Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the replacement brake shoes for the Dexter 12-1/4 inch by 3-3/8 inch right-hand side drum brake assembly. Now, these are the replacement primary and secondary brake shoes on the Dexter 12-1/4 inch by 3-3/8 inch right-hand passenger side electric drum brake assembly. These are designed to fit on the Dexter 8,000 to 10,000 pound General Duty 12-1/4 inch by 3-3/8 inch electric brakes that have the cast backing plate. Now, when we talk about the primary and secondary shoes, what we're talking about is the size of the pad that's on the brake shoe and that'll let you know what position it goes on either the right side or the left side.
So basically if we start with this pad, and this is the pad, the length of the pad on the shoe is from here to here. And if we look at this one, the length of the pad on the shoe is from here to here. This one's longer. This one's the shorter pad. So the shorter pad is the primary shoe.
And the primary shoe will always face the front of the trailer. So these are gonna basically install onto your brake assembly just like this. So that's gonna tell you with the primary shoe facing the front of the trailer, these are going on the right-hand side. That's why these are considered a right-hand side assembly. Now, this part does include the two brake shoes you see here.
And when we talk about the size, the 12-1/4 inch by 3-3/8 inch dimension, what we're talking about is the first dimension, the 12-1/4 inch. That's gonna be the diameter of these when these brake shoes are installed onto the backing plate held in place by the springs. If we measured from here to here, it's gonna measure right at 12-1/4 inches. And in the 3-3/8 inches measurement, that's gonna tell you that's the width of the pad as your 3-3/8 inch measurement. But that should do it for the review on the replacement brake shoes for the Dexter 12-1/4 by 3-3/8 inch right-hand side drum brake assembly.
