Video Transcript for Curt 2 Inch Hitch Ball Review C40034

Today, we are going to be taking a look at the CURT trailer ball. So this trailer ball is a little special. What makes it special Is this right here. You can actually get two inches of rise, just by putting this ball on our ball mount. So our ball mount is a four-inch drop and a two-inch rise. But with this, we're actually kind of swapping it around.

We're going to have a two-inch drop and if we flipped it around, we'll have a four-inch rise. So that's kind of crazy how just one ball can completely change what your ball mounts gonna do for you. So if you liked the ball mount, or you just like, "It gets the job done, why do I need a new one I just need an extra inch or two." This is really going to shine for that. We also have some that are only going to be about an inch. So whatever tickles your fancy, just go ahead and grab whatever size is gonna be right for you.

This one is a two-inch rise, but it's also a two-inch ball. So just look on your coupler, make sure it's the same size. And then also take into consideration, that this thing has a capacity of 6,000 pounds. So with our ball mounts 7,500, and then the ball is 6,000. So the lower number of the two is going to be the max of what we can use with this setup.

So 6,000 pounds for this setup. You wanna make sure that you pair that up. And that's one of the things you need to kind of look for. Also, another thing you need to look for is the hole on your ball mount that you have or the ball mount that you're gonna get it needs to be an inch in diameter because the shank is an inch in diameter. We don't want it any bigger because there'll be so much play.

And then anything smaller, of course, is not really going to fit. So that's two things that you need to look for whenever you kind of pairing this up because this thing by itself isn't going to do anything. You need a ball. We have a lot of different options on our website, so just figure out what you need, figure out exactly what you want, and then etrailer's here to hook you up. There really isn't a whole lot when it comes to trailer balls, this was just super awesome. 'Cause, it has that extra rise there. Made of steel. And if you we're to maybe add something else to the setup, just grab some grease just to keep this ball nice and shiny for all the years of use that you're going to do with it. All in all, this is gonna be a great option for ya. And again, this was the CURT two-inch rise, two-inch trailer ball..

Product as described and customer service was great as always!

by:

This was exactly what I needed and it was shipped very fast. Great service.

by:

exactly as shown. video of the ball answered questions that I had. easy tightening. Some reviews stated that the ball didnt have cuts for tightening for two wrenches one to tighten the other to keep it from turning. I didnt have a problem one lock washer is chinsed down flat your good. Put it in your hitch for a quarter more turn and your good. with 2" drop this allowed it to become zero drop which was my goal . ordered from etrailer before and will if need in the future. live in cali so it took a few days but it was shipped out a couple hours after I ordered it. Now my bassboat trailer is level

Works great leveled out my trailer. Now alls good. Exactly what I needed.

by:

I had a stealth hitch on my previous car, and a custom trailer for the track. I bought a stealth hitch for my new car, but it sits lower. Etrsiler worked at me to combine a high rise snap in to my hitch and a two inch riser ball that brought it up to the previous car height

by:

Appears to be excellent quality. Installed easily and will raise the front of my trailer to level it without modifying my hitch

Is the perfect height to level my trailer. However did seem to start rusting in a short time

by:

I needed to raise my tongue height to make trailer tow level. This looks like it will do the job. Thanks. etrailer was quick and convenient, got the ball 2 days earlier than promised.

Just fine, thanks.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my 4 wheeler to keep the tongue of the trailer from being too low. The price was good and the delivery was quick. The only thing I had to do was to enlarge the hole to fit the one inch shank. Thanks etrailer for having what I needed.

Still working out great a year later. The trailer tongue does not hit the ground when I tow it with my four wheeler.

by:

My popup trailer sits at about neutral to my Tacoma TRD. With a standard hitch it would sit too low/too high depending on orientation. This riser hitch ball is the perfect solution and now my popup is within 3/4" of level to my Tacoma. There are however two bad details about this ball: The design is poor because there is no wrench flat on the body to help tighten the nut. There is no other way than clamping in a vise to tighten the nut. Second, even with a rag, the substandard plating wore off when tightened in the vise. This exposed the copper substrate plating, which will corrode. I had to cover the exposed area with 2 part epoxy to prevent corrosion. I am a huge fan of e-trailer. This product fills my need, but the quality is below average.

by:

Great quality, Excellent chrome plate over copper plate base on the steel. No problem as long as you can access the nut to tighten it. However, in my application the nut is captured in a recess, so you have to turn the ball to tighten it. There are no flats to wrench he ball. Strap wrench just slipped, leather over pipe wrench jaws got two turns before chrome polished the leather and slipped, triple wrap of duct tape got two more turns before tape ripped and adhesive slipped. Gave up and cranked pipe wrench. To cover scratched chrome masked off ball and around base and painted black to match hitch. Looks like it was made that way.

by:

Well, I needed a reciever hitch and 2" ball kinda quick. They had the perfect set up and quality product avaiable and sent it asap. Great service. You gotta try them!

