Video Transcript for Curt 2 Inch Hitch Ball Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at Etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt two inch ball for a ball mount. This is gonna be for a one-inch shank and have a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. Now when choosing a ball to hook up to your trailer and tow, you obviously wanna make sure that you have the same diameter as your coupler and this one's gonna be a two inch ball so it matches up well with our trailer that we're gonna tow today. The trailer's also rated at 5,000 pounds max capacity and this one has a 6,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. So we are totally safe there. And some of your other components that you're gonna wanna make sure match up to the trailer weight is also gonna be your ball mount, the hitch, and also the vehicle.

So check all of those. Make sure that you're not gonna be under the weight that the trailer could be. That way you're gonna stay safe. Now there's plenty of combos that you can come up with as far as your ball mount with a rise and a drop and also the ball because of the different sizes. But just make sure that the shank is gonna be the same.

So this one is a one inch shank. You're gonna wanna check your ball mount to make sure that this tightens down. And also your weight capacities need to play ball with all of the rest of the components. Now keep in mind if you're choosing a separate ball and ball mount combo you are gonna need to torque down the ball. Some of them you can get pre-torqued and that's a nice feature but the ability to get the ball that you want means that you are gonna have to take a torque wrench to this and torque it down pretty heavy.

And a lot of times you can use a bench vice. You see that there's some slats here. You can actually get a large wrench on this or you can put it in a vice. Something that I found that works really well is actually using the hitch of your vehicle and you can put a wrench here and that way your torque wrench is moving in a nice easy way. You're not having to move it this way, it just makes it a little bit easier to get this torqued.

And that's nice too. The reason they don't come pre-torqued onto these is that way you can determine if you need a rise or a drop. So if you do plan on going from the two inch drop that we have here to the three quarter inch rise you are gonna have to take this off and re-torque it down. Now if you need a torque wrench we have those available here at Etrailer. You can generally rent them at an auto parts store. Check the torque setting on the ball. It is relatively high, so make sure you have a torque wrench that can go up that high. Now something else to kind of keep in mind if you're using a ball mount this shank length is definitely perfect for a normal size ball mount. But if you are doing any bumper towing, sometimes you will need that longer shank. So that's something to keep in mind. That way it passes all the way down through your bumper. So this again, for most ball mounts this is gonna work great. So once you've determined the right ball mount and ball combination for your trailer, all that's left to do is get that ball torque down your pin and clip in place and then we can start hooking up our trailer and the remaining components. That was a look at the Curt two inch ball mount with a 6,000 pound capacity and a one inch diameter shank.

Worked like a charm and the team at trailer was very helpful in finding the right solution. Traveled across the country hauling a trailer with my SUV and this fit perfectly.

by:

Just what I needed for the new receiver thank you for the fair shipping

by:

Looks like a good quality tow ball. I'll never be able to tell you though. I cut the shank off to build my own trailer coupler lock for cheaper than a purpose built coupler lock. This ball plus the e98883 coupler pin lock makes my trailers secure in my yard as well as anywhere we go. And by buying enough keyed-alike coupler pin locks, one key fits all trailers unlike previous setups I tried where each coupler lock had its own key.

by:

Fit and finish is as expected. It's new and I can't comment on how the chrome finish will hold up . Threads are clean and the nut goes on smoothly. Chrome lock washer compressed nicely with no chrome flaking.

by:

This pic makes the ball look like it's not chrome,,,, it is actually very shiny chrome and fit my setup great for my 2008 Honda Element SC

by:

These are a great replacement for all our trailers and vans pulling double.

by:

Shipping was on time at great price.

by:

Excellent quality. Exactly what I'd expect from etrailer

by:

Exactly what I expected.

by:

I am very pleased. The guides arrived very quickly -like two days -and were easy to install.
I have ordered everything for my used trailer including spare tire, trailer hitch receiver and the ball mount. The ball mount gave me an 8in rise which is what I needed for my Toyota Tacoma.
Etrailer follows up and does a great job.

by:

Works great, and the low profile keeps it out of the way. The adaptor cable made it plug and play for my 2021 Nissan Frontier.

by:

this product is to large for the hitch. needs 3/4in dia shank.

For the same sized ball with a 3/4 inch diameter shank thats 2-1/8 inches in length, youd want to use # A-82.

by:

Everything still works a year later and quality is holding up.

I am BEYOND impressed with etrailer's customer service. Both at the date of purchase and now reaching out a year later. I’ll never buy anything for a trailer anywhere but etrailer.

by:

Installed this using an impact wrench. No problems.

