  • Does a Spindle with Scarring and Complete Bearing Failure Need to be Replaced
What concerns me about this situation is the scarring on the spindle. Depending on how deep and how bad the scarring is, a new set of bearings and a new hub/drum assembly might experience the same problem down the road. This would mean that the spindle would need to be replaced also. Otherwise, you may have to frequently replace parts. It would be best in this situation to eliminate the possibility of future similar occurrences before they have a chance to cause damage. Any visible scarring...

  • Determining Replacement Hubs for EZ Lube Spindles
EZ Lube spindles are compatible with all idler hub and brake hub and drum assemblies, and the only difference is the seal and grease cap. To determine the correct replacement hub for your trailer, you will need to pull off your existing hubs to determine the bearing numbers. The difference between the EZ lube hub and drums and the non EZ lube hub and drums is the grease cap and seal. The EZ lube ones like the # 84546UC3-EZ have a removable rubber seal on the cap that allows you to access...

  • Replacement Idler Hubs for Antique Home-Made Trailer with 3500-lb Axle
All of the idler hubs we offer for 3500-lb axles use the same bearing set, L68149 and L44649, and in fact none of the idler hubs we sell have the bearings used in your existing hubs - please see linked page. This means that you will need to have a professional welder change out your spindles - or instead do what I suggest - change out your axle entirely. Since your trailer is "antique" there is an obvious safety benefit to replacing the entire axle/spindle/hub assembly. You will also avoid...

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Hubs for a Tracker Marine Boat Trailer
What you are going to have to do is pull off one of the hubs, something you will have to do eventually any way, and get the inner and outer bearing numbers. The numbers are stamped into the metal of the bearings. With these numbers I can tell you exactly what you need as replacements. The wheel size and bolt pattern of the wheel will also help. I have included a link to a video that will help.

  • Spindle Measurement of Part # TRU47FR
The F measurement is the length of the square portion of the spindle stub, which can either slide into the end of the axle and be plug welded in place or more commonly welded to the bottom of the axle tube. As long as the spindle is going on a 3500 lb axle and the rest of the dimensions match (B, C, D and E), it is not so important that the F dimension match perfectly, just as long as it is not dramatically shorter than the spindle it replaces.

  • Spindle Recommendation for a Square 2x2 Axle
For your 2 inch by 2 inch axles you would want a Redline Spindle for Square Axles # TRU47FR. This is a square spindle designed for 2 inch square axles so it should work for well for you. Check out the review video I attached. The EZ Lube Spindle # TRU74FR you referenced is designed for round axles so it would not work for you. Spindles should be welded on by a qualified welder.

The TruRyde #84 Trailer Spindle, # TRU47FR, is compatible with Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-258BTUC1. The hub assembly is designed for use on a 12 to 15 inch wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The hub assembly comes with the bearings, races, cap, lug nuts, and seals.

  • How to Tell if a Trailer Spindle is Damaged or Needs to be Replaced
If you remove the hub and wipe away the grease on the spindle you can check to see if it is damaged. Look for an scarring, gouges, discoloration, or scoring on the spindle. If the spindle is damaged then the bearings won't ride properly and can fail again or it can cause other problems such as uneven or excessive tire wear and ride quality problems. If the spindle is damaged then you can't really repair it and the whole axle should be replaced. I doubt that this is the case based on your...

  • Help Identifying And Replacing Hubs And Spindles On An Old Trailer
Hey Mark, thanks for the pictures. That is a pretty interesting trailer. I can't say I have seen anything like that before on a trailer with a single leaf spring spanning the whole axle like that. It almost looks homemade or like someone used an axle or transverse leaf spring from an old car. Anyways, the hub appears to be a 4 lug idler hub, but I am afraid I can't give you any more specifics beyond that just by looking at a picture. If you are looking to replace the spindle and hub, your...

The good news is that it's pretty simple to determine which hubs you need. • Availability of Spindle that Would Fit Square Tube Axle
New spindles should be welded on only by a professional welder who has experience and the correct jigs for installing spindles perfectly straight and concentric. If not installed correctly the trailer may not track properly and uneven tire wear can occur. It might be more trouble than it's worth to try and fit a round spindle like the part # TRU24FR in a square tube axle by trimming it. We have a square version of this spindle as part # TRU47FR.

From the measurements provided in the photos, it looks like you have an inner bearing that has a 1.250 inch inner diameter and an outer bearing # LM11949, which has a .750 inch inner diameter. This leads me to believe you have some variation of agricultural hub, like the Redline Trailer Hub Assembly # AH15450ECOMP.
