Video Transcript for Review of Redline Boat Trailer Wheels - Trailer Tires and Wheels - Wheel Rim Clamp - 15-2

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this wheel rim clamp for your utility-type or mobile home-style hubs. Now this video I'm doing is just gonna be on the clamp itself. The hub and drum assembly that I show here in this video, it's to demonstrate how this clamp installs on it. It is designed to be used on this Dexter trailer hub and drum assembly for 6,000, 7,000 pound axles. We do sell it separately, it's part number 8-174-5UC3.

Now the clamp here is what is used to hold the mobile home-style wheel rim to this hub on a utility-type axle. It will also work on mobile home axles. Now it will require the use of a 9/16th size nut to install this clamp on the stud of this hub and then tighten the nut down. The nuts we do sell separately on our website. They go by part number of 916M, and they're usually listed on this product page as a related part.

Now what I do want to show you, we're gonna zoom in here and I'm gonna slide this utility hub over. And you can see this hub has the five studs on it. So, basically what you do is you take that utility wheel and tire and then you just set it over this hub. It has no center on it, it's just a tire mounted on a rim. You drop it right on here onto the hub, and then you'll take this clamp we're talking about, and this clamp is gonna install over the studs.

There's five of them, and that is what'll tighten down with a nut and hold your wheel assembly to this hub. Now one thing, when you do install this clamp, it is critical that you install it in the correct way. If you look on this wheel clamp, it is stamped "rim" up here and then "wheel" down here. So you need to put it on in a certain direction. Rim means it's gonna go towards your tire.

The wheel means it's going to the hub. So when you put these on, you wanna make sure your wheel goes to here and the rim side goes to here, and then you'll drop it on over the rim, put your nut on, tighten it down, you're ready to go. Now this clamp can be used on mobile home axles, but instead of using the nut with it, the mobile home axles don't have these studs, so it's just threaded holes. So you'll need half-inch size wheel bolts to hold the clamp in place. The wheel bolts, we do sell separate on our website. They come in different lengths, so make sure to get the correct length. And that's if you're gonna use it on a mobile home axle. Now this part is for a quantity of one wheel rim clamp. It does require five of them for that hub and drum assembly, so if you need more than one, you just pick how many quantity you need. But that should do it for the review on this wheel rim clamp for your utility-type or mobile home-style hubs.

Best on the market. Let’s be honest everyone you will get is cast so it’s generally the same but the finish is spot on.

The 15-2 rim clamps were perfect. The 916N nuts were one size too large (my bad for assuming and not measuring to confirm the correct nut size on my end).

The rim clamps are still holding the the wheels to axles.

Thanks George
Sadly don't have pics
ability, but, The seals and rim clamps for my ancient dayton axled trailer fit perfectly. Rim clamps relieved the inch and a half wobble from the left side that had looked like an obvious bearing failure. Was really impressed with the rim clamps having stamped "wheel/ rim" , Silly me, being and old tire man, would have thought the rim was the wheel. My old school mentality specially with an old dayton hub/wheel...still, got her done. Course a bonnet is hood is a.... engine cover, is an glove compartment and a Lorry is a Truck in other parts of the world...!
Thanks for the great service. I cheated as an old tire/parts/mechanic/guy by actually measuring the seals after visiting Napa, Auto Zone, and getting the ....duhhh....blanks that I expected.
From now on it's You All, when I need trailer parts...!

I am very pleased with etrailer their selection of products and prices are more than extensive and competitive respectivaly. The Rim Clamps were only available through etrailer at least from all the places I looked to include local tire and trailer supliers. The custmor service rep that I spoke with at etrailer was not only polite and helpful but also knowledgable and when presented with a request for an Item that was out of the ordinary, as well as unknown title (Rim Clamps) She took my description of the item and deciphered it as well as seeking other more experinced assoiciats advice on the items availability. All in all I would just like to say Thank you.

Hard to find part. I had quite a few of these on the old trailer I restored that had been put on backwards and destroyed. These worked great.

by:

by:

My order was for only 1 small piece, I could only find it in a group of 6 at other vendors and I didn't want 5 of these laying around. The order even came a day early, Great Job!!
Thank You!

  • Replacement Rim Clamps and Wheel Bolts for 5 Spoke Utility Hub
By 'blocks', I'm assuming you're speaking of rim clamps, which we sell individually as part # 15-2. The 5 spoke utility rims we offer, part # 8-174-5UC3 use wheel studs, not bolts. To determine if we carry a wheel bolt that would work for you, I'd need to know the diameter, whether the existing bolts use a fine or a coarse thread and the length of the wheel bolts currently used with your hubs. I've linked you to our selection of wheel bolts, you can compare your bolts to these or simply...

  • Matching Lug Stud and Nut Needed for a Rim Clamp Wheel with Screw in Wheel Studs
I believe you have the correct parts selected. The Hex Nut, # 916N, is designed for use with the Rim Clamp, # 15-2, and the 9/16 inch Wheel Stud, # 25-11. the Hex Nut has a 90 degree face so it is not conical or cone shaped on either side.

  • Which Way Does Wheel Rim Clamp # 15-2 Go on Rear Wheel of Mobile Home
The Wheel Rim Clamp # 15-2 that you referenced will install with the lip towards the inside of the hub on the other side of the nut that holds it in place. The angled portion of the clamp sits outside of the wheel and it will tighten up against it as you turn the nut. We don't have any pictures available of this particular clamp installed and it's a little hard to describe it but if you search for some images online of a wheel rim clamp installed you might get a clearer picture as to...

  • Wheel Bolt Size for Wheel Rim Clamp for Mobile Homes Style Hubs
Typically mobile home hubs use wheel bolts instead of studs. This rim clamp has hole diameter of 9/16 inch. Most of the wheel bolts we carry that will be long enough to work with the rim clamp are 1/2 inch diameter wheel bolts. If your mobile home hub uses 1/2 inch wheel bolts, then I would recommend the Redline Wheel Bolts, part # 7-23, or part # 090753. Since the 1/2 inch wheel bolts have a smaller diameter than the hole in the rim clamp, there may be some play but should work and hold...

  • What Is the Torque Rating for Lug Nuts on a Mobile Home
Typical torque rating for car, truck and SUV lugs is 90 ft. lbs. As always, you should check with the manufacturer of the mobile home for proper ratings. Vehicle weight, lug type, hub type, etc. all play a role in the torque rating and the best way to find out would be to call the manufacturer of the mobile home.

  • How Does Wheel Rim Clamp for Mobile Home Style Hubs, # 15-2 Install
On the Wheel Rim Clamp for Mobile Home Style Hubs, # 15-2, the portion with the lip goes toward the inside of the hub and opposite the nut. The angled side goes to the outside of the wheel so as you tighten the nut it pushes against the lip on the inside putting pressure to the angled section on the outside to hold your wheel tight.

  • Are There Different Size Wheel Clamps # 15-2
We only carry the Redline Wheel Rim Clamp # 15-2 which is specifically made for the Dexter Axle Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3. I suppose if you have different hub and drum assemblies then it is possible that they would use different clamps but that would depend on their design. Do your axles have the same weight rating or are they completely different? If this is the case then you really need to change them out so that they match. If they are different weight ratings then that means...
