Video Transcript for Curt Long Shank Two Inch Hitch Ball Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Curt's two-inch hitch ball with the shank measuring three inches long and one inch in diameter. Most ball mounts don't come with a hitch ball and this is because the manufacturer doesn't know what size coupler your trailer has, so you can purchase the appropriate size ball for your trailer. This Curt ball is going to be perfect for your two-inch hitch and will work with any ball mount that has a one inch diameter hole. The extra-long shank on our ball will allow it to work with ball mount platforms up to two inches thick. The ball itself has a 6,000 pound gross towing capacity and that's how much it can pull. Now in selecting a ball you want to make sure that all of your numbers coincide. Your entire tow setup is only going to be as good as its lowest rated component.

So that includes your hitch, your ball mount and your ball. Now we'll show you how to install your ball into your ball mount. So we'll take the lock washer, slide it on the other side, followed by the nut. Now you want to place the ball into a vise and then you can tighten down your nut the rest of the way. Now this does have a pretty high torque. If you've got a decent torque wrench you should be capable of torquing it.

And just tighten it down. You can find your torque specifications on the instructions that come with your ball. Now it is very important that this ball is torqued down properly. If you are unable to torque it to the specifications that it calls for, you can take it to your local shop or hitch dealer and they can typically tighten it down for you. Customers on our website compare this to Brophy's two-inch hitch ball and in most ways these two balls are pretty close to being identical to one another but our Curt is going to have a higher weight capacity of 6,000 pounds versus the Brophy's 5,000.The Brophy does have a zinc plated finish instead of a chrome plated finish found on our Curt but they look about the same and they'll both be resistant against rust. And that completes our look at Curt's two-inch hitch ball with a shank that measures three inches long and one inch in diameter..

I bought this 2" hitch ball because I needed a little bit longer shank for my Toyota Tacoma. The etrailer service was very prompt and shipped in a bomb-proof box.

by:

Ordered a 2 inch ball with 3 inch shank, a class 3 draw bar ball mount with 11 inch depth and a sway bar adapter plate for my existing sway bar. Fits like a glove. Excellent service and the price was fair. Had everything in my hands in less than 2 days. With the longer draw bar I am able to open the tail gate flat and not have it hit the screw jack on the front of the trailer frame. etrailer is the place to go for trailer parts!

by:

Extra nice hitch ball showed up very quickly. It’s a size not available locally except by special order. I saved money and time by ordering from etrailer.com and got a fine product too.

by:

good product but because of the sleeve throught the bumper a flat washer makes it a much better installation as show in photos.

by:

What can you say its a hitch ball, just wish it was a little bit taller between the ball and the hex part that sits on top of bumper, the plastic on a Dodge 1500 is thick and the trailer tongue rides on the plastic,But it works !!

by:

as already stated good product, helpful customer service

Since I have a sway control bar, I needed a to add a control bracket. This necessitated a longer thread on the ball. This product is just what I needed. It fits perfectly and is easy to install.

Still working well. No problems.

LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED.

by:

I could not find anywhere In Juneau a trailer hitch ball with a long shank to fit my bumper. I finally went online and after visiting a half dozen sites found what I needed on etrailer. The ordering was simple, my preferred delivery option using USPS not a problem (UPS and FedEx are prohibitively expensive where I live in Alaska), and the item arrived in a timely manner, well packaged and ready to install. Just what I needed.

by:

I have a 2010 Dodge Ram HEMI 5.7L that had the capability to tow but came with no package. I needed to pull my car so I checked around all the local stores only to find the tow balls had only 2" shanks and my truck needed the 3" variety. After exhausting the local area, I looked online and found etrailer.com had exactly what I needed. Requested 2 day shipping and got it right on time. I was able to pull my car from NC to FL the next day after receiving and installing. This was a great experience!

by:

Had to call this one in to make sure it was right for what I needed (my unique application, not because the description was inadequate). As reliable as ever, knowledgeable and easy to order and get delivered. For trailer related items, these folks are the best. Prices are always among the lowest and they are so good to work with. As many times as I have ordered parts from them, not once has there been any problem. Even when I ordered the wrong part, it was simple to get it returned and replaced.

by:

Wow, I bought a 2007 Ram 1500 PU and could not find the right size 2" ball with a 3" shank anywhere locally in Miami. I was so happy to find e trailer on line and the exact item I needed. Super fast order and delivery and I received exactly what was described and ordered. I will order from e trailer again and tell anybody looking for the right parts to check them out. A++++++ all the way. Thanks again

by:

Great product. Fast delivery. I going to use it to pull a small utility trailer.

Great so far.

by:

I purchased the ball with the longer shank so I could mount a plate for a sway bar ball. The longer shank allowed me to do that and it worked perfectly. The ball is rugged and well made.

by:

Good quality product at a good price. Fast delivery in a well-packaged box. Perfect fit as a bumper hitch on a 2014 Toyota Tacoma, where you need that extra long shank due to the bumper thickness at the mounting point. Thank you!

by:

Very fast delivery, got it today it’s on the bumper ( Ball for trailer hitch) ,right size fits perfectly.

by:

Excellent and very Courteous Customer Service. Got the right Hitch Ball the first time ordered and saved $5.00 by buying it here instead of at my Local Walmart store. You can't do much netter as I see it.

by:

This item worked perfectly with my new hitch setup for my Reese Sway Bar

by:

Needed the extra length to accommodate a plate that holds the anti-sway ball. Exactly what I needed but always be sure you specify the correct spindle diameter. In my case it was 1 inch.

by:

shopping on etrailer is much better then going to the store. I wasted my time going to the store to find out they didn't have what I wanted. I go on etrailer and they have everything I need for less money. I won't shop anywhere else! Nick N.

by:

The hitch ball that I purchased with a 3" diameter satisfied my need in that I couldn't find here in my local stores. I received in great condition. have installed on my pickup and ready to go. Thanks for a good job well done.

by:

Fair price. Very good quality. Quick, efficient shipping. Tracking information provided. Shipping cost lower than I anticipated - very pleased about that.

by:

Fits 2009-14 RAM 1500 bumpers. Tough to find the long length w/1" shank diameter at most sites. eTrailer came through again and was able to add to my order for free shipment.

by:

Product was on time and in great shape, I will be sure to use etrailer.com again.

by:

Just installed it on my new Ram truck for towing my boat. Have not used it as of yet, but, it is a perfect fit for my truck and I am sure it will do the job.

