Video Transcript for Malone Truck Racks Foam Kayak Block Review

Hey everybody, welcome to etrailer.com. I'm Bobby and today we're taking a look at the Malone foam kayak carrier blocks here at www.etrailer.com. So these are gonna be awesome. Of course, go ahead and start carrying your kayak. So here today, we do have a normal ladder rack system. Now these guys are gonna be 14 inches long to go ahead and do a great job of covering that base of your kayaks, just like you guys are seeing here today.

And we have these large cutouts for our aftermarket ladder rack. So, these are gonna be a little bit bigger than you probably see on normal roof rack system. So that's why they are here today on the ladder rack, but they do a great job of going ahead and getting around here. Now today we do have it on a Thule ladder rack with those big old HD bars on there. You can see it's doing a great job of clamping around.

So, basically what you're seeing is what you're gonna get, right A nice little way of going ahead, giving you some cushion to protect that kayak and your ladder rack. And that way, we can go ahead and really cinch it down and be sure the knowledge that now it's nice and secure, but we're not gonna be damaging either of our accessories. So our foam blocker, here is again, give you that little cushion and go ahead and give us that protection we're looking for. Now we are gonna have that closed cell foam and what that means as you guys can see here today, we're not gonna have any openings for water start penetrating it and water log it, right It's gonna go ahead, stay durable, stay a little bit more dry than we probably would expect on the top of our vehicle, which is great. Especially, if we're loading up those kayaks just getting them out to the lake or the river, wherever we might be.

And that way we don't have it breaking down anytime soon, which is excellent. We all know the damage that water can do to items. So, nice to go ahead and see that this is gonna keep itself from being deteriorated too fast. The block itself is also gonna have this nice little curve coming towards the inside to make sure that our kayak is wanting to rest in here. Now a lot of times you are gonna be flipping your kayak, just like you're seeing here on the other side and having a form in here, but still nice that we have a little way of making sure that it's not shifting too much on our blocks.

And what's really cool about it as well, we're not gonna be adding too much height to our roof rack system here today. We're only adding about two inches at maximum, which is excellent to see. So definitely not gonna be impacting this too much, especially if you compare it to a lot of load stops out there. Probably really not gonna be exceeding that anyways, so. Probably not gonna be too much change for our ladder rack systems at home, which is great to see. Now this foam blocker, you're not gonna get a way of actually securing your kayak. You do need to go ahead and find a way to do that. I highly recommend taking a look at either the etrailer Kayak Tie-Down Kit, which can give you a lot of great straps and a temporary mounting point, or better yet, even just the etrailer Cam Buckle system makes it really easy to go ahead and secure all these on your ladder rack. Really simple. Just go ahead, run your two ends, go over your ladder rack, then back over your kayak and start connecting on the other side to go ahead and make sure it's not shifting there. That way you're nice and secure and your kayak gets there safe. So how do we get them on Well, it's really straightforward. To rock it off, all I have to do is simply do that. To get it on, I like to find that bottom section on that front and then just kinda pull it over like so. That makes it really, really easy to go ahead and secure it. And then when you're done, I like to just kind of push those edges again one more time at the bottom, because it is foam and it will kind of conform in how we need it. And that way it stays nice and secure. I can move it however I need. Well overall guys, I think this is gonna be an excellent way of giving us some protection, both for our kayak and our ladder rack and just making sure, we have a nice secure fit. That way we can start having some fun on the water. Otherwise though guys, I think that about does it for our look here today at the Malone foam kayak carrier blocks at etrailer.com. I'm Bobby, thank you for watching..

Malone Foam Kayak Block for Truck Racks - 14" Long - MPG159

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (233 Customer Reviews)

The Malone Foam Kayak Bocks fit over my Thule TracRac van ladder racks and support my kayaks nicely right side up or upside down. Plastic tie straps could be used to hold the foam blocks in place if driving without kayaks. My only concern is the thin part that goes underneath the ladder racks might crack with repeated installation/removal.

The Malone Foam Kayak Blocks continue to meet my needs after one year.

by:

Fits on a large truck rack like the Elevate and holds the kayak secure when strapped down. Good value for the price vs other kayak holders.

Tends to rollover when sliding a kayak on and is loose without any kayak on it. I take them off when I am driving without a kayak on.

I have a truck bed rack. I was looking for foam blocks to use while transporting my kayaks. I needed something that I could store in my truck and use on the spur of the moment, or if I needed to transport 2 kayaks. I normally use the Malone Seawing kayak cradles, which is an excellent product, but I don't leave them attached to the racks. Most, if not all other foam blocks, will only fit round, rectangular, or aero bars found on car roof racks. These will accommodate the larger truck racks with room to spare.

by:

These foam blocks are exactly what I needed to accommodate our tandem kayak.

by:

The kayak blocks are excellent. I received them sooner than expected. Excellent service and quick delivery.

by:

I purchased the closed cell foam kayak pads from Malone to fit my Trac Rack ladder rack. It was not easy to locate a pad to fit the wide bars of this rack but, searching etrailers website I was able to do just that. The pads are good solid foam that is quite sturdy. On our first trip with them on I couldn't have been happier with their performance, 1,000 miles round trip and the pads didn't move at all. I would recommend these to anyone with wide bars on a rack that needs to carry kayaks.

