Video Transcript for Reese Hitch Ball 58117 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number 58117. This is the Reese white grease hitch ball lubricant. This lube is going to get applied to your hitch ball. It's going to reduce the amount of friction between the hitch ball and the socket of your coupler. It's going to help extend the life of your hitch ball and make connecting and disconnecting much easier. The lube is going to be a non-toxic white grease that's designed so it won't break down.

It's also water resistant. It's going to come packaged in a four ounce container. By having the hitch ball lubricated, it can help keep your locking mechanism on your coupler working smoothly and properly, which is also going to prevent corrosion and it can also help quiet the connection. That's going to do it for today's review of Part Number 58117. This is the Reese white grease hitch ball lubricant. .

This product works well but I don't have any other grease hitch ball lube to compare it to so I have no idea whether it is the best or not.

by:

As expected, this Reese hitch lube works very well to protect both sides of the connection. Used this before, and came back for more. I like it much better than bearing grease, which is what I used to use. I apply it on the ball and lubed areas of my load levelers on very large and regular sized trailers.
Certainly recommend.

Its ball lube... Certainly works better than bearing grease.

by:

I got exactly what I purchased...Thanks

by:

Have used this product for a very long time, with excellent results. Lubication is a wonderful thing! I learned the hard way a long time ago when my trailer hitch ball was stuck. Had a hard time freeing up. Never used a lube before and this product is specific to hitch balls. No more problems. The price is the best here at etrailer.com. A jar will last many years.

Great, good stuff, specific to trailer bail

by:

Reese White Grease Hitch Ball Lube is a good water resistant grease for all hitches. It will extend the life of your hitch by preventing binding, rusting, and galling. I always wipe the ball and hitch clean when I am done towing.

Still using the lube and it does a terrific job protecting the ball and hitch.

I brought this item to use on my Jet skis trailer,It was recommended by so many people ,Having used it on my trailer hitch I'm very pleased how it puts a nice coating and protects against friction ,its early days but i believe this will be a long lasting protection crease

Very well.Really is a good product

by:

Our sales rep, Nicole R. was absolutely fantastic!

by:

Not much to say about grease. It is greasy. I've applied it about 3 times in the last year. I tow a 3k lb trailer about 2-3 times a month. Probably wipe more off putting the ball cover on and off than using it up but I'm happy with its performance.

Ive probably used about a third of the jar so far, it really goes a long way.

by:

I looked everywhere for this product - so had to order on line.
ETrailer had the best price. This is the best lube for my ball hitch on my horse trailer. So glad I found it again. Thanks.

I do not ever want to be without it! Will order from you again when I run out. Many thanks.

Great company to deal with, fast shipping! Thank you, Jamie

by:

I own a 31ft Cabin Cruiser boat that weighs around 10,000lbs and the trailer itself weighs over 2000lbs. Every time I would pull the boat out of the water the back of my truck would squat a little and the trailer jack would occasionally scrape the ground. So I purchased this Hitch Ball and mounted it upside down so that the ball is higher than the bumper of the truck and now the trailer is level when cruising down the interstate fully loaded.

This Hitch ball is very heavy and completlely solid! I dont hear any noises coming from the hitch at all.

Etrailer had the best price around and will always contine shopping with them anytime I need any trailer parts

by:

This little jar of "stuff" has saved me many headaches when unhitching my travel trailer from the tow vehicle. Before I bought this I would have a tough time sometimes getting the hitch off the ball and also difficulty getting it back on. This lubricant makes it so easy to hitch up and unhitch. The only word of warning is to watch out for the hitch ball with your pant legs because it will leave a major grease stain on your pants if you rub against the ball. Its white going on but it turns black from friction I guess. It lasts a very long time too because you only need a very little bit each time.

by:

All items received quickly. All items fit and work actually better than I though they might! The 2-5/16 ball cover is not too tight but stays put. The ball lube is thick and stays put, as well. Hard to find both of these items locally. Thank you etrailer...again!

Still pleased with performance of both products. Both are currently in service today.

I have been using Reese Hitch grease for about 15 years. I have had very little wear or gaulding on any of the hitch balls or sway balls I have used it on. It is expensive grease but I like it better than colored grease that gets all over everything. At least if this gets on you, wipe it off and it does not show.

by:

I did a search to figure out why my RV camper was not unhitching easily from the towing ball. Honestly, this was such a problem that we could not figure out and were weary of jumping on the hitch and trying to jiggle the ball to break free. What I liked so much about your company was that your company suggested possible reasons that the ball was sticking and offered several solutions. I realized that I was unhitching on uneven ground and that a lube might help. The lube worked exactly as you said. A very inexpensive solution plus we knew why it was happening and could reposition the camper. Product arrived quickly and customer service attentive. Good job!!

by:

Product worked well. I used it this weekend to hitch/unhitch my travel trailer to my truck and even though the ball didn't slide out as easy as I'd hoped, it took less rocking back and forth than without the lube. I was told that these types of lubricants can collect a lot of dirt and make the situation worse, but I am willing to test that theory out myself.

by:

The ease of making this purchase and to track to destination was as good as it gets for on-line shopping.

excellent, will reorder again

I had no idea you should use greese on your hitch ball. My hitch was so bad I could not get the hitch to engage. After using the White Hitch Ball Lube hooking up was a breeze. I would highly recommend this product.

by:

Product worked just as it should: lubricates my ball joints, hitch and towing ball keeping them working as they should. Great price and very fast delivery.

by:

Great stuff. Keeps my hitch silent as a country night and has stopped any wear and tear on ball. A must have for any RVer.

