Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Pin And Clip Review C21500

What's up, everybody. It's A.J. with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out this 5/8 hitch pin from Curt. So it's gonna be used for towing accessories, just a quick pin and clip to throw in there, to make sure this doesn't go anywhere. Let's check it out. You see I can just pull the clip off there, and remove our pin.

And this is what you're gonna get. It's gonna be great for those hitch-mounted accessories. You see, it just slides right there, on a two-inch by two-inch hitch. That way it stays in place. And it's gonna be good for, if you don't leave your accessories on there all the time, you're not really worried about security all that much, 'cause there are locking hitch pins you can get as well.

So that's if you're gonna keep it in the hitch for a long time, and you just don't wanna worry about it, but this is better for maybe you only use the ball mount every once in a while, you just wanna throw it in there and get started. You're gonna throw it right back in the back of the truck when you're done. Or maybe if you're in a state with stinger laws and you can't leave this on here all the time, you don't wanna leave it locked up, so you just pull that pin and clip, and throw it in the side. The pin and clip are gonna be steel construction, with a zinc finish on there. So that means it's not gonna rust or corrode if you leave it out in the elements.

So that's one less thing to worry about if you do leave your accessory in all the time. So this isn't just for ball mounts either, it's most hitch accessories, if they don't come with their own threaded pin or their own special brand of pin, it's gonna be one of these is what secures it to the hitch. So it doesn't hurt to have one, definitely nice for, like I said, a quick unpin, pull it out, swap out your accessory, or just put your accessory away when you're done with it. Not something you worry about leaving on there and locking up. Well, I think that does it.

Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helps..

Cool to follow up on your product. The multi-ball works as it should. I bought it since I didn't know if the trailer I would get would be 2" or 2 1/4. I tow a 4,000 # trailer/race car with it.

It's a heavy piece to carry around, but I feel that it will last a good many years. I did make a spacer to cram into the receiver, so the hitch doesn't rattle as much.
Otherwise it's great..

by:

As described, but no information on the hole diameter on the website, so the Curt pintle mounting bolts don't fit without drilling.

by:

The products that I purchased was to complete a bigger order that I placed with eTrailer. The No-Drill Mount Bracket - Short 18140 fit as though it was dealer installed. I also purchased the trailer hitch, 4 prong wiring kit and adjustable ball mount from etrailor which installed in about an hour on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler.

Just received my 80307 Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 8" Long. My newly upsized spare tire had been preventing the use of my hitch rack. Was very pleased with the eTrailer service and the ease of using the website. The excellent descriptions, photos, and even videos really help shopping for these types of specialty parts. Shipping went well and expediently. I trial fit the extension with my hitch rack today, and the photos are attached. It fit well and did the trick. I drove around and heard no rattles from it at all.

by:

Fit and finish was very good - every thing worked as advertised

by:

After a year it still looks good. No ru st.

by:

Works exactly as you'd expect a basic hitch pin to work.

by:

Worked as expected!

by:

This pen works well and I use I use it again. Take care.

by:

Items arrived well packaged and everything worked as expected. Installation instructions were very good.

We currently operate over 60 trucks. We purchase all our trailer needs from etrailer. They only sell quality products at fair prices. Their customer service is great! Buying anywhere else will cost you money!!!

I neeed to pull a trailer with my 2019 GMC Yukon. I found Etrailer.com and followed the instructions on determining the drop of the hitch, the instructions were spot on. I hooked up my trailer to my Yukon today, all was level and worked perfectly.

I had driven around to Napa, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart, and nobody had the 9” drop hitch I needed. Came back to Etrailer, bought the 2” ball and pin, and the Curt 9” drop hitch. I received the items quickly.

Great website,

Thanks,

Craig

After a year... so far so good! No rust and holding up well!

by:

Everything that we ordered came in on time and instructions were easy to follow up, have not tried the product yet but I’m sure it’ll all work just fine. And if I need anything in the future I sure will buy from you all again

by:

Cotter pin arrived broken, actually missing a piece so it was definitely broken before shipping. Not impressed.

by:

Really amazing... I would say that this is the best online shopping experienced I have had ever. It was super easy to find on the website the trailer hitch that I needed and associated wiring.
I had ordered the wrong lock and etrailer called me to let me know. They updated the order.
THe product arrived a day early and was SUPER EASY TO INSTALL thanks for the great videos. The trailer hitch was installed in 30 minutes and fit perfectly to my highlander 2008. Really amazing company, service, products and all.
I also never really leave reviews. Here I had too cause it was all so great.

It looks fine to me.

Air lift installed on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JKU with a 4” lift. Alison B put wanted to make sure I got the right bags and put me in touch with Air Lift who helped me get the correct bags. It was easier and quicker to remove rear springs and install the bags, just remember to apply lubricant to help with installation. Alison B was great to work with and extremely helpful in making sure I got the right parts. I have done business with etrailer in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

I benefited greatly from the information at etrailer.com when outfitting my new Honda Pilot with a trailer hitch, wire harness, hitch, and ball.
Everything was high quality, the video instructions for installation were perfect.
I saved just over $1000 compared to what the new car dealer would have charged me to install the same items.

