Video Transcript for Flint Hill Goods Adjustable Ball Mount Review FHG25VR

Hi everyone. Aiden here at the trailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Flint Hill Goods Adjustable Ball Mount. This is gonna be a great way to get a ball mount into our hitch receiver and give us some adjustment if we're not always towing the same trailer. You've got a variety of different positions in both the drop position and the rise position that you can choose from giving you a lot of movement. With this, it doesn't come with its own hitch ball so you will need to pick one of those up separately, get it installed and torque it down to spec.

But without further ado, let's get into it. A couple things to note here. The gross towing capacity is gonna be 5,000 pounds. That's how much you can pull. And then it has a maximum tongue weight, the downward pressure of 500 pounds.

Of course, you do wanna abide by what your vehicle's rated for. Just cuz the ball mount is up to it doesn't mean that your vehicle is and doesn't necessarily mean that the ball that you choose is either. So just go by the lowest rated component in your system. We have ours in the drop position right now with it also in the lowest position, giving us a 10 inch drop. By removing the two pins and clips holding this in place we can remove it, slide it up and down.

You can see all those different holes to choose for of different adjustment points. So up here in the tallest position, it's going to be giving us a five inch drop. We can flip it around to the rise position to get a bit more adjustment. We're using the locking hitch pin from Flint Hill Goods to get it secured into the hitch. Again, this does not come with the ball mount but it is always a good idea to pick up a locking pin separately just to keep everything secure.

To get the most out of the rise position, you could mount it up like this but you would probably want to flip it around. Now again, if you're swapping between this I wouldn't want to be breaking loose and retorquing the ball every time, so for me, I'd probably pick a spot to mount it up and keep it that way. So in this position, you're only getting a little bit of rise but if you do have it flipped around, you can get a maximum of an eight inch rise all the way down to a four inch rise. If you don't want to have to worry about that and you frequently do need to switch from the drop position to the rise position, I'd look into a bit of a nicer ball mount that maybe has a two ball system or one that can move around more easily. I like how much adjustment you get with this ball mount but one thing I don't like is how much noise it makes. And that's kind of the case with a lot of other adjustable ball mounts too. You can see here there's just a lot of points for movement, shake and play and it results in a lot of movement and sound coming from the hitch but also from the actual adjustable ball mount portion here. Some of that can be fixed though using an anti-rattle device on the shank of the ball mount. The etrailer anti-rattle device is a great one because it'll wrap around the ball mount and secure to the hitch and cut down that noise quite a bit. Using something like this will make for a much better towing experience because it does cut down on the noise and that shake quite a bit. And once that's fully installed you can see at the hitch no more movement because there isn't any more shake and play. Now the only movement's gonna be coming from the adjustable portion right here which again isn't ideal, but it isn't too bad. And when you are towing that's just going to reduce all the noise that is coming from this because we've reduced that one spot. A couple measurements you're gonna want to keep in mind with this is the center of the hitch pin hole to this closest point on the gusset, we're just gonna be three and one eighth of an inch. That's gonna let us know if it's gonna fit well in our hitch. And it can also let you know if you've got enough room left over for this anti-rattle device. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of where the ball will mount, it's going to be 12 and a quarter of an inch. So that's gonna let us know where our trailer coupler's gonna sit in relation to our vehicle with this ball mount. And then the diameter of the hole that we can put our ball down through is going to be one inch. (hitch rattling) If you're looking for an adjustable ball mount and you need that then I think that's something that you just kind of learn to live with and are okay with. If you don't need something adjustable like this you can just go to your trailer and your truck and find the right rise or drop that you need and just get them in fixed. Then you can solve the hitch noise problem with that anti-rattle device that goes around the collar and the shank of the ball mount and get all of it secured. Otherwise though, for an adjustable ball mount I think this one is actually surprisingly nice and at the price point it's at it's going to be a really good deal. And that'll do it for our look at this Flint Hill Goods Adjustable Ball Mount. Thanks for watching.