Best buy Ive made in a while. Keeps things moving like a duck through water. It doesnt take much and the jar has lasted a year and still is 23 full.

by:

This is a must for towing, and less friction is always good, I use a B&W Tri Ball. It keeps the crome nice on an expensive hitch. then keep it covered with a hitch ball cover and no greasy mess.

by:

Never have had a problem with the receiver since I've been using this grease. Hard to find locally. One catch on the shipping though the cover had come off but luckily it only gunked up the plastic bag containing other item in box.

by:

Good product, I first used it on a new hitch ball that I used to pull a 26' covered car hauler with for 600 miles. When I arrived at my destination I took a rag and cleaned off the hitch ball and found that I couldn't hardly tell that it had been used.

by:

Works great. No longer hear that annoying noise from the hitch ball and the coupler. And you would think this would be easy to find in a store...it's not. None of the big box retailers or auto parts stores carry it. I ordered it from etrailer and got it within a few days.

  • Best Gooseneck Ball and Safety Chain Attachments For a 2022 Ford F-350 With Factory Prep/Puck System
The B&W Ball and Safety Chain Kit # BWGNXA2061 has a handle that secures the ball in the factory mounting points on your 2022 Ford F-350. This will allow you to install and remove the gooseneck ball without having to use gloves since it will have Hitch Ball Lube # 58117 on it. The kit includes safety chain connection points and a hard plastic case that will keep the grease from getting on other parts inside your truck when not needed.

  • What Would Cause the Top of a Trailer Hitch Ball to Wear Excessively After 300 Miles
If the ball is smaller than what the coupler requires then the coupler would be able to move around quite a bit and wear down the ball. If the ball is the right size then excessive tongue weight could be a factor. The trailer tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of he gross trailer weight. The ball you use will need to be rated higher than the gross trailer weight. You can also lubricate the ball so that there is less friction. Some ball lube such as # 58117 would work well for...

  • Hitch Equipment For 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
It looks like your towing capacity is around 3600 pounds, although you should consult your vehicle's documentation for exact capacity. A 1200 pound boat and trailer should not be a problem. For your hybrid the etrailer e98903 would be a good choice for a Class-3 hitch with 2" receiver. I have attached a link to this product and an installation video on a 2020 Pacifica. I think the matte black finish hides the hitch better and will inhibit rust longer. You will also need a ball mount...

The Reese # RP66074 Strait-Line System is a perfect choice for your large Grand Design Reflection travel trailer. The Reese excels at maintaining towing in a straight line especially when outside forces like passing trucks and wind gusts push on the very large sides of your trailer. The cam system is more rigid when in a straight line and the 1200 pound tongue weight rating gives you that little extra strength you will occasionally need. This unit does not come with a required adjustable...

A coupler latch like the one in the Repair Kit for Titan Couplers # T1848700 will wear down over time and will need replaced when it wears down. • Trailer Coupler Gets Stuck on the Trailer Hitch Ball
When a coupler gets stuck on the ball it can be because of several factors. First, if there is tension between the truck and trailer then it can cause the coupler to bind and get stuck on the ball. You can try moving slightly forward or backward to relieve the tension. If that does not release the tension enough you can also use the trailer jack to lift both the truck and trailer a little to relieve the tension which will make it easier to unlatch from around the ball. • Trailer Coupler is Stuck on Hitch Ball and Will Not Release
First, release the mechanism that holds the coupler onto the ball. It may be a lever or a knob that has to be turned. Some require a dual action move where you would push back or forward on the lever while lifting up on it. If you have done this and it seems to be stuck then it is most likely a binding issue. You can try moving the tow vehicle and trailer forward or backward to release the tension between the ball and coupler. Binding can occur if the trailer and tow vehicle are not on...

This is a lever action standard grease gun and will work great with the L11354.

  • Is There a Problem with Greasing A Hitch Ball to Reduce Noise?
Greasing a hitch ball isn't a bad idea to reduce friction and noise. We carry the Reese White Grease Hitch Ball Lube # 58117 because of this. Many people will choose not to simply because of the mess, but grease will actually keep moisture from corroding your equipment, so I'm not in agreement with the dealer. The noise that comes from a weight distribution system that uses friction bars like # EQ37100ET is quite loud at times. You do not want to grease those bars or brackets because...

It sounds like you might have a gooseneck ball like the Curt # C60601. The ball uses 2 large ball bearings to lock it into the collar of the hitch.