  • Hitch Ball for 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup with Bumper Hitch
It is common for bumper mount hitches to use hitch balls with a 1 inch shank diameter. I recommend confirming that your 2003 Dodge Ram uses a hitch ball with a 1 inch shank. Also, often a longer shank is needed when a hitch ball is used with a bumper hitch. If you find your vehicle needs a hitch ball with a 1 inch diameter shank, I recommend the Curt Hitch Ball with 2 Inch Diameter and Long Shank # C40020. This hitch ball has a 2 inch diameter ball, 1 inch diameter shank, and the shank...

  • Would the Curt Hitch Ball part # C40020 fit a Thick Ball Mount Platform
Sounds like your previous hitch ball has a threaded shank that is too short for your ball mount. The Curt Hitch Ball part # C40020 that you referenced shank length of 3 inches which should be more than enough for whatever ball mount you have, but you might still check to be sure.

  • Availability of 2 Inch Trailer Ball w/ 3 inch Long Shank
The Curt # C40020 2 inch ball has a 3 inch long shank, as well as a 6,000 lb capacity. The ball has a 1 inch diameter shank, and has a much higher capacity than the # 19255 ball you mentioned.

  • Hitch Ball That is 2 Inches with a Shank That Measures 1 Inch Diameter and 2-1/2 Inches Long
We don't currently have a hitch ball that has a 2-1/2 inch long shank but we have a couple that might work for you. The Curt # 40038 is a 2 inch ball with a 1 inch diameter shank that is 2-1/4 inches long. And then the Curt # C40020 is the same except the shank is 3 inches long.

  • Are Ball Mounts with Longer Shanks Recommended For Use with the Reese Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003
The Reese Sway-Control Bracket # RP26003 is 1/2 an inch thick, so you will need to order a ball with a longer shank more than likely. A lot of our customers order balls with longer shanks along with this bracket. Since ball mount platforms can vary in thickness it really just depends on what ball mount you plan on using. This bracket is designed to work on ball mounts with a 1 inch diameter hole, so for a longer 2 inch ball with a 1 inch shank you would want the Curt Hitch Ball part #...

  • 2 Inch Diameter Hitch Ball with Long Shank
We have the Long Shank Hitch Ball, # C40020, that has a 2 inch hitch ball and a 3 inch shank and a towing capacity of 6000 pounds. Another option is the Hidden Hitch Long Shank Ball, # 63849, which has a 3-3/8 inch long shank and 7,500 lb capacity. Finally you could use the Tow Ready Long Shank Hitch Ball, # 19255, that you mentioned. This ball has a 3-3/8 inch shank and 3,500 lb capacity.

For your 2014 Honda Odyssey's Draw-Tite 2 Inch Hitch Receiver # 75270, you'll need to determine your Ball Mount Rise and Drop to ensure smooth towing. Please check out the attached link for more details on how to take these measurements. Once you have this information, you can select the appropriate ball mount for your vehicle. • Will Sway Control Bracket # RP26003 Fit Draw-Tite Adjustable Ball Mount 6580
Yes, the sway control bracket # RP26003 will fit on the ball mount platform of adjustable ball mount # 6580. But the thickness of the platform on the ball mount is 3/4 inches so be sure to get a ball with a long enough shank to properly mount the ball. the combined thickness of the bracket and ball mount platform is 1-1/8 inches. A ball with a 3 inch long shank such as # C40020 is a good option to ensure enough shank sticks down to thread the nut on all the way.

  • Recommended 2 Inch Hitch Ball With 1 Inch Diameter Shank and has a Shank Length of 2-1/2 Inches
The Convert-A-Ball # 901B will meet your tow ball needs. This interchangeable ball has the ability to have a 2 inch ball or 1-7/8 inch ball, the length of the shank is 2-1/2 inches and the diameter of the shank is 1 inch, and has a towing capacity of 10,000lbs. To protect your ball shank when it's not in use I recommend the Convert-a-Ball cover # 005B. If you don't mind a longer shank, 3 inches, the Curt # C40020 would also work. • Recommended Two Inch Hitch Ball To Use With Fastway Aluminum Ball Mount
The ball mount you referenced, part # DTLBM8200, has a hitch ball shank hole that measures 1 inch diameter and the platform measures 1 inch thick. After doing more research I found that the shank on the # SC23-C hitch ball is actually 2-1/8 inches long. The shank is considered a medium length on this hitch ball. A medium shank is considered between 2 and 3 inches. When installing a hitch ball, after the nut and washer have been installed, there should be at least one thread showing below...

  • How Much Can a 2014 Toyota Tacoma Tow with the Bumper
The towing capacity of the bumper on your 2014 Toyota Tacoma assuming you have the cutout will vary from 3,300 - 3,500 lbs depending on options. I advise you to take a look starting at page 228 of your owner's manual to see these options. Therefore, so long as your jon boat does not exceed the above then you will be good to go. If you need a hitch ball, I recommend the Hitch Ball part # C40017 for 1-7/8" or part # C40020 for 2" so long as you have a 1" diameter ball hole. If your jon...
