Using the Yakima LongArm as a Load Assist Just Like the Rhino-Rack T-Load
Question:
I want to be able to lower the LongArm to waist height, load the front end of my kayak on to it, and raise/tilt the kayak to roof height by just like the RhinoRack RTL002. Ill be loading my kayak by myself. Can the LongArm be used as a tilt-loading rack for kayaks?

The Yakima LongArm with Extender, part # Y01149-1150, can be used as a lift-assist like the Rhino-Rack T-Load, part # RTL002, in theory. However, the setup is not ideal or one I recommend.
The advantages the T-Load has are the loading strap and the two brackets. The strap acts as a cradle when lifting the kayak, both securing it and protecting the kayak from scratching on the rack. The brackets also act as a stabilizer, ensuring the kayak doesn't sway too far to the sides if the kayak begins to shift during loading.
The LongArm does not have either of these features. As I said before, though, it can be done in theory. If you tie one of the included straps to the top tie points on each end and keep it taut, it could replicate the strap of the T-Load. You would then lift in the same manner as shown in the T-Load review video I have linked to. Again, this is not something I recommend doing.
If, however, you decide to do this, I strongly recommend getting the Yakima Crossbar Pad, part # Y07417, to prevent scratching your kayak along the bar. I've linked to a video review of this pad for your consideration.
