Video Transcript for Curt Stainless Steel 2 Inch Hitch Ball Review A-82

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt Trailer Ball. When it comes to trailer balls you wanna just make sure that it's the right size for your coupler. So this one's gonna be for a 2" coupler. So you just wanna make sure and check that, and it is gonna have a 3,500 pound capacity. So we also wanna make sure it's gonna be hefty enough for whatever we plan on hauling. And of course we need to pair it up with a correct ball mount.

So when you're looking at ball mounts, one, we wanna make sure that the platform's gonna be anywhere from 3/8" to an 1 1/4" thick because the shank is about 2 1/8" long. So it comes with the nut and the lock washer. So you wanna make sure it can go all the way through. And then of course, with the hole on the inside of our ball mount, we wanna make sure it has a diameter of 3/4". Anything bigger than that, of course it won't fit and anything smaller, we're gonna have a lot of play there, and that's not something that you want with your towing setup.

So just make sure all that kinda lines up. It's made of a steel construction, so it should not rust away over time, but you never know. There's just a lot of friction that happens, almost every single trailer ball that I've seen has a little bit wear after a couple of years of use. So don't expect this not to rust away. If you really wanted to upgrade from this trailer ball, you can get one that's machined out of straight stainless steel, but we do have some other ones that are going to resist against rust and corrosion completely.

That's probably the only thing you could do to upgrade. When it comes to trailer balls there's not really a whole lot to 'em. You just wanna make sure you pair it up with the right ball mount. You wanna make sure it is gonna be rated the same as the ball mount. And of course, it's gonna be rated for whatever you are hauling.

That's pretty much all you really need to know to pick out the right system to haul whatever you're hauling. And that's pretty much it for our look at the Curt 2" Trailer Ball..

This 2" hitch ball is made of quality stainless steel and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. I towed a RangeRunner Runaway camper 1200 miles from Summerfield, Florida to Rochester, New York and the hitch ball was great!

Thank you etrailer!!

by:

Etrailer is my go to store for trailer parts. The curts 2” hitch ball is very high quality machined stainless steel. If your a person that doesn’t like rusty hitch balls than this is a product you will definitely like.

by:

Love the large product selection at etrailer. Bought a (stainless steel) 2" ball, and (5-1/2 inch rise) drawbar for my 1-1/4" hitch. That high rise drawbar is not commonly carried in stock. Both items were in stock at etrailer. Standard delivery was fast, and tracking number was provided. Both items work great on initial checkout. Quality of the products are good, and I don't expect any problems with them in the future.

by:

When installing the ball, the instructions call for a torque of 140 pounds, so you'll need a torque wrench. This is a good, solid product.

Still going strong. Great products and absolutely no complaints

Needed a 1 1/4” hitch for my new Mazda. Only place that had that size was etrailer. Also got a 2” ball and Clevis pin to attach hitch. Everything arrived in perfect shape . Now I can haul my RAZR to cabin. etrailer always come through!.

by:

All three items (hitch ball, extra long ball mount and hitch receiver lock came very quickly, packaged very well and are of high quality and are reasonably priced. The extra long ball mount has solved my problem of having to backup the car into the water. I have looked for it locally to no avail but have found it on etrailer.com.
In short I am very happy with the product and the service.

by:

I have used this product allot since getting it a year ago. I store it in the trunk of my car next to the spare tire when not in use. It has no corrosion at all and works great with several trailers.

by:

Excellent ball hitch. Installed easily and took it for a successful twenty mile test run. Any other trailer needs and I will be back to this site for sure!

  • Coupler on Coleman Pop-Up Trailer is Difficult to Un Hitch on Uneven Terrain
First let's begin with the obvious. Make sure you're using the correct trailer ball for the coupler. The required ball size should be stamped into the metal of the coupler. Secondly, make sure the latching mechanism is not excessively worn and has been lubricated. Finally, how uneven is the ground you're speaking of? In order to latch/unlatch properly, the coupler can't be bound up on the ball.

We offer a 2 inch hitch ball, part # A-82 with a 3/4 inch shank diameter and a 2-1/8 inch long shank. If you were needing the high rise trailer ball, those are no longer available. Your best bet would be to use a ballmount with a larger rise to gain greater height.

  • What Size Hitch Ball Will Fit my 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Bumper Ball Hole
In order to make a proper selection for a hitch ball, you will need to find out what diameter size ball your trailer needs. It should be stamped on the trailer coupler or frame, either 1-7/8 or 2 inch. All bumper ball holes are 3/4 of an inch, so you will need to pick a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter. The ball you were looking at, part # A-82, is a 3/4 inch shank diameter and is a 2 inch diameter ball. If you need a 1-7/8 inch ball, you would use part # A-80. Those are our only stainless...

  • What Size Hitch Ball Fits a 1968 Alpenkreuzer from Holland
In Europe trailers couple to metric balls. The common European ball size is 50mm which is very close to a US 2 inch ball. It is likely that the coupler would fit a US 2 inch ball if it was indeed designed for use with a 50mm. We do have a 50mm ball, # 63912, if you wanted to go that route. The top of the coupler may say what size ball to use but given the age of the classis trailer it may or may not be decipherable. Another option is to replace the coupler with a new one so you know...

All bumper ball holes are 3/4 of an inch, so you will need to pick a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter. The ball you were looking at, part # 63845, is a 1 inch shank diameter so it wouldn't work for you. If you need a 2 inch hitch ball you would want part # A-82. If you need a 1-7/8 inch ball, you would use part # A-80. Those are our only stainless hitch balls with a 3/4 inch shank. Please note that the A-80 has a capacity of 2,000 pounds whereas A-82 has a capacity of 3,500 pounds.

  • Is a 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch Ball a Standard Size for a Hitch Ball
2 inch or 2-5/16 inch diameter balls are pretty standard sized balls, it is not surprising that the coupler on the 1997 Coleman camper accepts either one of those sizes. For a 2 inch ball I would recommend a Hitch Ball with 2 inch Diameter and Medium Shank, part # 19247. If you need a ball mount as well I would recommend a Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, part # 2753.

The ball mount you have, # 3593, requires a ball with a 3/4 inch diameter shank. For a compatible 2 inch ball I usually recommend # 19258. But if you want a ball that isn't going to corrode then # A-82 is an excellent choice because it is stainless steel. Basically if you won't be using the ball much I recommend # 19258 and if you will be using it a lot then I recommend # A-82.
