Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes BP01-110 Review

Today we're gonna take a look at the replacement trailer brake magnet kit for Dexter and Hayes Alcove 10 inch trailer brakes. This magnet kit will allow you to replace the worn out magnet on your 10 inch trailer brakes, helps you save money and time, because it's better than having to replace the whole brake assembly. This part is designed to work with the following 3500 pound axle brake assemblies. It fits the Dexter 10 inch by 2 1/2 inch brake assemblies, part number 23-26 and 23-27. It fits the Dexter 10 inch by 2 1/4 inch never adjust brake assemblies, part number 23-468 and 23-469, and the Hayes Alcove 10 inch by 2 1/2 inch brake assembly, part number 60202803 and 60202703. As you can see here, it has a nice oval magnet design it.

This increases the efficiency of your brakes and will help extend the life. The sleeve, right here, you'll notice, this will protect the wires from any abrasion. That's the part that goes through the backing plates so if there's any movement you don't want those wires to be cut into. Now, it does the two wires connected so they do need to be connected when you install this. One goes to your brake feed, one goes to a ground, and they're both green wires, so either wire can be used for either function. This part includes everything shown here on the table, the magnet itself, the two springs, and the hold down clip.

A few dimensions on the magnet, just to give you the length of it, from one end to the other is right at 3 5/8 inches long. It's going to be 2 1/8 inches wide, and the overall height of it is right at about 7/8 inches tall. That should do it for the review on the placement trailer brake magnet kit for Dexter and Hayes Alcove 10 inch trailer brakes.

Perfect replacement

All 3 items I ordered have worked as expected. It is great you had everything in stock. This makes choosing ETrailer my first choice.

by:

i ordered an electric brake controller, and it worked perfectly. It came in the time frame as ordered, and was exactly what I had ordered. I took it to a repair shop and the mechanics installed it and, voila, I had brakes!

Im not sure. I traded that trailer in on a new bigger one, so I cant comment for sure, but it was working perfectly when I traded it in.

by:

It was a well done discription and info.. When I got the part it was exactly what I thought. Came real quick and works perfect.

by:

Exact replacement for what I originally had, slipped right on and into place.

by:

Easy to install and work great!

by:

Works well!
Great customer service and
great experience!

My AL-KO axle has the text "AL KO 08 05" stamped into the brake shoes in the hub with 10x2.25 brakes and 4.5 inch bolt circle.
Its not exactly the same as the original AL-KO magnet on my trailer - but from all I could tell a perfect fit. The lead wires are plenty long to reach outside the hub before splicing.
This magnet is just what I needed to replace the magnet who's wires wire sheared off at the backing plate when a tire failed. The reasonable price was nice too!

by:

Had some difficulty installing until I figured out that removing the entire brake assembly including the backing plate allows bench top installation vs trying to install on the trailer. The magnet works as expected and I now have four wheel brakes instead of three!

by:

Still working. It is almost never the magnet that wears, but the wires inside the drum that always seem to wear thru and short on some moving part. Trailer brakes what can I say, the design is an after thought. Like when the cable guy runs the wire in your house...

by:

Bought a new second had trailer.
Wasn't
sure of the axle make and model.
Stripped out the bearings and found the grease seals rubber lip very hard.
Called E Trailer and Phyllis was excellent in working with me to identify the correct seals but with a double lip.
Ordered and received very smoothly-- as promised.
I am going top fit them tomorrow but have already offered up the OD to the hub and the ID to the spindle and I know that I have the correct seals.
Seals look to be good quality and I expect them to be fine.

by:

I bought 4 brake magnets for the RV and they work great. The original magnets each drew different ohm numbers. Two would lock up . I replaced them with your magnets and it brakes consistently every time now. A real easy job too.

I would never give a review, I have always felt it was a waste of time and I never thought it mattered. I have changed my mind. I ordered some parts for my trailer from an competitor, only because I went to the first site i found on my web search. I was given a good product and I cant complain about their service. What I want you to know that when I had to buy some more parts to complete my project, I had a friend recommend this site, not only did they beat the price on the same parts, I was given great CUSTOMER SERVICE. I ordered the parts and received an email to make sure I was happy with my order and if I wasn't, I should call them and they would make it right. In this day and age, I'm all about spending my money with those that will care about my business transactions with them. If they don't show me that they care about me. I simply wont spend my money with them again, and I would never recommend them to anyone. I was extremely happy to spend my money with these guys, as I like when a business follows up with me when I buy their product. I had a larger order that came in two packages. One package arrived a day before I expected. I called about the remaining package, thinking they messed up my order. I spoke with a very nice lady that explained that the other package was due to be delivered on time and that if it wasn't there when I expected, I could call back and they would handle it. I love it when a business that I spend my money want to make sure I'm satisfied with their service. That very Idea of customer service makes me a customer for life.

by:

Service was great and part was as described. After replacing these it did not solve my brake problem. It was a short in the wire going through the axel. Check that first if your brakes are not working. I replaced the wire an all was good.

