Video Transcript for Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System Review

What's up everybody it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna checking out the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock device. And what this is gonna do is just gonna go on your ball mount or the shank of a bike rag, or even a cargo carrier. And it helps stabilizes it. So you can see right here with this ball mount moves around a whole bunch. Once I install that, that movement's gonna be gone.

Let's check it out. So with just the pin in let see how much movement we have in our ball mount. And so I'm gonna show you how to fix that and then install our device. So you're gonna take the Anti-Rattle plate here the flat part's gonna sit at the bottom of the hitch and the part that's angled up will push up on the ball mount push it in to place once we tighten it down. So let's drop our U-bolt through.

Then we'll put our flat washer, lock washer, and nut at the bottom. And we're gonna do that on both of them. So we're gonna get hand tight to help hold it on there. I'll do the same thing On the other side. Come back with a ratchet.

You continue to tighten it down. Let you do it evenly. Go back and forth. You don't wanna do one. Tighten one way more than the other.

Looks pretty good right there. Now I'm gonna shake the whole vehicle back and forth. You see there's no rattling or movement whatsoever in the ball mount. Now with that installed, that was just an easy way to show you how it takes the movement out of the ball mount with it, the you bolt here pulling down and this pushing up against there at the same time it takes all that movement out of there. Malone says that you can put it upside down if you need to for clearance issues. So we did that here on my hitch, and it actually seems like it got a little bit more behind the hitch. So it seems like it might work better for me this way. So that is an option. If you have clearance issues like I did. So the safety chain loops kind of get away at the bottom. So that full plate can't go all the way back. This one seems a little more sturdy. Now I threw a cargo carrier in the hitch, just to see, this has got a lot of movement up and down so that Anti-Rattle pin's in there. It does not move side to side at all, but that up and down we're gonna try and take care of it by adding that device on there. But first, we're gonna drive around the parking lot and see how bad it looks before we install it. Now we've shown it on a two inch hitch with a two inch cargo carrier and a two inch ball mount, but it can also work with inch and a quarter. So if that's your hitch size and that's accessory you would use it for, you can use it with that too. With installed on the cargo care. It worked out really well. There's not a lot of movement up and down. It really stabilized it. You could definitely see it when we we're going down the bumps. I think it's gonna be nice for any of those accessories. Like the ball mount, , even a bike rack. You just want a little more stability. You don't like that up and down movement. It's gonna help eliminate that. And, it's really easy to install and take back off. It's not a permanent thing. You just make sure to have a ratchet to tighten it down. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope This helped..

Absolutely does what it says. Just bought a 2023 F-150 and my rattling hitch was driving me crazy! This even stopped the ramming when pulling my Z-8 Nitro LOVE IT and the super nice people at Etrailers

by:

I used this to secure the hitch for my camper. This hitchlock is super simple to install and defintely eliminated any slop in the hitch/receiver connection.

by:

It doesn’t exert any horizontal force on the lip of the hitch so less likely to cause long term damage to the hitch.

by:

Easily took the slack out of a ridiculously heavy anti-sway hitch head on my '24 Canyon.

by:

I like the way the this anti-rattle device works. The black plate grabs the vehicle hitch well.

by:

I have this installed on my class A RV. It eliminated annoying noises when towing a vehicle, or when we hauled 2 E-bikes. I wish I had purchased one years ago.

by:

It’s a simple product. Not sure it’s as valuable as the price but it does the job so I’m happy with it. After all these years of towing I’m amazed that I need to buy something because nobody can make receivers and hitches that fit properly. Quality sucks with receivers and hitches so we get to buy stabilizers. Having said that this one is fine.

Still good. Product does what it is supposed to do. Minor complaint is it is too much effort to install for short trips with my utility trailer to the dump so I put up with the banging. Still recommended.

by:

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.

It still works great, I never take the hitch off my truck so I do have to check the nuts before towing, but still no shifting of the trailer at all

by:

These are a must for hitch mounted cargo carriers and bike racks. This model has a thinner ubolt than another brand I bought, but works just fine so far.

by:

Easy to install, no more rattle. Thank you ETrailer for a quick solution to an annoying problem.

by:

After 1 year still works like it should. Thanks E trailer. Always good products.

by:

I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.

Still the best thing since sliced bread.

by:

This item did exactly what it stated it would and then some. I have a 3k hitch on the back of my 5th wheel and carry 2 eBikes. Not only did it stop the shaking that continually occurs during transport, and it also raised the entire bike rack at its furthest point about 2". More clearance!

