Double-Duty Corrosion Resistance

A close-up view of the etrailer ball mount inserted in the hitch receiver

Most ball mounts have just 1 layer of paint or powder coat to protect them from the outside world. Scratch this away after towing just a couple times, and the raw metal underneath will start to rust before you know it. Some folks take pride in that rusty, worn-in look. After all, rust is proof that you've had plenty of road-worn adventures.

But we prefer something that works hard and looks like it's barely broken a sweat. That's why we added a layer of e-coat underneath the matte black powder coat to give you an extra layer of rust protection. So while others might be driving around with a flaking, rusted-out hitch, yours will be looking great for the long haul.

Quick Tip: As for the hitch ball itself, if you really want to make sure that black nickel stays looking fresh for longer, we suggest greasing it up before you tow.

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Pre Torqued Ball Mount - e87DR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this etrailer pre-torqued ball mount with the two-inch ball. It's for a two-inch hitch receiver. And if you notice, this one has the six-inch drop. And if it's flipped over, a four and 3/4 inch rise. Now, this does have a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity.

Now, this is a heavy duty ball mount. This will provide everything you need to embark on your towing journey with confidence. This ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. Basically, the shank right here will slide into your vehicle's two-inch hitch receiver. And if you notice, they do include the 5/8 inch diameter pin and the clip, which is designed to fit tightly right here in the hitch pinhole and helps minimize rattle when you install this to your hitch receiver.

Now this ball mount, as we mentioned, offers a six inch drop or a 4-3/4 inch rise, and those measurements are measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. So if we measure the drop, like we said, put a ruler on it, you'll be able to see there's your six inch, oops, six inch drop. And then if we flip it around, you can see there's your 4-3/4 inch rise. Now the ball, this is a two-inch diameter hitch ball that's pre-torqued on here, provides the connection point for the trailer's coupler. And as we mentioned, the ball is pre-torqued to factory specs in the drop position.

This is a sturdy steel, has a nice rust-resistant finish. The ball mount itself right here has a nice matte black powder coat over an e-coat on the ball mount. If you look at the ball, it has a nice black nickel-plated hitch ball. And if you notice, the pin and the clip that they include is a matching black nickel finish on that too. Application again fits two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver.

Gross towing weight capacity is 7,500 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 750 pounds. Ball diameter again two inches and it is stamped up on the top here. Last thing I'm gonna give you is the ball mount length. And when you measure the length of a ball mount, it's measured from the center of the hitch pinhole to the center of the ball. So on this one, we can line it up here, it's about the center, you can see it goes right to eight inches from the center to center. But that should do it for the review on this etrailer pre-torqued ball mount with the two-inch ball for a two-inch hitch receiver.

  • Comparing Etrailer 6" Drop Ball Mount To Curt 6" Drop Ball Mount For Lifted Truck
I agree that 6" of drop will likely be good for your truck with a 6" lift, but to verify you can take some measurements as seen in the attached photo. The etrailer Ball Mount # e87DR and the Curt # C45064 both have the same specs of 6" drop, 7,500lb weight rating, pre-torqued 2" ball, and include pin and clip. That said, I prefer the etrailer mount since it comes with a corrosion-resistant black nickel coating on the ball and pin, which holds up to salt and elements better than the chrome...
