Will the hatch of a 5th gen 4runner clear the T loader when it is tilted away from the vehicle?

We do have a load extender that will allow the rear hatch to open on vehicles such as your 2019 Toyota Highlander, and for that I recommend the Yakima LongArm Bed and Roof Load Extender for 2" Hitches # Y01149-1150.

While not a load assist, it is a load extender that will allow the rear hatch of your Highlander to fully open because of how it can be positioned. You can use the Crossbar Pad # Y07417 to cushion your kayak and while it comes with a hitch pin you can lock the LongArm to your hitch with Hitch Lock # Y07235.