Thank you etrailer!

by:

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several
runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".

by:

Works as expected

by:

Have not used it yet but it should fit.

by:

Works as described, a simple device to stabilize receiver hitch.

by:

This anti rattle didn’t stop the movement completely but it was a tremendous help. Drove to Vermont and back without the noise of my rattling bike rack.

by:

I liked the one better that was out of stock at the time. More visible

by:

I am very satisfied with this setup supplied by etrailer.com. FYI, don't skimp on getting this little (heavy duty) part as it keeps the racket down in the back. It can actually be considered a necessity in my opinion as without it there's a whole lot of clankin' and bangin' goin on without it. Just sayin.

Thanks folks (at etrailer.com)

by:

Great product, works well

by:

Works great, and easy to install!

by:

This keeps your hitch from rattling around and keeps it tight. A must have!

by:

Works great, no more rattle. The 3/4 inch nuts can be easily tightened with my drill, which has the socket to raise/lower the stabilizing jacks.

by:

A must have when using a cargo carrier.

  • The Best Bike Rack for a 2005 Honda Element
Based on your needs, the best fit for your 2005 Honda Element is going to be the Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes item # S64683. This bike rack fits the 2" receiver of the etrailer item # e78KR you are having installed. The carrier is lightweight at only 47 lbs so it is easily removable. The best feature about this bike is its ability to fold down so you can access your rear cargo area. I have attached a picture below of this function. I have also linked an installation and review...

  • Can I Use the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System To Reduce Rattle Towing a Small Travel Trailer
Yes. You can use the Malone Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock System # MPG908 to help reduce/eliminate rattle between your receiver and ball mount when towing your travel trailer. With that said, my preferred solution for this is the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 because it's a little more sturdy. Roadmaster builds parts specifically for towing and they've got some of the highest quality parts on the market for this solution; just check out all of the 5 star reviews on the Quiet Hitch. • Anti-Rattle Device for Use when Towing Trailer with 2011 Toyota Tacoma with Class IV Trailer Hitch
The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch anti-rattle devices like # RM-061 are only designed for flat towing one vehicle behind another and are not rated for towing a trailer. I recommend going with the simple yet effective Boone anti-rattle device # MPG908. It is very economical, easy to use, and works well. It basically wedges itself between the hitch and ball mount, taking out the movement.

  • Reducing Movement in Receiver When Using a Reducer Sleeve in 2-1/2 Inch Ford Factory Trailer Hitch
The 2-1/2 inch Reese shank # RP54977 will fit the 2-1/2 inch factory Ford hitch on your truck. But there could be a possible fit issue. The factory Ford 2-1/2 inch receiver has a unique corner radius that doesn't match up to anything well. We know that there can be issues on 2012 to 2014 models. The 2011 may be a better fit but I cannot guarantee it. Using an anti-rattle device such as # MPG908 will help a lot with the movement due to the use of the reducer sleeve. I have included a link...

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for 2 Inch Trailer Hitches
I do have a couple of possible options for you that will both fit the Curt trailer hitch # 13147 and the ball mount # D-4. First, if you do not need to have a lock we have anti-rattle device # MPG908. If a lock is desired, then take a look at # SR25219 from Softride. This works in much the same way as the above device except that it can be locked. I have included a link to a video review for you.

  • Anti-Rattle Device to Stop Rattle and Movement of a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
We have several different anti-rattle devices that you could use to reduce or maybe even eliminate rattle of the rack in the hitch. First, many bike racks now come with a threaded bolt or anti-rattle device of some kind. If you can tell me the bike rack you have I can see if there is one specifically made for it. I recommend the No-Rattle clamp, # RM-061-125 as it will fit 1-1/4 inch hitches and accessories and the bike rack shank can be solid or hollow. Or order # MPG908 for 2 inch....

  • What Is The Smallest Anti-Rattle Device Currently Available?
The smallest anti-rattle devices we carry will be designed for a 1-1/4" hitch, like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061-125. We do also have the Curt Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches # F-315, but this requires a hollow shank to be used and I think the Roadmaster part does a better job of immobilizing the accessory in the hitch. With that said, if I am way off the mark on what you are asking about, let me know and I can try again.

Yes the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 can work with the Curt Hitch Extender # C45796. In most applications a small amount of space rests between the larger portion of the extender and the collar of your vehicles hitch. The distance between the pin hole of the extender and the larger section of the extender is 3". This allows some room for the U-Bolt of the Malone anti-rattle device to fit. With the u-bolt being 1/2" in diameter you would only need 2-1/2" from the center...

I have a couple different options on ways to fix a loose ball mount. The Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SHP2061, dramatically reduces any movement or vibration between your hitch and hollow shank ball mount.
