Double-Eye Dacromet Springs Diagram

Part NumberABCD

If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Everything about this order is top notch. They provided plenty of information to help me select a spare set of leaf springs. With so many options l appreciate their effort to steer me in the right direction.

I’m happy to say the spare set of leaf springs are safely stored in event of a failure on the road. The original set survived a 3-month trip to Fairbanks after I installed a set of Sumo Springs to help dampen the Alcan, frost heave shock load.

  • Will Too Much Tongue Weight Cause A Trailer To Sway When Passing Or Driving On Uneven Roads?
Too much hitch weight can cause some rocking side to side, but typically the rocking or trailer sway is more commonly an issue on a trailer that there is not enough tongue weight. Usually too much hitch weight (tongue weight) will just cause additional sagging of the rear suspension on your tow vehicle. Trailer tongue weight should be between 10-15%, so I recommend using a tongue weight scale like # e99044 to measure your current tongue weight and readjust your load to try and get to...

  • Replacing Leaf Springs on Boat Trailer Where Suspension is Bottoming Out
The most important factor for picking out replacement leaf springs for your trailer is to first go with the correct weight capacity and then secondly the correct length. If your boat weighs 3,800 lbs alone you'll need much higher rated springs. When you consider the weight of your trailer a 5,000 lb spring like the part # e28SR might be a great option. It has a very common length too of 25-1/4 inches. To measure your spring you'll want to get the length between the eyes when there isn't...

  • Leaf Springs and U-Bolts for 2010 Keystone Cougar Travel Trailer
The best leaf spring option we have is the part # e28SR which has a 5,000 lb axle capacity and is 25-1/4 inches in length. Old springs do tend to stretch a bit over time but in your case this capacity matches what you are in need of and is a close enough length that it would work well. Then for a u-bolt kit for a 3 inch diameter axle you'd need the part # CE23003 which comes with plates and nuts/washers.

  • Recommended Leaf Springs and Equalizers for Triple Axle Trailer With Double Eye Springs
I saw you were looking at double eye leaf springs so we will assume that is what you have. In regards to leaf spring hanger spacing, the most common for a triple axle trailer is 29-1/2" first to second (center to center), 34" second to third (center to center), and 29-1/2" third to last (center to center). Therefore, it would be best if you would place the leaf spring hangers accordingly. Once the leaf spring hangers are in the above positions then you have a few options based on axle...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for Trailer with Dexter 4,400 lb Axle
I checked your order notes and the leaf springs you bought last year were the part # e28SR which are for 5k axles. Since this is over the capacity of your axle failure would not have been caused by over loading the trailer assuming you stayed under that figure. Were you on off-road terrain? It's also possible the failure was a fluke or you are overloading the capacity of your trailer.

  • Will the Larger Capacity Leaf Springs Fit Tandem Axle Trailer With 3,500 lb Axles
If the measurements on your trailer match the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, part # e54SR or part # e28SR, they will bolt up to your trailer. My contact informed me that the heavier 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, part # e28SR will work, but it will give you a rougher ride. Also the weakest link on the trailer will be the 3,500 lb axles when using the 4,800 lb leaf springs. It is recommended to use the Leaf Springs For 3,500 lb Axles, part # e54SR for your trailer with 3,500 pound axles. Installing...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2020 Covered Wagon with 25-3/4 inch Length
Old springs tend to stretch out as they wear out so in your situation you would want to go with a slightly shorter spring like the 25-1/4 inch length which we have in a 4k capacity part # e57SR, 5k with part # e28SR, or 6k part # e78SR.

  • How To Determine Replacement Leaf Spring For 2017 Grand Design Reflection with 5,200lb Axles
No, the etrailer # e28SR would not work for your 2017 Grand Design Reflection with 5,200lb axles. To find the correct spring you need to jack up one side of the trailer so there is no weight on the spring at all, as weight will make the spring get longer, and then measure from center of eye to center of eye. If the 26" measurement is with weight on the spring, then there's a good chance you'll instead need the # e76SR instead which has a 5,300lb rating and measures 24-7/8" long. Let...

  • What is Spring Rate of Trailer Leaf Spring # e28SR
So trailer leaf springs like the part # e28SR typically only flex about 1-1/2 inch when at capacity. So that means it takes 2,500 lbs for this spring to move 1-1/2 inches and spring rate is weight required to move spring 1 inch. That means it takes 1,675 lbs to move the spring 1 inch.

  • Recommended Leaf Spring Replacement for a 3,500 Pound Trailer
Though the etrailer 5,000 pound leaf springs # e28SR will have more capacity than your original leaf springs, they might be a bit overkill. The more heavy duty the spring is, the stiffer they will be, which may cause the trailer to bounce when you hit bumps. These will still fit and work, but I don't think the towing experience is going to be the best. The better option will be to go with the 4,000 pound leaf spring # e57SR. These will still have more capacity than the originals, but will...
