Carrying a Canoe While Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2015 Ford F-350 Crew Cab
Question:
Hi. Looking to carry a canoe on my 2015 Ford F 350 Crew cab while towing a 5th wheel camper. What parts would I need other than the front hitch? And which do you recommend the Thule goal post or Yakima Longarm

Expert Reply:
Other than the front mount hitch for your 2015 Ford F-350 such as # 65049 you will also need at least a single roof rack bar and a carrier of some kind to hold the canoe. This would be in addition to a support used in the front mount hitch.
For a single roof rack bar you could save some money and use the Darby Turbo rack # DTA968. It uses a strap that runs through the interior of the vehicle to secure to the roof. Otherwise I recommend a regular roof rack with 2 crossbars for more support and so you can carry things on just the 2 bars when not towing the 5th wheel trailer.
Between the Thule Goal Post and the LongArm # Y01149-1150, I would choose the LongArm because it can tilt down making it easier to load the canoe. It also has an anti-rattle hitch bolt which is something that is needed for these types of carriers. Without an anti-rattle hitch bolt or device there is a lot of movement with these carriers. The Goal Post is no longer available.
For a canoe carrier that will fit all of the bars listed above you can use the Yakima KeelOver # Y04069. It will support the gunwales of the canoe. It also comes with tie-downs.
