Alternative to Ladder Rack for 2014 Toyota Tacoma with BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover Installed

Question:

I currently drive a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport quad cab worth 5 ft bed. Ive installed a BAKFLIP F1 hard folding tonneau cover and I need to haul kayaks. Is there a ladder rack system available that will mount without having to remove my tonneau cover? Can I buy the special rails and uprights for the CS-F1?

None of the ladder racks available for the 2014 Toyota Tacoma will work with a Tonneau cover installed on the bed but I do have a solution for you. Also the ladder rack for the BAKFlip CS will not fit because it is designed to attach to a special rail system which isn't available (unless BAK can offer them) and that is not on the regular F1 tonneau covers like you have.

For the alternative I have in mind to work you would need to have a hitch at the front or rear of the Tacoma. Then you can install one or two roof rack crossbars on the truck cab and use something like the Yakima LongArm # Y01149-1150 in the hitch.

There are different roof rack options depending on if the truck has a naked roof or side rails. I have linked the roof rack main page for your truck so you can select the right configuration to see the available options.

For a rear hitch, if needed, a popular option is Curt hitch # 13323. Or for a front hitch # 65070 is a popular choice.
