Video Transcript for Review of Curt Trailer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C40001

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball will provide the connection point for your 1 7/8 inch trailer's coupler, and will accept up to a 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. On the shank of the ball, has the fine threads on it that provide a nice tight, strong grip. And the dimensions on the shank, the length of it, it's gonna be right at 1 5/8 inches long, and the diameter on it is right at 3/4 of an inch. Now, this ball is constructed from a high strength hot forged steel, you can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and if you notice on the sides, the two flat ends here, these built-in wrench flats make it easy to hold the ball in place while you're tightening down the nut.

The nut itself as a zinc plated 1 1/8 inch size hex nut, and it comes with the lock washer for secure mounting to the ball mount. This is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch thick, and when you install this, this shank will just drop through the hole in the platform. After it's through the platform, put your lock washer on there, put your nut on there, and then tighten it down to the correct specified torque. Again, the specs on this, the ball diameter is 1 7/8 inches, which is marked on the top, and the weight capacity is 2,000 pounds gross towing weight capacity, which is also marked on the top. But that should do it for the review on the Curt 1 7/8 inch diameter hitch ball with the 3/4 inch diameter shank, and the 2,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..

Bought this Class I hitchball because the rest of my installation is Class I. Made sense at the time, but the 2” Class II ball is a tighter fit on the U-Haul trailers I rent, and that is probably better for the inevitable rattling. In the end this Curt ball is both good and cheap, and that is a winning combination for me.

by:

Works great for my e-trailer kayak trailer, also used it for a U-haul tow from Sonoma County California to Gold Beach Oregon.

by:

I moved from Arkansas to Washington State last year and towed a small UHaul with my 2017 Chevy Trax, which has the new hitch that I purchased from you. Everything worked great and I had no trouble whatsoever.

by:

Easy installation. Helps to have two people, however, I installed it alone with the help of jack stands. I highly recommend the Curt receiver. I have another Curt receiver on my 2011 Honda Accord that I also purchased from etrailer.com.

I just finished hauling a load of bush and tree trimmings to the dump with my utility trailer. Attached is a close up photo of the receiver in use.

by:

Still working

by:

Received item as advertised in a timely manner. Will certainly do business again as needed in the future. Will certainly recommend.

by:

The cost was cheaper than I could find elsewhere. No frills easy to install.

by:

This is a very good product but the real story is the fantastic service and support you receive even in a problem install like I had on my Fit. Three people helped me with the semi custom install I needed. Now perfect. Repeat customer, second install great products and company

by:

Good products, reasonable prices

by:

All the items in my order arrived today. Thanks for your continued follow-up on this order and the speedy shipping once you had the item on hand. I also appreciated the installation video and pictures on etrailer. com. I routinely recommend that my customers reference your website for install instructions and product explanation videos. Keep up the good worK.

by:

Just fine, shipped with the rest of the order and was on time.

by:

The ball started to rust pretty quickly, even though I put a bit of grease on the ball and hitch before I ever used it. Functionally it is still a round hunk of metal that does it's job...it just doesn't look very good.

by:

I bought this ball and drawbar to attach to my Polaris Sportsman ATV to pull my trailer around. The drawbar was a perfect fit to raise up the trailer and level it. Well made product, welded nicely to the smaller receiver bar and is perfect for what I needed. I would recommend this product.

by:

Looks to be a quality hitch ball, easy to install.

I only use them a couple times a years, still work fine.

by:

Easy installation, everything fit as advertised. Works great too.

by:

Shipped and arrived quickly, and appears to be of good quality. A suggestion: like many others, I don't have a socket big enough for the nut, and my torque wrench only goes to 80 ft-lb (the spec calls for 160). I will have to go to a local garage and have them tighten the ball onto the ball mount. I would have been happy to throw eTrailer a couple of bucks or so to have them do this for me when they filled the order. Please consider offering this service.

by:

Was a complete fit, goes past my bumper. The diverlery was fast. I'm completely satisfied with your product and will recommend to my friends.

by:

Nice quality 1-7/8" hitch ball with short shank that is long enough for the ball mount, but does not hang below the nut by much.

by:

Who cares the other part is useless

by:

This ball is made in China not USA as advertised. Steve did take care of it when I called and said he would have specs changed. All in all a good place to shop hopefully they will get another manufacturer for ball hitches made in USA

by:

It is a ball. Nice and shiny.
To torque
it, install it on the drawbar, put the drawbar into a hitch, and torque.

by:

Nice quality, easy install, great on line directions and light kit, just plug and done

by:

Fit perfectly, good finish!

by:

These folks have great communication, and the best prices I've been able to find for the products I ordered. When I got the items, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The kits are complete and have everything needed. I'm quite happy with etrailer.com

by:

Solid ball. I love that spring washer that comes with this ball. It locks in every inch of torque you apply.

  • Installation of Curt C12287 Class II Hitch on 2013 Volvo S80
I'm sorry, at this time we don't have any install footage of the Curt # C12287 Class II hitch being installed on a Volvo S80. I've linked the installation instructions for you, from the looks of them the installation doesn't look too terribly difficult. If there's anything specific about the install you weren't clear on, let me know and I'd be happy to help. If you'll be needing the hitch for towing purposes, you'll need a couple few other items to complete your setup. For a trailer wiring...

To tow a trailer with any vehicle you will need a trailer hitch, ball mount kit, and a wiring kit to activate the trailer lights. • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2013 Dodge Avenger
If you had a small trailer for your motorcycle you could tow it with your 2013 Dodge Avenger with the Curt hitch part # C11133 installed but if you were thinking about using a motorcycle carrier there's no safe way to do this with your Avenger. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # C56211 which installs pretty easily. Then for a ball mount part # C45522 and hitch ball # C40001.

I have a solution for you, but we do not have any hitch mount motorcycle carriers that will allow you to carry your dirt bike with your 2012 Nissan Versa. All of the hitch-mount motorcycle carriers we offer are designed to fit 2 inch trailer hitches. The only trailer hitches available for your Versa are Class I trailer hitches with 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers. A Class I hitch, and your Versa, won't offer the necessary tongue weight capacity to carry your dirt bike on a hitch mount carrier....

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2014 Toyota Prius 4
As far as whether or not you can tow a trailer with your 2014 Toyota Prius you will need to check the owners manual or with a Toyota dealer for the final say on that. Our understanding is that Toyota says that you cannot tow at all with your vehicle. With that said, we have seen instances where people will do this anyways and parts are available to do so. For a hitch you can use the Curt # C11276, which is a confirmed fit on the 2014 Toyota Prius. For the wiring I recommend using the...

The Class II ball mount we carry that's closest to the 7 inch rise you need is part # C45014. However, it only offers 5 inches of rise. I've also attached our article on determining the amount of rise you need. You want to measure from the ground to the top of inside of your hitch receiver on your Subaru. The thickness of the platform on the Curt Class I Drawbar # C45021 where the hitch ball is installed is about 5/8". For a 2" hitch ball you can use part # C40018 or for a 1-7/8" hitch ball you can use part # C40001. If you don't already have a pin and clip the part # F-4 is perfect for this application.

You will want to ensure that you do not exceed the weight ratings given by the manufacturer for your vehicle. This will not require you to change your rear shocks.
