Works as advertised. I use it full time. I painted the step surface with Herculon bed liner for a rubberized non slip surface, that works even when covered with frost or mud. Only down side, is that it reduces the tongue weight of the truck hitch by 50%. I typically use it to haul a 2 horse trailer. If it ever gets damaged, I will immediately by a replacement.

Its been a year since I bought it. I still use it all the time, it is holding up well. If it ever gets damaged or lost, Id buy another one.

by:

Affordable front step (wide platform) to service lifted vechicles and will provide distance between exterior mounted spare tire and hitch rack.
Suggestion: design the step to fold up or down for a full time install.

by:

Great addition of the step on our hitch between the truck and bike rack. We can access the camper without swinging the bike rack away every time. We sprayed Herculiner Truckbed liner on it to remove the slick finish.

by:

works great. added a tie down strap and 6 gal water can for camping.

by:

Appearance is good, gives me a tighter turning radius...weight rating could be better or closer to units thrice the price..but the unit solves my issues...

Solved my turn radius issues.

Excellent quality. Well made large step with good quality finish. I use it for the extension of my Thule bike rack.
I bought a silent lock to secure the extender, and would buy another locking device, as it is too close to the hitch frame to work.
I would recommend this extender, my self rising Jeep trunk will not hit the Thule bike rack now.

Needs to be a tighter fit

Thank you for your review. For a tighter fit you can get an anti-rattle device like the one linked.

Received my hitch extender with step a week ago and have used it 2 times. It is truthfully 'awesome'. Seeing my boat in my mirrors is so much better and the boat follows just as smoothly as before. Although the weather is quite warm in Northern California right now I know launching and retrieving my boat in cold weather months will be easier and with 'dry feet'.

Still very pleased wit my extender. My buddies are happy about warm dry feet helping me retrieve during our past winter...

ITEM AS DESCRIBED.
WORKED PERFECT FOR MY PROJECT.

by:

It is a good product but I would of used a little heavier steel for the step plate.
I am not worried about it collapsing. it is already cheap but a few bucks more for heavier also means longevity as longer to rust out because of salted roads for example.

I recommend routinely checking this powder coated Maxxtow hitch extender with step part MT70069 for scratches. If you see any scratches especially if they are down to the bare metal, it is a good idea to spray paint that area with black rust-inhibiting spray paint. If you already see rust you can sand it down a little and then spray paint. If the step is exposed to salted roads make sure to spray it off with fresh water. All of these tips are recommended for powder coated hitches as well.

One year later it is doing well. I am using a two thousand pound capacity winch to bring my jon boat up a steep bank next to my secret brown trout lake. Everyone who sees my application wants one so I use a tongue lock with it !

by:

Great for being able to pull a trailer with the tailgate down.
Only draw back I see is that I have a tilt trailer and it shifts the weight back even further back in relation to the truck, potentially making it sway more with heavy loads - light loads, no problem.

by:

Perfect solution for my Toyota pickup at a great price. I am now able to drop the tailgate when my bike rack or T-bar are attached.

Two very minor negatives:
The side edges of step are not rolled like some of the more expensive units. They'll leave a mark if you bump them.
Didn't come with the required 5/8" hitch pin.

But really, for the money you save versus most of the comparable units, you can buy quite a few hitch pins.

by:

The step works great for having someone stand and ride with me while traveling around my property. Easily removes when I want to put trailer ball receiver in place of the step. Reccomend it as a “buy.”

by:

After one year year the step extender has been great. You will want to grind the 4 corners more rounded as it caught a pair of shorts and tore them. It is well worth the money as an easy extension off the back of my Jeep to clear the larger spare tire.

by:

I bought 3 of these. One for my pickup, one for my tractor, and one for a spare. They fit loose in the receiver and I bought an anti-rattle hitch stabilizer for my pickup. The tractor doesn't matter. They are heavy and seem to be well built. The price was right. My only complaint is how loose they fit in the receiver.

by:

Very sturdy, but did need to shim the two step unit to eliminate wobble.
Easy to install & remove.