I needed this for my 2016 Kia Sorento, as the hitch is set pretty low to the ground.
The product arrived very quickly and is in perfect condition (no gouges in the paint or other issues). Very satisfied with etrailer as always.

Thanks for checking in.. its still working just fine.

I was very pleased to have found this product at etrailer. I couldn't find one that had this much versatility in my home town. I have a Ram 4x4 truck that sits higher up than a normal truck, and this is exactly what I was looking for. I needed more drop and this one is perfect for my needs. Also, thanks to etrailer for expediting the shipping at no extra cost to me. I now will be able to use this hitch for a variety of trailers without having to switch receivers constantly! Well made and less expensive than ordering from hometown stores.

by:

Didn't come with the hitch pin to secure to the vehicle hitch receiver, which was annoying as I received this right before taking out a camper on a trial run so that was one more stop I had to make at the local store. It did come with both pins to secure the adjustable segment to the stationary segment. Otherwise this was what I expected. Works great, rugged and heavy.

Etrailer website works great! They contact you within minutes to get the product on its way. Customer service is top notch as well. Had my ball mount within three days of placing the order! Excellent quality, just what I needed to tow with my Jeep with 3.5 lift. Will recommend to friends . Thank you

There's a lot of choice for adjustable ball mounts and I bought this one based on price versus the low weight loads I intend to use it on. First impressions are that it's a well made, easy to use, sturdy product. It's only been fitted for 24hrs so I'll report back once it's been used to tow something.

by:

I use this adjustable hitch for both my 2008 4 runner,as well as my 1995 chevrolet G20 van and its perfect!

by:

I am very pleased. The guides arrived very quickly -like two days -and were easy to install.
I have ordered everything for my used trailer including spare tire, trailer hitch receiver and the ball mount. The ball mount gave me an 8in rise which is what I needed for my Toyota Tacoma.
Etrailer follows up and does a great job.

I really like the adaptability of this trailer hitch. I tow multiple height trailers from two different height vehicles and needed something that wouldn't cause me to have to carry several different height hitches. It was slightly lose when I first received it so I ran a couple thin beads of weld on a few spots then ground them down until they fit really snug and now it is extremely solid and I recommend having someone do this if you do buy this hitch. Prior to that it was loud. Its been very durable. Occasional use with a small utility trailer with no more than 1k Lbs total weight but I use it to mostly tow a boat once or twice a week in the summer for about a 30 minute drive each way. The boat/trailer/gear is approximately 3600 lbs with a tongue weight around 200 and I have rarely towed anything much heavier with this receiver and it seems to be holding up well.

I liked this hitch a lot, it worked great for what I needed pulling multiple trailers and not having to carry various hitches. I have however since upgraded to a full size pickup and I will be ordering one with a higher weight capability

by:

This hitch is is very rugged and has a very wide range of vertical adjustment. Just what I needed.

by:

I ordered this to tow a vintage pop up that I had just purchased. The hitch was great because the pop up tongue and the receiver were different heights. Well fast forward a few months and my tow vehicle was totaled and get a different car. Since this is so adjustable it worked perfectly for my new tow vehicle! It is very durable and the pins stay in no matter how bumpy the road.

I am still very pleased with the hitch that I bought!

by:

Well i got it on time. But, the hitch mount didn't come with pin. To attach to trailer hitch.
I ended up spending another $[XX.00] for hitch pin.
But, L part of the receiver had 2 pins. Why wasn't there pin for L bracket to trailer hitch itself.

The manufacturer opted to leave the pin and clip out, and not charge end-users more money, to allow you to choose whatever style hitch pin works best for your application. This ball mount can be used with a standard-style pin and clip # PC3 or a locking hitch pin # e98880.

by:

Excellent fit on my Jeep with three and a half inch lift and 37" tires. I flip it over for storage and no drag when off-roading - doesn't hit the ground on steep dips, etc. I can now tow a trailer with my lifted Jeep and still keep the hitch on the vehicle when not in use.

