Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

I received the tires this afternoon and immediately installed them on my Stainless steal plate Motorcycle trailer. It fits two Harley Motorcycles so the "E" rated 1.650 lbs rating per tire was perfect and great for highway speeds with 87mph rated tires will run smoothly. These are perfect for doing heavy duty hauling at high speeds.

by:

The valve stem cracked on our first outing and the tire went flat on the interstate. Fortunately, we had a Tire Minder that went crazy and we got off the highway immediately. The trailer was behind our fifth wheel and we would not have know it until someone notified us, possibly ruining the axel. That was kind of scary. I was surprised the valve stem was cracked being new.

by:

Replacement tire for my atv trailer. Perfect fit, no issues. Kenda makes a good tire.

by:

Tires work great on my snowmobile trailer. They’ve held up great being out in the elements year round and haven’t lost pressure. Would recommend.

by:

Not a single issue. They have held up great. Held air throughout the winter months of michigan.

@Adam Thank you for the update.

by:

I replaced tires on my pontoon trailer, which had dry rotted, and it looks like I’ve got dependable tires on the trailer for quite a while.

by:

I recently purchased a used pop up camper. It was missing a spare tire and looking online for a replacement was a bit of a challenge. I contacted this company and they were extremely helpful. I received my new spare tire and rim in 3 days. Fantastic!

by:

The rim and tire fit nicely and are still performing well today! Thank You.

by:

I couldn't be happier. This wheel and tire combo was a perfect replacement for my old rusty dry rotted whee's and tires. They came ready to go out of the box and they even got delivered 2 days earlier than expected. I will be coming back here the next time I need utility tires.

by:

First time ever using etrailer to purchase anything. I can honestly say it will not be my last. Excellent service, price and delivery.. Awesome company to do business with.. Wish I could give them more than 5 stars.. 10 star company for sure.. Thank you etrailer...

by:

I've purchased several times from etrailer and have never been disappointed by the quality of their products, the speed of their shipping, or their competitive pricing.

by:

Ordered 2 tires on rims for my pontoon trailer. I was unable to find any other venders that had the size tire I needed, with the load carrying capacity that I was able to get from etrailer. They came very quickly too!

by:

I ordered six trailer tires on Wednesday and they were delivered on Friday. Can’t believe the speed in which these tires were delivered. Thank you Stacy, my boat is now in route to Florida.

by:

The reason I gave a average was because recently I have noticed paint coming off of rims ,tires are fine but rims are loosing paint think since I have had snowmobile trailers for 20 years paint on rims should last longer

by:

Tires and rims look great, can't wait for my next trip.

by:

The 205/65-10/lKenda Loadstar white steel wheel/tire combo (item AM3H480) is the upgrade I needed for my 4' x 7' trailer. I can now run highway speeds without fear of tire failure. Speed rated at 87 mph, it takes away the stress out of long distance travel. It's overkill for my little trailer's weight rating requirements, but I don't want any failures at speed when I have my Harley or ATV in tow. Better to be safe than sorry. I recommend this wheel and tire combo for durability, weight and speed rating, and good, simple, clean looks.

by:

These were just exactly what we needed and the pricing was great.

by:

good product, exact fit, good price necessary spare for tow trailer

by:

Everything arrived as ordered. They are the spare hub, wheel and tire to use when I travel with my pontoon. I also have all new hubs and tires on my trailer that I ordered from etrailer last summer. Here is a pic of my retirement pontoon that I plan on logging many miles on Midwest rivers.

by:

Couldn't ask for better service, and pr oduct.

by:

Fast shipping. Great customer service. Tires/ wheels seem to be good quality. Happy I found them at a better price than other sites or dealers. Will try to report back after I move the pontoon boat to and from the lake.

by:

I want to thank you for the tires and rims. The timely receiving of the tires was greatly appreciated, I would recommend your web site to other people and hope to do business with you again in the furture. Thank you again

by:

This wheel/Tire combo was on back-order when I ordered them. Etrailer followed up with me to see if I still wanted them. I did and I received them a while later. You can’t beat the price especially since they were load rated E. Good product. Etrailer is awesome!

by:

Owen these for a year, great tires, rims at a great price. Couple out of state trips with no issues!

by:

I bought these tires for my Popup camper a year ago and they are excellent and are holding up great. Ive put 6000 miles on them and they still look new. Highly recommend them!

