Gunwale Bracket Canoe Carrier

Malone BracketsMalone Bracket front view

The Malone BigFoot Pro holds your canoe hull side up on your roof rack crossbars. These gunwale brackets are lined with foam pads to protect your canoe from scratches and scuffs while loading and during transport. And because the brackets are only 4-1/2" tall, you won't have to lift your canoe much higher than your roof when loading it from the side of your vehicle. This low-profile design also makes it less likely that you'll need to remove the carrier when you park in your garage.

Load Straps and Bow/Stern Tie-Downs

Malone

The carrier includes 2 cam-buckle straps to secure your kayak to the rack. A set of bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayak to the front and back of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have any tie-down points, you can get an anchor kit (sold separately) which will let you create anchor points in the creases of your vehicle's hood and hatch.

Tool-Free, Clamp-On Installation

Malone Brackets installed

The carrier clamps to most crossbars without the need for tools. Simply set the carrier on your crossbars, slide the mounting brackets over the bolts, and secure them with the T-knobs.

The Malone Bigfoot Pro Canoe Roof rack is excellent and is super strong. I have two sets of them now, one for a Malone Aero Bars Car Roof Rack, and one for a Rhino Aero Bars Car Roof Rack (both bought at Etrailer). The quality is first rate, so why the 4 stars? The reason is that the support back of the canoe racks is too high. It only needs to be one inch high which matches the rubber pad. Instead it is 3.75 inches high. Every inch higher than necessary makes it harder to lift the canoe over the backs of the canoe racks. If I could cut them easily I would do it, but it looks like it would be too difficult to cut the metal back down to 1 inch. The Canoe racks are even better using the T-Slot Integration Hardware Kit for Aero Styled CrossBars, MPG915. That kit has 5/8" long (functional length) bolts which fit the Malone Aero Bars Car Rack. For the Rhino Rack, it uses a different kit that has 7/8" long bolts. Using the T Slot allows full use of the entire aero bars.

I bought these brackets for my Ascend H-12 kayak. The kayak transports face-down on Thule roof racks. These high-quality brackets are easy to install/remove and inhibit any side to side slippage while providing a secure tie-down. I highly recommend these brackets for anyone transporting canoes or kayaks on their rooftops.

Using the Malone Bigfoot for a year now with absolutely no complaints!

by:

Nice kit for canoe tie down. Would have preferred ratchet straps to hold the canoe. I changed them out for ones I already had.

Dont use ratchet straps on a canoe. You can, but you risk damaging it. Cam straps are great.

by:

Just excellent. Holds tight. Easy to position and set up.

First off, when I'm looking for something for my car, truck or camper, etrailer is my 1st online stop. Their pricing is highly competitive and their service is tops. Finding and ordering the Malone big foot was no exception. Ordering was a breeze and communication about my order was very prompt. The product itself is perfect. It installed on my Yakima corebars in minutes, fits perfectly and seems to be of the highest quality. I purchased this product for hauling ladders, lumber and any number of long loads that need to be stable.

by:

This is the perfect rack system for safety caring my new canoe!

by:

These are great! Kept our canoe snugly in place driving from New Hampshire to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. Loved this so much we got my in laws a set for Christmas!

by:

It took some measuring and perfecting the layout but my canoe fits perfect on top of my Jeep. The info and description on etrailer was great. Shipped fast and I’m ready to go camping.

by:

Perfect for a canoe - even a wide one with very curved gunnels. I put them on a 58in Malone square bar, but they would fit just about any cross bar I've seen.

by:

well worth the money. canoe is very sturdy. more so than with any foam and straps I've used.

by:

My experience working with your company was first class, as was the product. Your saleslady was very knowledgeable in answering my questions. My order was exactly what I needed, thanks to Mariah. A pleasure compared to the usual off shore representative that is reading from a book, speaks poor English, and knows little about the product you are calling about.

by:

Easy to use and very effective.

by:

getting a vehicle properly equipped to carry canoes is a daunting task.

by:

Worked nicely, easy to install.

by:

They got it here in record time AAA

by:

Great quality and fast delivery. Exactly as described

The Malone SeaWing Kayak Carrier and Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs - Rear Loading - Clamp On, part # MPG113MD, carries kayaks by cradling the hull. Canoes should be carried upside down. Kayak carriers are not designed to conform to the shape of a canoe, so you could damage the hull. The safest way to transport a canoe is on its gunwales. • Can Malone MicroSport Trailer Be Used to Transport 40" Wide Canoe and Kayak
The Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG460G that you referenced is perfect for transporting both your 40" wide canoe and an additional kayak. This trailer can support up to 500 pounds of weight with the integrated crossbars and offers plenty of width for both your watercrafts. To secure the canoe to the crossbars I recommend the Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier # MPG112MD, and for the kayak the Malone J-Pro # MPG117MD will work perfectly. • Malone Roof Rack and Canoe Carrier for Carrying Wide Canoe on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have a perfect solution for you at essentially the same price point but it is not recommended to mount the Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier # MPG112MD on the outside of the feet of the Malone SteelTop Roof Rack - Square Crossbars # MPG202 because this type of set up will not be as stable as the more centered option I recommend. There are canoe carriers you can use that work as loadstops; foam blocks are an option as well but do not offer the same type of security which is why I strongly recommend the Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG112MD. • How to Carry Canoe & Cargo With 2011 Subaru Outback With Factory Roof Rack
While you can haul cargo as well as your canoe with your 2011 Subaru Outback, there's no way to mount a canoe next to a cargo box as the configuration would just be too wide. Crossbars would stick out so much as to be dangerous to anyone walking near your Outback, and there wouldn't be enough support at the ends of the bars.
