How to Carry a Long Canoe and Tow a Trailer with a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Question:

I have a 2018 2500HD short bed. Am looking for a bed/roof rack system that will allow me to carry a 17foot aluminum canoe, but still use my trailer hitch to pull my travel trailer. Appreciate any suggestions!

In order to haul a 17' long aluminum canoe and tow a trailer with your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, I have two options for you. The first option would be to place part of the canoe on the roof and the other part on a t-load carrier at the rear. For this, I recommend using the Yakima JetStream Crossbars System (Double/Crew Cab Only) which is composed of part # Y00426, part # Y28TR, and part # Y06122 with the Yakima KeelOver Rooftop Canoe Carrier part # Y04069. This will then allow you to secure one side of the canoe but in order to secure the other side you will need a t-load carrier like the Yakima LongArm Bed and Roof Load Extender part # Y01149-1150.

Since you will also be towing a trailer you will need a dual hitch adapter like the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter part # D-192. The Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50% so if the tongue weight of the trailer, the weight of t-load carrier (15 lbs), and around half of the weight of the canoe exceeds more than 50% of the trailer hitches weight capacity then this option will not work for you.

The other option would be to again place a portion of the canoe on the roof using the above but instead of using the t-load carrier at the rear you would need to use it at the front with a front mount trailer hitch like the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C31071. These are going to be the only two ways I see fit for you to haul both your canoe and trailer at the same time. I have attached review videos for you as well.
