Video Transcript for Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin Review

Hey there haulers. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Master Lock's pivot lock hitch pin for two-inch hitches. It's available in chrome or stainless like you see here. When working with accessories for your two-inch hitch, one thing you're always going to need is a pin and clip. Now Master Lock has made this much simpler with this new design. Rather than having to fumble around and find your clip, which as always seems to be missing, or once you get it through there, having to line up with a small pinhole to get it in place, Master Lock has incorporated the clip design into their pin here so that it couldn't be simpler.Simply line up your accessory hole with your hitch hole.

And once you get this pushed through, you can pull out on the tab and drop it down into place and now it's not going anywhere. It's effectively a built in clip, so you don't have to worry about ever losing it. Spring loaded design makes it easy to rotate down into place. You can rotate it either up or down, depending on any clearance issues you may have. And when you're ready to remove your accessory, it's just as easy.

Lift up into position and slide out. And then you can see here that it is a 5/8 diameter hitch pin so it's going to work great with your Class III and Class IV accessories. It's got three inch usable span here, so it's going to fit all of those hitches as well. We've got our ball mount here today, but it's also going to work out great for your bike racks, cargo carriers, or anything else that you can throw at your two-inch hitch. And that completes our look at Master Lock's pivot lock pin for two inch hitches..

The Master Lock Pivot Hitch Pin is an excellent product. Its a breeze to use and its secure. Plus there are no clips to lose and the design saves scrapping my knuckles which I always seemed to do with hitch pins that use clips.

by:

I use this pin when I pull my boat or motorcycle trailer, and put it away until needed. I use a regular hitch pin for my bump step, or pulling hitch.
It makes things a lot easier, not fighting the rusted pin.

by:

Absolutely love it easy and reliable

by:

Easy to insert and to retract, never a bent or lost cotter pin in mud or snow.

by:

They are much easier to use than the regular hitch pins.

by:

I never intended to use this regularly. I wanted something slim and compact that I could keep as a back up. With the cost of hitches I use a lock locking one to keep on when I park. Otherwise you’ll see your stuff at the pawn shop.

by:

If you don't need a locking pin this is the best option in my opinion. Quick, easy and corrosion free.

by:

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY, PRICE AND FAST SHIPPING, BEST PLACE FOR ALL YOUR TRAILER NEEDS.

by:

Came fast and fit was perfect. TY

by:

Easy to use and you don't have to worry about the hitch clip. All in one.

by:

I've had one of these for years. Great, simple & easy way to lock the drawbar to the hitch. Much easier than a pin & clip. I picked up another for this install because I loved it.

by:

Saves a lot of time and effort versus the basic pin.

by:

I like these much better that the clip style pins that the clip can fall out as it ages and looses its tension.
HOWEVER I now have a 3" receiver on my Super Duty truck that this is to short for. Master makes a Locking pin that is long enough so that is what I'm using for now. Would be nice to have this type for normal use to prevent using key so often.

by:

SO much better than pulling a rusty pin. Love this

by:

These pins are great! I love to use them when I want to put in my receiver for something quick. Nothing to loose. Everything is in one place. Stainless Steel, too! What more could you ask for? I have several of these around to use whenever I need one. Only use a locking pin on long hauls where I can't keep an eye out for theft, otherwise I would use this pin 100%.

by:

Great hitch pin and doesn't rust being stainless. Easy to use and I really like the pivot locking feature. I have two since they work so well and that way I don't have to keep finding which vehicle I last used them on! I occasionally spray some lubricant on the pivot head so the grooves and functioning of the pivot head doesn't clog up from dirt, mud and snow.

by:

Perfect pin… even the blue anodized knob is like new .., no fading!

by:

Quick delivery

by:

Excellent quality, works like a charm. Might be nice if there was a .5" diameter available for class 1.25" hitches that have a 1/2" diameter hole.

by:

The absolute best part of this product is the installation video. It is the difference between feeling like you can do it yourself versus needing to take it to a shop.
There are a number of tricky installation aspects that are no longer tricky when you learn about them in advance by watching the video, which is very thorough.
In the end, my hitch turned out great, and it works very well for my intended purpose (bike rack). It's awesome to have it hidden behind my license plate because I think exposed receiver hitches hanging low on cars (especially a Volt) look like a compromise compared to how they look on an SUV.
Thanks for making a great product along with a great video.

The staff at etrailer made my buying experience nothing short unforgettable...they are prompt on receiving your order and processing it in a timely fashion. In my case I was confused on what it was I exactly needed; they emailed me a number of options that would accommodate my needs with budget and price range in mind. This is the second time I have purchased from etrailer and they made me feel like family; they can count on me being a long term customer from here on out! And last but not least the product speaks for itself. Towing a trailer from state to state can make you a sceptic of your equipments endurance and toughness; I know my hitch and components are one less thing I need to worry about...

by:

What a dandy little pin. I recently bought a cargo hitch carrier from etrailer.com and stretching over the carrier to put the little hairpin clip into the hitch pin was causing me some grief. I found this pin and ordered it in stainless and chrome. I can engage it one-handed without having to crawl around under the bumper to find the hairpin clip, which I'm prone to do. Both of these are really high quality pins and the folks at etrailer.com are really hands-on kinda helpful. I'd have bought from them even if they weren't the cheapest online...but they were anyway.

by:

Speeds up and simplifies attaching the ball to the hitch. No pins to lose and its tight when locked. Highly recommended if you change hitch balls often or switch between a ball and a bike rack frequently.

by:

These hitch pins are awesome! No fumbling with loose parts and stainless means it's always in great shape.

by:

This is a great design. Sure beats trying to get the hairpin cotter pin in/out/lined up for the old one I lost!

The metal piece you are talking about on the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin # ML1465DAT has no structural significance and is there only to help secure the pin to the packaging. You can go ahead and remove it so that it is out of the way!

  • What Material are Hitch Pins Made of?
A 5/8" diameter hitch pin is usually made of steel, though some have coatings applied to help resist corrosion. For example, the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitches # ML1465DAT is made of stainless steel, but there is also a version - the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitches # ML1495DAT - which is a chrome-plated steel hitch pin with a chrome-plated aluminum barrel.

  • Recommended Easy to Use Hitch Pin For 2 Inch Receiver
We have a really cool solution for you, but you should not use a round linchpin as they are not designed for use with a standard 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. So you'll want to go with a standard hitch pin, and we do have an option for one that is super simple to use and doesn't have an R-clip like the Curt Pin & Clip # C21510, for example. In fact, it doesn't use a clip at all, and the part I'm referring to is from Master Lock, and it's called a Pivot Lock, which is available in either...

If you're having clearance issues with the Kuat Pivot PV20B your best bet is to use the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers # D210. This will give you about 4 extra inches of height from your current receiver and the receiver has a 350 lb tongue weight whereas most adapters will reduce the tongue weight of your hitch by 50 percent. You will need pin and clip # ML1465DAT to keep the mount in your receiver.

You can use a hitch extender with the Gen-Y Ball Mount # GY59VR, just keep in mind an extender will reduce the capacity of your trailer hitch receiver by 50 percent. So for example if your hitch had a 5,000 lb towing and 500 lb tongue weight capacity it would be limited to 2,500 lbs towing and 250 lbs of tongue weight with an extender.
