Jake: Hey guys, Jake here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Dutton-Lainson premium pivoting tongue jack. This jack is going to help you to be able to jack up your trailer to get it onto your vehicle and store in a nice, convenient stored position when you're traveling.Something you're going to notice right away when you see this jack is it's going to have a more aggressive look to it than your standard jack that might come factory on your trailer. It's going to have a nice dark charcoal gray powder coat finish that'll be tough enough to withstand any dents or scratches that might come to it. The wheel is going to be eight inches in diameter, so it's going to be more than tall enough to be able to roll over those larger objects that might be in your yard. As well as it's going to be three inches wide so that when you're rolling your trailer through your yard it's not going to sink down into the grass as easily as those two inch wide wheels. The jack is going to have a 1,500-pound weight capacity and a travel of 12 inches.
The handle itself is going to be long enough to be able to grip onto it and jack up that 1,500 pounds. The handle's going to be a rubberized material so it's going to provide a superior grip in addition to these four grip knobs to be able to fit your fingers in there to crank your trailer up.Now when it comes time to put your jack in the stowed position they have a nice rubberized sleeve over top of the pole handle here. You'll pull out on that knob and then fold it until it clicks into place. When in the stowed position your handle is going to hang down so I would recommend, we have a little strap, just to pull it up into the horizontal position and strap it to the frame of your trailer just so you don't have to worry about it running into anything.Towards the top of the jack is going to be two grease zerks to be able to conveniently grease up the gears that are on the handle on the inside to be able to give you a nice smooth operation when you need to use your jack. This jack is going to be able to be mounted to a three to five inch trailer tongue. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's go ahead and show you how easy it is to get in place.
Whether you're replacing a damaged jack like we have here, or just replacing a old jack, you'll need to remove your old jack first. If you have a swivel jack its most likely going to have a snap ring. So here we have a pair of snap ring pliers, we'll pull that ring off, set that aside, now we can take our jack. Now we can get our new jack in place, take our hardware, thread our bolts through and slide on our brackets. Now we can slide our lock washers on followed by our nuts. Now with everything in place, we can go ahead and tighten down our hardware.
Then you can go ahead and test out your jack to make sure everything's working properly. Once you have everything tightened down, you're ready to load up your trailer and hit the road. With that being said, that's going to do it for our look at the Dutton-Lainson trailer jack.

Corrosion-resistant round swivel jack is perfect for marine use and other trailer applications. The wheel is 3-5/16" wide for greater surface contact, and it turns 360 degrees for easy maneuverability. All-black handle has cushioned grip.Seems like a great Dutton-Lainson jack. The large wheel makes it easy to move over obstacles in the parking lots.
Disappointed the mounting hardware seems a bit flimsy: my brackets bent when I tightened the bolts and I may have to replace them with thick steel bars with spacer holes to be safe. See attached pictures.
It seems like a minor and easy thing to get right and it wouldn't have added almost anything to the cost.
I was expecting better. There’s a lot of slop in the mechanism. I use it on a smooth, flat concrete floor but still have to yank it around to change direction when trying to move the boat. The wheel would rather slide sideways than rotate much of the time. The height travel is also not enough and I had to put a block of wood in to get it to a usable place. Even then sometimes I have to lift up the boat by hand to release it from the hitch because it won’t go low enough. I can’t say I can recommend this one.
This was disappointing out of the box. First, this will not fit on a Magic Tilt aluminum trailer unless mounted sideways. The backing rails, which are properly sized, are five hole, but the face is four, and mounting sideways means bolts won't be flush with top and/or bottom of frame. This is clearly not the way this should be done, half the mount that should be against the frame is against nothing. Secondly, and most disconcerting, are the four carriage bolts that hold the mount swivel are about 1/16" too long, preventing the mount from laying flush against the trailer frame anyway. So I had to make a trip to the hardware store for replacement hardware, disassemble and reassemble with the shorter carriage bolts. Both of these issues just seem frustratingly odd. This replaced a $50 TS jack that salt did in after five years and is no longer made. The D-L has a much smoother motion, but after mounting it has the same amount of play when extended as the cheaper jack.
One last note, this was packed loosely in a large box. Some of the paint was already scuffed off the part that holds the wheel, so I'm not optimistic about the protection this "Tuffplate" finish offers if cardboard can remove it. The bag of hardware was still stapled, but two of the mounting bolts were loose and one of the split washers was just missing. I used a spare nylon locknut on that bolt.
It should not be this hard to find a decent, hassle-free jack at a decent price.
Pics of longer stock bolt beside shorter replacement, potential mounting gap that would cause, and jack mounted sideways on frame.
Strong, Sturdy, Extra Height, lots of compliments. Installed on a Shorelander trailer w/ 242 Yamaha boat. Replaced the inferior OEM jack. Bonus, I was able to install it on the drivers side. The OEM was on the passenger side. That was a pain having to climb over the trailer each time.
The trailer jack appears to be made with high-quality components. Installed it today.
I was looking for a heavy duty wheel jack and something I could easily relube since I put my trailer in the water frequently. I am very satisfied with this jack, it's easy to crank and very sturdy and has 2 zerk fitting to regrease. It is nice to be able to easily lube the screw. Most jacks only have a way to get to the top gear for greasing. I did note the jack mount position places the tongue height a little tall if you have a low vehicle or hitch. Luckily I moved to a truck and now it's works nice. However, would be nice to have ability to adjust height of the jack. I think Fulton is the only one that offers that, but the jack was not heavy duty enough.
It's a quality built jack. This jack is heavy duty. So much better than what my trailer came with. The wide wheel works great on soft ground. Made in USA. Costs a bit more than the China made stuff but worth it if you want quality and reliability.
You definitely get what you pay for. This Jack is built extremely well and works flawlessly.
Great product. The customer service with etrailer is awesome. Very responsive and product shipped out the same day I ordered it!
Good trailer jack. I have it on a bunk pontoon trailer and I needed a high lift so I could get the trailer to ride level and this jack has it. Also the wheel does not spin around when cranking down witch I like also jack has grease ports
We have a single axle trailer for our 19' fishing boat. It works good. We could have probably gone with an even bigger wheeled jack since we have to roll the boat around on the trailer a lot.
Easy installation, great gear reduction, smooth pivot. Just what I was looking for for my sailboat. Thanks!

Its worked great. Continues to easily raise and lower my sailboattrailer. Boat+trailer ~2200 lbs.
Easy to install. Works flawlessly. Nice, strong jack and the wide wheel makes it so much easier to roll back and forth in the garage. Worth every penny!
Great Product, really heavy duty jack with a very nice handle and large wide wheel.
Would purchase again if need another. etrailer.com shipped fast and came undamaged.
Sturdy Strong Product. Delivered as pro mised
Great quality product and definitely feels well built. The wide wheel is much better at not sinking into soft soil the way my last jack did.
I think this trailer jack is the best.
Gr8 help from e trailer, gr8 products. Love you guys.
It broke after about a month of use.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. This jack is meant to work with trailers that have a frame height of 3 - 5 inches. The jack uses a 4 bolt plate to let you mount the jack to the trailer frame. You will want to make sure you are mounting it in a location along the frame where it not interfere with the operation of the trailer. I recommend watching the video that we have on the jack and watching from mark 1:30 to see where we mounted it to the frame.
