Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the five eighths inch diameter hitch pin. This is going to be a very sturdy, steel construction pin. It's got a chrome plating finish to resist any rust or corrosion, so it's going to do a good job, hold up well for you. It is designed for your class three hitches.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a hitch pin does, it's going to hold your hitch mounted accessories into your hitch. If you we're not to have a pin, your hitch mounted accessories could wiggle themselves out, become disconnected from your vehicle while you're using them. That's where a hitch pin comes in. It's going to slide into the hitch pin hole. It's going to ensure that your hitch mounted accessories stay in.One thing I will note is this does not come with a clip to keep it in place, so if you just use this, it's possible that it could wiggle itself out, so I would recommend a clip.

That's just going to make sure that there's a stopping point so that this does not continue to come out, and you're back to where you started with.I do want to give you a few measurements to make sure that this is going to work for your setup. Our total overall length, of course this is a five eighth inch diameter, but our total overall length we're looking at right about, I'd call it five and a quarter of an inch, but our usable length is quite a bit different, because you can see this curve here. Obviously that's not going to continue on into our hitch. It's going to stop where our hitch is vertical, and then we want to make sure that we leave enough room to get our clip in that hole there, so from the start of our curve to the start of the eye hole, it's right about three and an eighth of an inch.

Might be closer to three and a quarter of an inch depending on your hitch. Different hitches have different accommodations, so you want to make sure that you are getting one that is going to work for yours. I would feel safe in calling it three and a quarter of an inch minimum.That's pretty much all there is to this. It's a very simple device, but it's going to make sure that all your hitch mounted accessories stay with your hitch. That's going to complete our look at the five eighths inch hitch pin.