Holding up well

by:

Towing a 20Ft. Ranger Bass Rig with no issues after 1 year. Strong Hitch and
Ball.

by:

Amazing service- got notification it had shipped a couple hours after I ordered it Crazy good You have set the bar high for your competition!

by:

Items arrived quickly. For those using the Curt C45070 ball mount on a Toyota Sienna (2013), flipped over for rise, there is about 3/4 clearance between the bumper cover and the reinforcement web on the back of the ball mount.

by:

Purchased trailer hitch, ball, and lock pin. Needed a 9 1/4 " drop. etrailer had the parts in stock at competitive prices. ordered on a Sunday arrived Wed noon. Great response time on any items I have ever ordered. I like these folks!

by:

Drawtite trailer hitch was easy, one person install

by:

Too large to fit in the above drawbar

Thank you for your review. The ball mount you ordered, Item # 3605336053, has a ball hole diameter of 3 quarter inch. Whereas, the hitch ball you ordered, Item # C40004, has a shank dimension of 1 inch diameter. The hitch ball you needed is here: Item # C40018.

by:

Once again great products and services are just a call away!!!
The reviews tell you just how everything is going to work for you before you buy.

by:

Bought a number of Items to add a trailer hook up to my 2017 Nissan quest. Jason was very helpful with all the different Items I purchased. i recommend buying from etrailer.

by:

Nice trailer hitch ball. Less than big box store price and name brand rather than nameless.

by:

great product. my new frontier came with a hitch with no ball. this is the 2" ball I was looking for, tightened it to 250 and now I am ready. fast delivery, good quality and great price.

George and the team at etrailer did a fantastic job getting me this hitch ball - in time to take the boat and enjoy the weekend. OUTSTANDING SERVICE!! Nicely done! Thanks. Kurt

  • How to Determine Correct Rise/Drop for Ball Mount on 2022 Honda Palisade Limited
The correct rise/drop for a ball mount on your 2022 Honda Palisade Limited depends on the trailer you will be towing. In order to determine this you will need 2 measurements. The first is the hitch height and the second is the coupler height. It is also worth noting that the rise and drop on the ball mount are measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. The hitch height is the distance from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. For the # C13427 that measurement...

  • What is Needed to Tow Safely With a 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE?
Happy to see that safety is important enough that you'd ask, and the answer is no, you do not need any additional equipment such as engine coolant in order to tow safely with your 2011 Toyota Sienna. Now, that does not necessarily mean something like a transmission cooler is a bad idea, as it will stop your Sienna from working quite so hard, but it is not necessary. What you will need, however, is a hitch, and the Curt # C13105 has a 2" x 2" opening with a max tongue weight of 350 lbs...

  • Hitch Adapter For Carrying Bike Rack & Towing Trailer
We do have an option for you to carry your bike rack while towing your trailer, though the part number you mentioned is not designed or rated for use with trailer towing, just flat towing (trailer towing has higher tongue weights than flat towing). So what you can use instead is a dual ball mount/hitch adapter: - Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver # D210 The # D210 has capacities of 7,500 lbs towing/750 lbs tongue weight so it's more than enough for towing your trailer and...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 17' Travel Trailer With 250 lbs Of Tongue Weight
Yes, you certainly can use a weight distribution hitch with your travel trailer. For a trailer with 250 lbs of tongue weight, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System # FA92-00-0450. This hitch will work well on trailers with a tongue weight up to 450 lbs. The Fastway systems are top quality, and you can expect immediate noticeable results. Not only will it help to level your ride, but it will help to keep the trailer aligned behind the vehicle and prevent sway. This will...

  • Solution for Ball Mount to Move Trailer up Steep Driveway
The best solution would for a ball mount to help you move your trailer up a steel driveway would be one with a good amount of rise. An adjustable ball mount would be the best for this, something like the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount - 5-1/4" Rise, 6-3/4" Drop # C45901. I'm not sure what rise or drop you use now, but this would give you some additional rise and allow you to use the rise or drop you need for normal towing circumstances. For a hitch ball, depending on your trailer's...

  • Are Safety Chains Required When Towing a Trailer or is the Hitch Ball and Trailer Coupler Enough
When towing a trailer, you will always need safety chains or cables as required by law. This is so if the trailer coupler pops off the ball on your step bumper for some reason, it is still connected to the tow vehicle via the safety chains or cables until you can stop and remedy the problem. I recommend getting a couple of 27 inch Long Safety Chains with 11/16 inch Hook, # 2118-605-04. With these chains installed, you will not have to worry about losing your trailer or getting a ticket! If you will be towing a trailer you will also need a trailer wiring harness and ball mount/hitch ball if you do not already have them. Got good news for you! The Curt # C13416 fits all models of the 2022 Toyota RAV4. We confirmed that with Curt, so the hitch will work great for your vehicle. If you'll use the hitch for towing, you'll need a couple few other items. For a trailer wiring harness, use # C56434. For a ball mount, use # 2753 and for a trailer ball, use # C40004 for a 2 inch ball or # C40001 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. • Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2011 Honda Odyssey
I definitely recommend going with a 2 inch receiver, like the etrailer.com # e98862. This will have a higher towing capacity than the 1 1/4 hitches and also gives you more options for accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. Whereas the hitch refers to the vehicle, the 2 inch coupler refers to the trailer. This is a fairly standard size coupler and will utilize a 2 inch ball like # C40004 that would be installed on a ball mount like the Curt # C93KR, which would then be installed...

This American made hitch is rated up to 4,000 pounds towing and 600 pounds of tongue weight and will definitely handle the small trailer you are looking at.