Continues to work well.

by:

Used with 3 pt. hitch on tractor to aid in transporting trash container over a 1/2 mile to main access road. Works pretty good - very helpful aid - performs the task that I intended to use it for (to haul trash container with tractor).

by:

exactly what I needed to be able to hook up trailers to my jeep liberty and be able to keep the spare tire mounted on the back hatch. Before I couldn't hook trailers up without opening the back hatch up first then latch the trailer. Order was received sooner than expected. I'm very pleased with service and product, will definately continue to do business with them as needed.

by:

I used this product as a base to mount a worm drive winch for moving heavy equipment in tight quarters. Good fit and paint finish but the platform was obviously bent unevenly at the plant. Better part of an inch difference in width between the two ends of the platform. Annoying but not a deal breaker for me since I don't look at it every day.

by:

Works as advertised. Delivery was actually 1 day ahead of scheduled date.

by:

Always top notch service and fast deliv ery.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for to climb in/out of our SUV for car camping, also doubles as a stool while camping. The hitch arrived on time, is exactly as advertised, good price.

by:

Purchased this and a front hitch. Excellent product for extending the hitch for a bike rack.

by:

When I made my order, I was quickly notified about not having 1 of my items available at the warehouse location. He quickly found one, and had my items expedited to me. The items even showed up a day before he thought they would come. This is how business is done. I have another trailer I’m working on, and I’ll be sure to use etrailer for all my needs. It’s refreshing to know that people value you as a customer. Thank you George, and thank you etrailer for a great business experience. I’m very appreciative.

by:

Great product. I launch my bass boat alone most of the time. The extra distant between the boat and truck allows me to step up into the boat without getting in the water. I recommend spraying the step with skid resistant paint just to be sure you do not slip if your shoes are wet.

by:

Quality looks good but I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. I ordered safety chain extensions with this and only received one of them so I’m in a holding pattern at the moment.

  • Bike Rack for a Camper on a 1982 Ford F-250
You'll need to take a few measurements prior to purchasing a rack to ensure a good fit. First, you'll want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point away of either the tailgate or camper, whichever is further. Your bike rack will need to be able to clear this distance to be able to equip to the vehicle. Because you have a camper, I recommend picking an extender with a step that will be far enough away to use to get into the camper. This has the added benefit...

  • Available Hitch-Mounted Step That is Less Than 15-Inches Wide
We do have many styles of hitch-mount step including 2-step models like # RHS2 (which is a bit too wide for you at 17-inches) as well as lighted steps like # BBS-1104L. For a good basic step that is less than 15-inches wide you might consider one of these: WeatherTech BumpStep # WT81BS1 Carr Mega Step # CARR190011 MaxxTow Hitch Extender with Step # MT70069 If you can tell me your vehicle year, make and model I might be able to offer additional custom-fit product options.

  • Swinging Cargo Carrier/Hitch Options to Fit 2-Inch Class III Hitch on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2-inch hitches offered for your 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee are all Class III rated, with a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500-lbs. All can be seen using the link provided. The issue that arises with use of fixed hitch adapter/steps like the units you reviewed, # MT70069 from MaxxTow, is that they have the unavoidable side-effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by half (50 percent). This is because all such devices alter the geometry of the forces applied to the hitch. On the...

  • Recommended Adapter For Hauling Honda Generator While Flat Towing A Vehicle
The MaxxTow Hitch Extender with Step - 2" Hitches - 13-1/2" Long - 7" x 14" Platform # MT70069 will support the generator, but will not be able to tow your car. The gross towing weight of this extender is 4,000 lbs which isn't enough for 95% of vehicles. I recommend using the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 4" Drop/Rise # RM-077-4. Then you can use a cargo carrier like the 19x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18100 to carry your Honda 2000i generator. This adapter will work well for...

  • How to Determine if HitchMate Extendable Receiver Mount TruckStep Will Fit a 2012 Chevy Silverado
To determine if the extendable hitch step # HE4045 will fit your 2012 Chevy Silverado you will have to take some measurements. Measure from the bottom of your hitch receiver down 1-5/8 inches. Then from that point measure back up to 22-1/2 inches. If there are no obstructions in that area and you have a 2 inch receiver then you can use the step. I have included a picture that should help. For a hitch step that doesn't extend we have # MT70069 which costs a little less than the other step....

What you are going to want to do is wait until your husband is busy and then take a measurement on the truck and hitch. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the truck straight back to the distance required to clear the camper. If that measurement is less than 6-1/2 inches then the hitch stairs, # RHS2, will clear the obstruction. If it will not then you have some options. You can use a hitch extender. • Availability of Extra Long Shank for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
Your H3 has a 2-inch Class III hitch on it. We do offer hitch extenders for this hitch size but the issues with using one of them is that many are not suitable for use with towing/weight distribution systems, and all of them will reduce your hitch capacity by 50-percent.