Youre a great company at etrailer.com George. Super website. The Curt branded products I bought from you are great after one year.

by:

As expected, it is a Hitch pin. Good to have a spare at a reasonable price.

by:

The products (ball mount; hitch pin; spring) i received from etrailer.com are Curt branded. For me that means a first class hitch, accessories and great service from etrailer.com. eTrailer.com had the best total cost for the items I wanted. There C/S was outstanding.

  • Trailer Hitch Pin for 2 Inch Receiver on Class III Trailer Hitch
There are a number of trailer hitch pins that will work with a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver, and I recommend the simple Pin and Clip For Class III, IV and V Trailer Hitch Receiver # C21500.

  • What is the Max Weight Rating of a Class V Hitch Pin
Hitch pin and clips like the Curt # C21500 that you referenced don't actually have weight ratings. They are able to withstand the weight ratings of the hitch class they are designed to fit. Since this fits up to Class V trailer hitch receivers it can safely be used with a Class V hitch as long as you don't exceed the weight ratings of that trailer hitch. The tongue weight on the ball mount is what keeps the pin from bearing all of the weight.

  • Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch Pins
Trailer Hitch Pins like the Curt # C21500 do not have specific weight ratings and there is not a database available that will have this type of information. Generally speaking, a 5/8 inch diameter pin, which is designed for Class III, IV and V trailer hitches, will have a rating that exceeds what a Class V hitch will be able to handle. A 1/2 inch diameter pin for Class I and II trailer hitches will typically have a capacity of up to 3,500 pounds.

  • CURT Trailer Hitch Pin Capacity and Pintle Hitch Ball Recommendation
The CURT Hitch Pin, # C21500, does not have an official capacity because it far exceeds the ability of most anything it can be placed in. A believe I have found the perfect ball for you. Take a look at Pintle Hitch Ball, # 63019. It has a 2-5/16 inch diameter with a 1-1/4 inch threaded shank. It has a capacity of 14,000 pounds. This is the highest capacity ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank. It may be too close for comfort if you are towing exactly 14,000 pounds. If at all possible, reduce...

  • Difference Between Curt Hitch Pins # C21500 and # C21504
The difference between the two pin and clips is the length. The part # C21500 has a useable span of 3-3/16 inches and the part # C21504 has a useable span of 2-3/4 inches.

  • Do Trailer Hitch Pins Bare Weight of Trailer When Towing
A hitch pin used as a recovery point would not have the same weight capacity as the hitch of the truck when used for towing. This is due to fact that towing a vehicle would have much less resistance than moving a stuck vehicle and also there's no ball mount involved. So when towing the tongue weight of the trailer pushes down on the ball mount which pins it against the hitch tube creating a enough friction that the trailer is towed from that and now the hitch pin. So without the ball mount...

  • Can a Padlock be Placed on the End of Standard Trailer Hitch Pin # C21500
The hole in the hitch pin # C21500 or any other standard hitch pin with clip is not large enough for a useful padlock. It would take a very small lock that could be defeated easily. That is why for a more secure option we carry locking hitch pins. The most popular locking hitch pin for a 2 inch trailer hitch (5/8 inch diameter) is # e98880. I have included a link to a video review of this locking hitch pin for you to view. I have also included a link to the other locking hitch pins we...

  • Recommended Hitch Pin for Trailer Hitch on 2013 Fiat 500
Since there is not much space around the hitch pin hole for a standard elbow style pin like # C21500, I recommend looking at a straight, locking hitch pin like our etrailer.com # e98879. This is a straight hitch pin that will also be an upgrade over your existing unit because of its locking capability. Its chrome plating will resist rust and the covered key slot will prevent internal corrosion. This is compatible with the 1-1/4 inch receiver on your 2013 Fiat and should work great to resolve...

We aren't manufacturers of those parts, and we don't have the testing ability in house, so I reached out to a couple of our manufacturers to see what information they could provide to try and help. I reached out to my contact at Curt regarding the pin and clip # C21500 and he said they haven't ever needed to test the sheer strength of a pin because the hitches and ball mounts will fail before the pin does every single time. They are rated for 6 figures easily. He gave an example of a...

The 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs # C18153 does not come with a hitch pin. You can use the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span # 63232 which is my recommendation or a regular hitch pin and clip like # C21500. • How To Choose the Correct Ball Mount for a 2018 VW Atlas

Then, measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer while level. The difference between these two measurements is the amount of rise/drop you need to look for in a ball mount. Many hitch-mount accessory items like your Twiststep (and many bike racks, for example) have the flexibility to be used with either size hitch receiver. When determining the amount of rise or drop you will need on the ball mount for your towing setup, you just need to take a couple simple measurements. That's a good question because they didn't do a very good job of explaining that; what they are referring to is the bottom of the ball platform, since that is where the bottom of the coupler will be. And since the top of your hitch measures 17-3/8 inches, the best option is going to be a ball mount with no rise or drop, which is the Buyers Produts Tri-Ball mount you mentioned: - Buyers Products Tri-Ball Hitch - Tubular Shank with Chrome Balls # 3371802207 This has three hitch balls, including...