After a year of use with my Malone kayak pads for my Trac Rack, I must sat they have held up beyond my expectations. For the price I paid I dont fell I could have found a better deal anywhere.

by:

Perfect for me new Thule truck bed rack on my Silverado!

by:

I purchased the Malone foam kayak blocks to use with a Trac Rac pickup bed rack. I carried the kayaks up side down and they did a nice job and fit the bed rack well.

by:

They are what they appear to be. they are pretty solid and help keep things from moving around on the racks

by:

Arrived when and as described. They look like they will work well, and a lot better looking than stupid pool noodles. I plan to zip tie them on or they would blow off when nothing on top of them. Glad I accidentally discovered them on E-T's web site.

by:

Thank you etrailer for supplying me with a way to haul kayaks on top of my tracrac one. I have two 12ft Old Town Kayaks the blocks fit them very very well. They are Malone

by:

Item is perfect just as stated. Etrailer makes it so easy to find what you need at a great price.

Blocks still working great. Protects our kayaks. Great item love them.

by:

These foam pads worked great on my 1000 mile trip down into Baja. I bought 4 pads to secure two ocean kayaks. The pads are mounted on a TracRac TracONE Universal Truck Rack that is on my 2003 Toyota Tundra.

by:

Super heavy duty and gots perfect track rack. Our kayaks go on the rack early spring and stay until the snow flies. We’re avid kayaks and this product replaced cradles that fell apart on us. We travel with our tasks and travel trailer all summer and the Malone foam blocks give us peace of mind.

by:

Fits perfectly on a TracOne!

by:

Very happy these kayak foam blocks fit our truck rails and securely cushion our boats.

Still using the foam blocks for our kayaks. Seem to be holding up well.

by:

Exactly as described and fit the cross bars of my Thule Xsporter pro rack for Kayaks. Perfect.

by:

These were a good fit for the RecTrac ladder rack to add some protection and stability to tie down our Ocean Kayaks. They stay in place well enough on their own that I can slide the kayak across without them falling off.

by:

The blocks work as expected. I have three sets that fit perfectly on my TracRac. Great value item.

by:

I built a cart for my Kayak and needed something for it to sit on. I was going to use PVC pipes as many of the ones I saw on an online video did but wanted something shaped more like the bottom of the kayak for better support. I bought two of them and put them on. they fit well so I bought two more for more support. I have a 14 1/2' kayak. I really like how it turned out. The process for ordering and time for delivery of the products was great. Good company.

by:

Simple foam blocks but well made with quality materials not the knock-off cheap stuff that disintegrates in the sunlight… price is right too!

by:

I am giving the racks a five, although have to say I have not carried anything of substance on them yet. I got primarily to carry two kayaks at same time. But I am happy with how they installed, and how they look and the general apparent integrity of the product. I had a bit of a delay for delivery due to factory, which necessitated the customer service team of eTrailer to hold back the shipment until I was back at my residence. They did an excellent job with this special request, and communication was always prompt and to the point. These racks also sold for about half of the price of what I suspect is their major competition; so that was a major decision point for me. I do not at this time feel I sold myself short by not going with the more expensive brand.

by:

just what I needed.

by:

Found what I needed for my Tacoma, and all fit beautifully. Great customer service on ordering and tracking my shipment. I’ve ordered several times from etrailer, and have NOT been disappointed. Their website is VERY informative, with video reviews and installation steps on everything I’ve bought! Just AWESOME.

by:

Fits perfect on my thule rack, thank you kindly.

  • Kayak Pads For Thule Xsporter Pro Ladder Rack
We have an option for you, but the pads like the Thule ones you mentioned are meant for roof racks, so what you can use instead for your Thule Xsporter Pro Ladder Rack # TH500XT or # TH500XTB is a foam block designed for ladder racks: - Malone Foam Kayak Block for Truck Racks # MPG159 While these aren't exactly the same thing as the pads, they do serve the same purpose, and have a 4" wide x 1-5/8" tall cut out where they go over the bars, which is enough to fit over the 3-1/2" wide x...

Since your 2022 Toyota Tacoma has a smaller bed and you're wanting to carry a longer canoe I encourage you to use a 2-bar roof rack system. The foam block solution part # MPG159 also fits the bars too but the Nautic will give a more secure solution. This also comes with the needed straps to secure the kayak as well. I also attached a review video link for more info as well.

  • Will Malone Kayak Foam Block Fit TracRac G2 Crossbars
Malone doesn't list a maximum crossbar size for the Foam Kayak Block # MPG159 so I went out to our warehouse to actually test fit the block onto a TracRac crossbar, which is indeed larger than standard crossbars. I found that the block fits perfectly with even some room to spare, so there wasn't any issue getting it onto the bar. The foam block simply gets wrapped around the crossbar using the pre-cut gap on the underside. It's simply a matter of manipulating the bottom lip with your...

I see that you got the Malone Foam Block for Kayaks # MPG158 in the past. These blocks are designed to be used with round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. But since you mentioned that the Malone Foam Block for Kayaks # MPG158 are too small for the bars on your Toyota Rav4, then the Malone Foam Kayak Block for Truck Racks # MPG159 would be a good route to go.
