Video Transcript for TruRyde Shackle Strap Review

Today in our boat trailer, we're going to be installing the TruRyde shackle strap, 2-3/4 inches long, part number TRSL275. Here's what our shackle strap looks like once it's installed. The 2-3/4 inch measurement will come from the center of the bolt to center of the bolt. The overall length from end-to-end is 4 inches. The whole diameter of the strap is 9/16ths to allow for the 9/16ths shackle bolts, and the width of our strap is 1-1/4 inches. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install it. We'll take the eye of the leaf spring pack, line it up with our attachment point, put our bolt in place. Then I'm just going to go ahead and thread on the nut on the backside, hand-tight at this time.

Next, we'll take the two new leaf spring straps and our new bolt. We'll slide one of the straps onto our bolt, feed our bolt through the attachment point, put our second strap on and again, we'll just go ahead and put our nut on the back side, hand-tight at this time. Next, we'll go ahead and install our third new bolt, and that will be for the leaf spring pack to shackle straps. We'll go ahead and install the nut. Just like that, it's installed, and we're ready to head on down the road. There you have it for the TruRyde axle strap, 2-3/4 inches long, part number TRSL275.

We had a broken balancer on the right side of our 5th wheel. The right side had one shackle wore through and a couple others not in good shape.
We changed out both sides in short order we could ever level the whole works.
The parts were exactly what we wanted and came by post sooner than even expected.
Very happy with the whole process!!!

by:

Shackle Strap fit and works as expected. I'll know more about it durability after running it for a few years.

by:

These worked great! Gave me the extra cleanse needed on my JetSki trailer after I upgraded to 13" wheels.

by:

The most difficult part was tightening the nuts to the point that the head of the shackle bolt was flush against the shackles and hangers. Afterward, I loosened the nuts a little. But, I don't know how much to loosen them.

by:

wow this shackle strap fits and looks awesome on my concession trailer.

my friend ordered springs and hardware for my pontoon trailer. man did they get here fast. everything in one box. packed real good. no damage, nothing lost or left out. I finally got everything back together. fits great. i was worried that the springs where going to be to light, but the trailer sits just like new. sorry no pics. I was to greasy to get the camera out. But its like new again. yes etrailer.com i'm gonna be back next time I need parts. and i've already told all my friends with boats and trailers about etrailer.com . I am a happy customer. thanks again. C Finley

Rebuilt 1990 stratos boat trailer suspension. Now it tows great and rides smooth. Raised the trailer just enough for the slightly bigger new tires.

by:

Excellent service and prices. Needed to replace curved equalizer, shackles and bolts, nylon spring bushings, u-bolts, and wheel bearing seals on my sailboat trailer. etrailer had everything and shipped it fast. Staff at etrailer was excellent!

by:

You guys know customer service!!! I don't think I have ever had as good of service at a brick and mortar store. A rep called me within an hour of placing my order. Just to let me know the springs I ordered would not be in stock for a couple weeks. But that he had a pair of springs slightly heavier that were the same size. They arrived in a week. And all the parts came at one time.
Thanks..

by:

I ordered springs, equilizers, shackles and bolts on Sunday evening and they were delivered on Wednesday. All of the parts were correct as I ordered and fit perfectly. I liked the diagrams on measuring the springs to make sure you order the correct size. I would highly recommend etrailer.com for all your trailer needs. Great service and great parts. Thanks!

by:

Great product, put the trailer together last night. It matched the original perfectly. Noboby seems to carry trailer parts locally anymore. Will definitely be going back when i need other trailer parts.

by:

Excellent product but poor delivery on etrailer's part. Was told out of stock for 1 week. 1 week passed, then the next week passed. I paid for expedited delivery. Delivery took another week after etrailer received the product from the supplier. I was not a happy camper.

by:

I ordered several parts for my travel trailer. Everything was exactly as described. Fast shipping. Great price! Great customer service!!!!

by:

They were pretty good for a light trailer and freshwater boat trailer application. I was expecting them to be a little thicker (more heavy duty).

by:

Best on the market. Let’s be honest everyone you will get is cast so it’s generally the same but the finish is spot on.

by:

Haven't installed the parts yet. However, everything came packed perfectly and professionally. Parts look to be of great quality and shipping was WAY faster than estimated! Will definitely continue to keep buying trailer parts from etrailer!

by:

This was an amazing interaction: the woman who helped me couldn’t have been nicer and got me to the correct parts, they arrived within 36 hrs., and everything fit!
Wow! Just about perfect. Thanks.

by:

Fast service and shipping. I like the tracking map. that's cool. I have ordered from e trailer a number of times. Always happy with product and service.

  • Heavy Duty Shackle Kit with Wet Bolts for Triple Axle Trailer with TREQ356 Equalizers
For an exact equalizer replacement you would want the part # TREQ356 that you referenced. In the shackle length you have now of 2-3/4 inches we only have standard shackles like the part # TRSL275. So for a heavy duty kit that includes wet bolts and bronze bushings the closest and best option would be the part # MR86ZR which comes with 2-1/4 inch shackles. The shorter shackle will only slightly raise the height of your trailer suspension but aside from that would have no affect on it.

  • Availability of Shackle Strap for Trailer Suspension that Has 2-3/4 inches Between Holes

  • 2-3/4 Inch Long Shackle Straps and Wet Suspension Bolts for Trailer Suspension
The eye center to center measurement on the shackles included with Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Kit # K71-358-00 are 3-1/4 inches apart. You would need to piece together a similar kit since there are no options that already have 2-3/4 inch shackle straps. For shackle straps you can use # TRSL275, sold as singles. And for a wet bolt with nut, also sold as singles, you can use # 126B2. The shackle straps aren't the thick kind like in kit # K71-358-00 though.

The Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit - Tandem Axle - Qty 2 # LC696740 will work well with your current shackle straps and won't have a big impact on ride height. The Road Armor equalizer will definitely have a positive impact on your ride quality with the integrated shock absorber however. You can swap out your current shackle straps if desired with the 2-3/4 inch long straps # TRSL275 which are a good way to adjust for slightly taller and wider equalizer replacing your current...

  • The Axles On My Trailer, One Is Up, The Other Is Down, What Should I Do
Ideally, you want both of your axles to be overslung or underslung. After reading your question, it appears you have one of each. An overslung axle has the leaf springs on top of the axle, which the shackles underneath. The underslung axle has the leaf springs underneath the axle and the shackles on top of the axle. If you want to raise the height of your trailer, you want overslung axles. Your axles leaf springs may not match because your trailer's shackles can rotate while your trailer...

  • Should Longer or Shorter Shackle Straps Be Used When Replacement Leaf Spring is Shorter
First, make sure that this spring isn't actually the correct length. If you measured 31" on worn out leaf springs you don't need to change anything outside of replacing the leaf spring itself. If you made the # UG34FR completely flat it would be 32-3/4" long so if it was a little worn a 31" measurement would be easy to get. If your existing leaf springs were 31" when new then it is possible you will need longer shackle straps. Something like the Shackle Strap - 2-3/4" Long # TRSL275 should...

  • Why Would Fifth Wheel Camper Sit Slightly Lower on One Side than Other
We don't recommend using different suspension components on one side of the trailer as this will change how the system performs and could potentially cause sway or other unpredictable behaviors on the highway. Most likely the uneven ride is due to your camper having heavier components on the side that sits lower. This isn't uncommon as typically one side of the trailer will have kitchen and plumbing components and the other may have a larger slide out with furniture. So due to that it's...

  • How To Raise a Trailer Without Flipping Axle
In order to raise a leaf sprung axle without changing the orientation of the axle tube in relation to the leaf spring pack, you really only have one option which is the Tandem Axle Lift Kit part # RR23QX and this provides 2-1/4" of lift unlike the axle over/under kits which provide upwards of 3-4" of lift. Please note, for a single axle trailer application I do recommend using shackle straps like part # TRSL275 on the rear leaf spring hanger in order to allow for proper axle articulation...

In order to find the correct suspension upgrade kit you are going to need to take some measurements. We do not have one that includes the equalizers based on your axle spacing so you will need to get those separately. Starting with your shackles, the shackles are measured from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the other. Just to compare, # TRSL275 you looked at and the # 115052GALV both have an overall length of 4" but the bolt hole measurements are different. Make sure the...

  • 2-1/2 Inch Shackle Straps Are Flipping After Replacing Leaf Springs
Shackle straps can actually flip if they're too short as opposed to being too long, so it makes sense because you mentioned you put on shorter, 2-1/2" shackle straps. Also, if the leaf springs you replaced are shorter than what you had ( leaf springs elongate over time so you likely got ones shorter than what you replaced, as is common), straps can also flip. I recommend going with longer shackle straps, either the Shackle Strap - 2-3/4" Long # TRSL275 or Shackle Strap - 3-1/8" Long # TRSL313.

  • Setting Distance Between Front and Rear Hangers of Trailer Suspension
You will want the equalizer to angle in about 1/2 an inch so you'd need to compensate that by taking one inch off of the distance you mentioned so 27 inched would be correct distance between the hanger bolt centers.

  • Replacement 7-3/4 Equalizer and Hardware for Stock Trailer
I recommend upgrading to our Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizer # K71-655-00. The rubber core minimizes chucking (back-and-forth movement) and helps to absorb road shock. It is a vast improvement over the standard Equalizer # TREQE1. Be sure to check the Bushings # K71-291-00 on your leaf springs as they may need to be replaced as well. These bronze units are designed to last longer than the plastic ones that come with many springs. 2-3/4" Shackle Straps # TRSL275 9/16"x3-5/16" Wet Bolts # 126B2

Thank you for providing that information. What you have is a 6,000 lb Dexter axle. Based on the axle capacity and your leaf spring measurement you can use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e47SR which measures 25-1/8" long. The slight difference in length isn't going to make a difference. For an equalizer replacement you can use the Curved Equalizer for 1-3/4" Wide Double-Eye Springs # TREQE1. This measures 7-3/4" long x 2-7/8" tall. For the rest of the components I highly recommend upgrading...

  • Replacement Shackle Straps For A 4" Long Shackle Strap
Hey Corey, I'm not seeing a shackle strap with those dimensions. Your dimensions do sound suspiciously close to the Shackle Strap # TRSL275, which has 2-3/4" distance from center of the two holes, is 4" long overall, and has a 9/16" bolt hole. I would double check your measurements and if you find it's still the same then you can try reaching out to Dexter or MORryde to see if they might offer them directly.

The correct Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers for a trailer with tandem 4,400 lb axles is part # LC279687. However, you might also want to change out the shackle straps with a longer version to make up the difference. I recommend going with the next size up from the list below. For example, if you have 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" long shackle straps then replace these with 2-3/4" long shackle straps part # TRSL275. It doesn't have to be exact in regards to compensating for the shorter equalizers but...

  • Vintage Trailer Suspension Replacement Recommendations
Going to a higher rated spring will not give you higher rated axles. The axles themselves have their own rating independent of the springs. So going to a higher rated spring would only increase your trailer capacity if they were the weakest link prior to replacement. That being said, your current springs are 28 inches long so you will want to pick out a spring that is slightly shorter than that as springs tend to stretch over time. The part # SP-210275 would be the best candidate as it...
