrated Tie-Down Points with Built-in Bottle Openers

Once you're done with your adventures for the day, kick back and pop open a cold one with the built-in bottle openers on either end of the crossbar.

Yakima LongArm Crossbar Pad

The available crossbar pad (Y07417 - sold separately) protects your equipment from scrapes and scratches while hauling. Velcro closures hold the pad closed, and it can be positioned in the center of the bar or on either side.

Easy installation with Threaded Hitch Pin

Yakima LongArm Hitch Lock And Washer

The LongArm installs quickly and easily with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank into your 2" hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included wrench. This not only secures the rack to your vehicle, but also reduces noise and movement while the extender is installed.

Yakima HitchLock for Yakima LongArm

For added security you can add a hitchlock (Y07235 - sold separately) to lock the LongArm to your vehicle's hitch receiver. The lock simply attaches over the existing hitch pin and features a Same Key System (SKS) lock core and keys. The lock can also be swapped out to make all of your Yakima products keyed alike.

I bought this aluminum bed extender / roof rack extender about a year ago. I haven't used it a lot but when I need it, works great. I use it on my Rivian mostly for carrying long lumber or kayaks. The adjustment to switch between bed extender and roof rack is pretty simple. I like the light weight of the aluminum. I would recommend this product.

At first the item was not in stock so customer service offered a similar item along with an estimate of getting the original item in stock. I elected to stay with the original item (the Yak longarm). Well they got the item in stock a week before their estimate, so I had it in my grubby little hands and installed a full week BEFORE they had estimated actually having it. Reminds me of Scotty on the original Star Trek series - take your estimate , multiply by 4, then when you get it done in half the time everyone is happy. The item arrived in new condition with all parts. I will definitely be ordering from etrailer again. Very Satisfied.

This thing is exactly what I have been waiting for for many years as a painter I do not like ladder racks that are always on and I do not like 200 lb steel units that I have had in the past I kept asking around for an aluminum one to be invented and WOW here it is the weight is almost nothing and I can not carry my 40 foot extension ladders with ease then take the unit off for the weekends etc I could not be happier plus it is a yakima which have always been one of the best out there for portability and durability

Were glad youre happy with your purchase, Ron. Im not sure how many ladders youre carrying, but I just wanted to let you know per the product description, the load extender has a 165 lb capacity when used in the upright, vertical position and a 300 lb capacity when used in the horizontal position.

by:

Worked great with my frontier and 10 foot kayaks with room to spare. I also bought the extension. It's nice but not sure I needed it. Only thing wrong was the first holes on the extension didn't line up right and had to drill them out to make it go as short as possible.

by:

I have been looking for a way to carry long, relatively light loads above the roof of my Jeep Wrangler while minimizing the load on the plastic roof which has short, weak rain gutters over the doors. I have a "Goal Post" unit that works well in my front hitch receiver but it would not fit behind the spare tire on the rear door. The Yakima Long Arm Load Extender fits nicely in the back and when combined with the Goal Post unit in front and two roof bars, provides a four point support for long loads.
The only down side is that it requires a little pre-planning as the rear door can't be opened with the Yakima unit in place. That is OK for me as I will only install it temporarily when carrying a long load.

PS I took some photos for you but for some unknown reason your web site says they are "unsuccessful to upload". Maybe you will get them but maybe not.

by:

I'm giving it 5 stars because I think it's going to work well. It arrived on time, directions were well written and assembly was easy. Attached it to my Ridgeline without any problems. My primary use is for hauling kayaks and occasional longer items like ladder/lumber that don't fit in the bed of the Ridgeline. I picked the Yakima LongArm instead of other brands because it can be folded up when not in use. After unloading the kayaks, I can easily fold it up and park the vehicle without worrying someone accidently hitting it in the parking lot. I'm glad I bought the Roof Load Extender because this allows more adjustments so that the kayak/ladder can sit flat on the bed of the truck. Without the Extender, there aren't enough height adjustments to make it the same height as the truck bed. Overall I think it is a great product.

This Yakima T-bar has allowed us to carry a 31 foot double rowing shell on the roof of our Chevrolet Bolt. If it makes our car very versatile.

by:

I've used this to haul my canoe on my pickup a few times this summer and found it to be really easy to use. Quality hardware as well.

by:

A great buying experience. Etrailer was the only retailer with the product in stock, and my order was processed and shipped quickly so I received much sooner than expected. You just can't beat that kind of service. Thanks!

by:

Top quality. Exactly as expected. easy to assemble and install. GREAT customer service from trainer. Had to change the delivery address and they VERY quickly helped process the change.

by:

Product arrived in a timely fashion with all of its parts. Assembly was relatively quick and easy. We expect it will meet our needs quite nicely when put to the test.

Overall, Yakima makes a nice quality product. I did have to make some modifications as it did not give me just what I needed for support with my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I put an extra mounting hole in the T-Bar so that I could mount it all of the way in. Then I had to add extra hole to the Tongue bracket to get the correct angle to support a load sticking out of the bed of the truck. I also picked up a pair of Nylock nuts for the bolts rather than using the lock washers provided. I will have to add a grommet to the flag in order to use it. Overall the unit is very solid when I have it mounted on my truck

  • Maximum and Minimum Heights of Yakima LongArm Load Extender
Without the extension piece installed the Yakima LongArm Bed and Roof Load Extender # Y01149-1150 sits 9" out and 46-3/4" up from the center of the hitch pin hole (see attached photo). The extension piece adds between 7-1/2" and 21-1/2" to the height so with the extension you're looking at 9" out and then 54-1/4" min to 68-1/4" max up from the center of the hitch pin hole. • What Hitch Pin Lock Fits the Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender?
Yes! If you have either the Yakima LongArm # Y01149-1150 or the # Y01149, the locking hitch pin you need is the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks - Same Key System # Y07235. This hitch lock attaches to the hitch bolt that comes with the LongArm. If you need the replacement hitch bolt itself, that is the # Y8890200.

For a cab-height load you will want to go with the Yakima LongArm Bed and Roof Load Extender for 2" Hitches - Aluminum - 165 lbs # Y01149-1150. I also recommend adding Crossbar Pad # Y07417 to prevent your canoe or other items from getting scratched. This measures 28" long and wraps around the Yakima Longarm crossbar. You could also...

None of the ladder racks available for the 2014 Toyota Tacoma will work with a Tonneau cover installed on the bed but I do have a solution for you. Also the ladder rack for the BAKFlip CS will not fit because it is designed to attach to a special rail system which isn't available (unless BAK can offer them) and that is not on the regular F1 tonneau covers like you have. The crossbar that comes with the Yakima LongArm # Y01149-1150 is 60 inches long so if the kayaks combine for a total width that is less than that they could both fit. But you also need enough space on the factory crossbars on your 2016 Toyota RAV4 so the kayaks are not hanging off the sides of the vehicle.
