What Size Hitch Ball Fits a 1968 Alpenkreuzer from Holland
Question:
We bought this camper in Holland while stationed in Germany 1967-1972. Our son now wants to get, recondition and use this ole beauty but we have no idea of what size hitch he needs. Can you give us any info or suggestions on whats the US dimension for this European-size hitch? Thanks for your help.

In Europe trailers couple to metric balls. The common European ball size is 50mm which is very close to a US 2 inch ball. It is likely that the coupler would fit a US 2 inch ball if it was indeed designed for use with a 50mm.
We do have a 50mm ball, # 63912, if you wanted to go that route. The top of the coupler may say what size ball to use but given the age of the classis trailer it may or may not be decipherable.
Another option is to replace the coupler with a new one so you know for sure what size ball to use. I have linked the coupler main page for you. But if you wanted to keep the trailer as original as possible you would just have to try to see if a 2 inch or 50mm fits and go from there.