  • Replacement Wheels and Tires for Pontoon Boat Trailer with 20.5 x 8-10 Tires
The correct replacement tire for your 20.5 x 8-10 tires is 205/65-10. If what you meant by the smaller bolt pattern was 4 on 4 I recommend the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range E # AM3H460. These tires have a maximum load of 1,650 lbs at 90 psi per tire and a speed rating of N meaning a maximum speed of 87 mph. If you meant the smaller of the 5 bolt patterns, and the 2-5/8" measurement was between adjacent holes, you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern....

  • Can Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 White Wheel be Used on Boat Trailer
The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H480 can be used on a boat trailer. A better option for a boat trailer might be a wheel that has a galvanized finish like the part # AM3H490 since it will hold up better to corrosion since the boat trailer will get backed into water.

  • Available Special Trailer Tires for 10-Inch Wheels on Pontoon Boat Trailer
When you select new special trailer (ST type) tires for your pontoon boat trailer you first want to ensure you choose replacements that can handle the weight of the fully loaded trailer, and second, tires that provide enough clearance in the fender wells or wheel wells. Take the GVWR of the trailer (gross vehicle weight rating) and divide by the number of tires on the trailer to find what weight each one needs to be able to handle. The most common size of tire on a pontoon boat trailer...

  • Availability of Wheel and Tire Combos with Tire Size 205/65-10
We have wheel and tire combos that have the size you want of 205/65-10 but the correct fit will depend on the bolt pattern wheel you have. If you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you'd need the # AM3H460, or if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you'd want the # AM3H480. The least common bolt pattern option we have is the 5 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern like the # AM3H454. If you are unsure what your bolt pattnern is I attached a help article that covers this.

We do have baby moon hub caps available like the # PX1307SS Phoenix USA Baby Moon Hubcap. Unfortunately, we do not carry one that will fit the 10" wheel on the # AM3H480 Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel. • Is Wheel Pilot Hole Diameter Important When Selecting New Wheels for Pop-Up Camper
It is ideal to match up the pilot hole size of wheels with your existing hubs since the actual weight load on the wheel is intended to be supported both at the pilot hole and studs, and not just at the studs themselves. If the wheel's pilot hole is much larger than the hub requires then the full load on the wheel will be carried on the studs. All of the 12-inch wheels with 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern that we offer (please see included link)have a 3.19-inch pilot hole diameter. Smaller...

You'd have to go with a next larger trailer tire size of 205/65-10 to get at least a capacity of 1,500 lb per tire. For that we have the part # AM3H480 for if you need a 5 lug bolt pattern or # AM3H460 for if you have a 4 lug bolt pattern. The overall size of this will be 8.4 inches wide and 20.4 inches in diameter. This will be noticeable larger than what you have so you'll want to measure first for clearance.

Yes, the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H480 is typically used for 3,500 lb axles/hubs which you can see based off of the 1,650 lbs at 90 psi weight rating. Just make sure that your hubs use the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and you're good to go. I have attached a photo showing you how you can determine your bolt pattern if you aren't sure.

  • What PSI For Loadstar 20.5x8x10 Trailer Tires
It sounds like you have a Loadstar 205/65-10 trailer tire like part # AM3H480 which always needs to be inflated to the max PSI according to Loadstar. You want to inflate to the max psi to give you the rated load capacity as well as the best traction. Not running the tires at max PSI can cause your tires to overheat which is the leading cause of failure. The only tire manufacturer that allows for lower PSI with lighter loads is Goodyear at this time. The overall diameter is 20.4" and overall width is 8.4". Therefore, the increase will be 2.4" diameter and 2.5" width.