by:

Worked out perfectly. When my truck bed was loaded with heavy
material, could not get trailer tongue wheel completely staight
and locked. Just needed a bit more height, and far cheaper then a whole
new setup !

by:

Chrome finish is poor Works fine

by:

Solved the problem of getting the trailer level and being able to use the dolly wheel on the trailer. The shaft on the dolly wheel was too short and this extended ball took care of the problem. Great product....great solution.

by:

My second 2" rise hitch ball - did just what I needed - eased the tongue weight on my towing vehicles which have a low height relative to the type trailer I have - Thanx etrailer

by:

Haven't had a chance to use it yet however this saved me quite a bit of money. I needed a rise for my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan however I already had a ball mount from a previous vehicle. I flipped that ball mount and used this ball with a 2" rise and was able to get close enough to the hitch height I wanted with no issues.

by:

This product was the only way I could find to pull my trailer level. I wish there were 2" ball mounts made with just 1" or less drop. As is with this product the drop significantly reduces ground clearance compared to the level of the receiver.

by:

I am very excited about this tow ball with its extra height. My trailer now has much less weight on the tow ball which previously tended to lower the back end of my car. Etrailer had my order out the door within hours and the approximately [price] for shipping/handling was very reasonable given the weight of this tow ball. Highly recommended!

by:

Great products, prices and service! Etrailer is hard to beat. Extremely fast turn around, my order was shipped the same day. The selection is very complete. I ordered some 2" hitch balls. Riser balls are hard to find in my area.

by:

Obtained the proper hitch height but you will need an impact wrench and a 1 1/2" socket to tighten the nut. There is no flat on the shank to place a wrench to stop the ball from spinning while tightening. You could use a pipe wrench but that would destroy the chrome finish.

by:

A simple solution to a sometimes tricky problem, the extra rise on the Curt hitch balls will enable you to zero in on getting the trailer level with minimal effort.

by:

Works well to level my boat trailer. Pipe wrench required for mounting as there are no flats on the hitch.

by:

my 2"hitch ball with 2" riser came in about a week very good quality nice heavy chrome it looks great on my custom hitch

by:

I haven’t used it. I bought it just-in-case and never needed it. I can say that I bought a standard chrome ball at the same time which lost its chrome and instantly rusted so I appreciate that this is matte rather than polished. I’m also glad this exists because it was the perfect solution to a problem I thought I might have had… I just ended up not having that problem. If you buy one, but from etrailer. No better site on the internet

by:

Should have looked at more options before buying this type of Hitch Ball. Used it once...I don't trust the long shank...went with a different setup!

by:

Worked as expected

  • How to Increase Height of Hitch Ball by 2-Inches
Thank you for your recent purchase including an extra-long Curt 2-inch ball mount # D-26. This particular ball mount offers a choice of 3/4-inches of rise or 2-inches of drop relative to the hitch receiver opening. If you need an extra-long ball mount with 4-inches of rise to keep your hitched trailer level with the ground then you can use Curt # D-28 which provides a choice of 4-inches of rise or 6-inches of drop. The linked article will help you confirm just how much rise or drop you...

These offer a choice of 1- or 2-inches of rise. Both # C40036 and # C40035 carry a 10K capacity. For 2-inch balls you can use either # C40034 or # C40033 along with bushing # 58184.

  • Replacement Hitch Ball to Increase Ball Height
It is always important to keep your trailer level when hitched to your tow vehicle and the two simplest ways to accomplish this are either a high-rise hitch ball such as the two you reviewed, parts # C40033 and # C40034, or a ball mount with the amount of rise you need. Either option will work. The hitch balls you referenced are shown in the linked photo; I have added the dimension above the mounting surface for each ball. We also have Curt 2-inch ball # C40034 which has a 1-inch diameter shank that is 2-1/8-inches long. This can be used with Reducer Bushing # F-2. If you cannot find a hitch ball that matches your requirements you might just change out your ball mount to one with 2-inches more rise or use an adjustable one.

It sounds as if the Curt # C40034 high rise trailer ball is what you're looking for. This is a 2 inch ball with a 2 inch rise. The Curt # D-28 is a pretty long ball mount, the hitch pin hole to the closest portion of the ball platform is 8-1/4 inches, as shown in the provided diagram. You can measure from the hitch pin hole out to the closest edge of the bumper to see if the D-28 would provide enough clearance.

I went out to our warehouse to measure the height of the Tow Ready Hitch Ball, # 63802, and found that it is 3-1/2 inches tall from the ball mount surface to the top of the ball. This hitch ball has a 1 inch shank diameter. You need to measure the diameter of the shank hole for the hitch ball on your Class I hitch to see if it has a 1 inch or 3/4 inch diameter. If this doesn't provide the height you need we also have the 2" ball available with an additional 1" rise with part # C40033 or an additional 2" rise with # C40034. These rise measurements would be added to the 2-3/4" height mentioned above.