by:

Product was good. I was bummed to find out after I purchased these that I could have purchased and entire electronic brake assembly with magnets and brake pads i for not too much more :( My bad for not doing a little more searching before purchasing.

by:

At a sale price cheaper than a no name locally sourced magnet, the savings was a no brainer. The shipping was fast and communication from etrailer is top notch. The product itself is good quality, pig tail plenty long to splice wherever is convenient, the spring is actually larger in diameter and stiffer than OEM which I count as a plus. It pays to do business with etrailer, you WILL be satisfied with your experience.

by:

Product arrived as scheduled great packaging, I installed both new brake magnets and now trailer brakes are both working as they should which should help spare my truck brakes with the extra help.

by:

Excellent
the grease was used on the
trailer, it looks good but only miles will tell.
I am very happy with the service and phone call from the company. The call was to clarify my order. This is five orders over a few years.

by:

Parts were received early...quicker than expected. Customer service is great, very helpful and friendly. Got the right part, waiting for decent weather to install new parts. Etrailers is the only place I buy my parts, also refer my friends and relatives. Great place to buy from, Thanks again.

by:

I found etrailer's website easy to navigate and customer service was excellent for an online company. The parts that I purchased fit perfectly. I used youtube to watch the installation video that etrailer put up. Will use them again. All the parts fit as they should and the job went smoothly.

by:

Easy to install. Perfect fit. The only recommendation I would make to etrailer.com would be to include the grommet where the wires exit the brake housing. The old grommets were damaged and not serviceable.

by:

Item received quickly and easily installed. Only problem was that a part that should be included, the strain relief bushing, is not . This small item is specifically mentioned in the installation instructions as a must replace component and proved impossible to procure locally.

by:

Magnets are installed and brakes are now working fine. The Q&A on your website was particularly useful in this instance because there was some question as to which part number would be the right one for my application. Etrailer offers more than just parts! Thanks, Etrailer!

by:

solved an issue we had with our horse trailer when pulled with our F350 on a trailer connection warning.

by:

Every item I ordered worked and fit exactly as I had hoped it would. Prices and shipping was top notch and will definitely buy from e-trailer again.

  • Brake Installation on 1960s Custom Trailer
It is normal for an electric brake assembly to put drag on the hub. When brake tension is adjusted properly the hub should have slight drag when the wheel is rotated. You should both hear and feel this slight drag. Hadco makes many different series of hub/drum assembly. If you have their 84 Series, these use bearing set 25580 and LM67048. We do offer hubs that fit this bearing set and these can be seen on the provided link. The thing is that all of these hubs are 12- x 2-inch diameter,...

  • Troubleshooting New Electric Brake Installation on 1960s Custom Trailer
First, thank you for your recent purchases from etrailer. The Dexter brakes you selected, 10- x 2-1/4-inch Dexter manual-adjust electric drum brakes # 23-26 and # 23-27, are the only width size in a 10-inch diameter. These are intended for a 3500-lb axle. The brake magnet coil, or armature, is intended to contact the brake drum's inside surface at all times. It is normal for the brake magnet to extend outwards away from the trailer a bit and beyond the edge of the brake shoes. This is...

  • Replacement Magnet For Dexter 3,500 lb Electric Brakes
Having a significantly heavier side of the trailer could cause some additional wear, yes, as it would be working a bit harder, but unless it was quite a lot then it shouldn't be a big issue. As for grooves, there should not be any type of grooves it should be smooth. As for the replacement magnet for your 3,500 lb Dexter electric brakes the correct part is the Replacement Trailer Brake Magnet Kit # BP01-110.

  • Recommended Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies For 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Brake Assemblies
There are many ways to find out the axle you have on your trailer. The first way is to check the diameter. A 3500 lb axle has a 2-3/8 inch diameter compared to a 1-3/4 inch diameter on a 2000 lb axle or a 3 inch diameter on a 4400, 5200 or 6000 lb axle. Another way to tell is by the bearing size and the seal. Yet another way to narrow it down is by the brake assembly. When you gave the 10 inch assembly, I can narrow it down to a 3500 lb axle or a 4400 lb axle, but you would need to...

Your Northwoods Arctic Fox 32 5th wheel probably has a gross weight around 16K so it probably uses two Dexter 8K axles. I wish we had an easy solution, but we don't have magnets that will fit your application and we don't have a way to replace just the brake assemblies either as since what you have is welded directly to the trailer axle. • Why Would Trailer Feel "Heavy" All of A Sudden When Towing
Sounds like the brakes are dragging based on what you described. This can be caused by a few things but a lot of that depends on the brake setup. Does your brake controller show any odd messages or possibly that there is brake voltage sent to the axles at all times? How's the condition of the breakaway system? Have you tried jacking the trailer up and then seeing if you can turn the wheels by hand? You might be best off if none of that looks out of place by pulling the drums off the brakes...