Ive used the product since the day I got it. I have since purchased a different item. From eTrailer.com As before, the product arrived on time and at a fair price...

by:

I like the ability to have just one hitch for both of my trailers which are different heights. Product is great and service was prompt . I definitely recommend this hitch.

Great. I would buy another if this one went missing. I have a boat and a utility trailer so this works great for both heights. A quick adjustment is all that I need to do.

by:

I use this to tow a Starcraft pop up trailer. I’m towing with a Honda Odyssey and the adjustable height works great to keep the trailer level despite rear shock compression. It’s a solid product.

Still going strong. Works great! Used it to tow a 300 gallon fire fighting cart. It was up to the challenge

by:

It was what I needed. Haven’t use it yet but I’m impressed with the quality of the hitch. One review said the two hitch pins were not included but they were included with mine. I bought two extra hitch pins, needed one and now have an extra. The service was great, they up my delivery to next level free of charge. It was ordered and shipped the same day.

Has worked great for me

by:

This has been a really good hitch. Easy to use, strong, and very versatile. My Colorado p/u is factory lowered and a standard hitch configuration is so low that launching my boat is nearly impossible. (The tongue is low, making the stern of the boat high. So, the back of the boat doesn't get deep enough into the water.) Pulling the boat off of the bunks is nearly impossible. By raising the ball height, the rear of the trailer rotates downward, getting the stern of the boat more into the water. Even at shallow launch ramps, the boat can float itself from the trailer, and I don't have to pull it off of the bunks. For road trailering, I can lower the ball height to lower the trailer tongue and get a proper weight distribution. This hitch has really worked well for me.

If you launch a boat, or recover mobile equipment onto a trailer, being able to securely lower the back of the trailer has a lot of advantages.

by:

This hitch was sent to me very quickly. It arrived two days sooner then I was promised, great service. But more important to me was I had just ordered an almost identical hitch from another source for half the price of this one and it was not near the quality as this one. I guess you "get what you pay for".

The Max Tow Ball Mount does a great job towing my trailer behind my Motor Home.

by:

After lifting my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee I was towing trailers with a 6" drop hitch which met my needs perfectly. Recently I purchased a new enclosed cargo trailer that was much lower to the ground. The 6" drop hitch raised the front of the trailer too much and was wearing grooves into the ball. I debated on flipping the trailer axle brackets or buying a new drop hitch and decided on the drop hitch. It is heavy and built with good quality welds and materials. I did add a few shims between the two adjustable pieces to tightening it up a little (personal preference).

by:

this item was received

by:

Functions as expected at a good price. Had to add spacers to prevent rattling.

by:

I searched long & hard for an adjustable trailer hitch for our Jayco pop-up. Finally found the MaxxTow & etrailer.com had the best price anywhere online. George at etrailer emailed me & put a rush on the order--unsolicited by me--which allowed us to take our vacation on schedule. We also used the hitch for the cheerleaders' float in our hometown parade; the Dad pulling the float had a new truck that was WAY too high for the trailer. The MaxxTow was perfect for this application as well. I'll definitely shop etrailer FIRST anytime I'm looking for trailer or RV products in the future. Thanks George & etrailer!

by:

There are two aspects of buying products; first, the service from the seller, and second the product itself. My first order was shipped promptly, but the box arrived damaged and taped up, with the platform piece missing. I responded to an email and called them the following day and without batting an eye they immediately shipped the replacement part which arrived a few days later. Super impressed by the customer service there. The hitch itself is absolutely perfect for my needs and very well constructed. I like that it can be inserted into the receiver up or down to give a wide range of possible towing heights. This was my first purchase here on etrailer.com, and I will be back!

by:

This hitch has proven to be quite nice..... I have several different trailers and this hitch I have been able to adapt it to each, allowing the trailers to haul close to level for each. Most of the trailer's load is positioned over the trailers tires, making it much easier to haul.......I recommend this hitch if you have several trailers to haul........

by:

This product does an excellent job at a much more reasonable price than many other receivers. This receiver will last through many different trucks thru the years. It can be used now on many different trucks now.
