Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I actually bought 3 of theses and wheels for an overlanding trailer I built from a CE Smith boat trailer and other parts I bought from etrailer. I am happy with these tires and wheels as well as the trailer and other parts.

by:

I have about 6200 miles on them with no issues. Most of the miles are going from WI to FL twice. They are wearing even and look like 3/4 tread left. They are installed on 2021 Coachmen 192RBS.

by:

There are so many trailer parts suppliers out there that are completely unreliable or worse. I had a very good experience with etrailer all the way from helping me find the correct wheels to the fast delivery. If I need something now I start here. Thank you.

by:

These tires came stock with my boat and lasted over 6 years of guiding with a lot of road miles.. found them on etrailer and had them on my doorstep within 3 days of ordering. Great service!

by:

I purchased 2 tires and a tire and a rim for my spare. They look great and the fit was perfect. If I need tires again, I will be ordering them from etrailer.

by:

If you Google “best trailer tires” you’ll get 10 different opinions. I decided to go with etrailer because customer service is over the top and I’ve had very positive results with them in the past. Peyton was very knowledgeable and helpful. Time will tell how good my new tires are but the purchase process was smooth. Delivered in 4 days.

by:

From the time I placed my order I was pleased with the way I was kept up to date. It was easy to track the order and it even arrived ahead of schedule. Thanks for that part of the process.

by:

Arrived fast and tires were manufactured recently. AOK

by:

bash shipping box and tire in excellent condition!

by:

I bought a used 2013 Keystone Hideout from a private party. The rv didn't have a spare tire. I researched part numbers for the same Karrier tire and Dexter wheel that are on the camper. Search results had etrailer at the top of the list of responses. Prices for these pieces were competitive with other websites. Free shipping over 99 bucks sealed the deal. Just before making the order I noticed that two axle grease cap covers had cracks in them. I searched the ALKO/Hayes part numbers and etrailer was the only site ( other than the mfg ) to list/cross ref the covers AND they were in stock for a low price. I made the order on Tuesday and they arrived Friday which is real good for free shipping from Missouti to N.E. Pa ! Parts arrived securely packaged and in perfect shape. I am very satisfied with this order.

by:

Great service !

by:

Looks good and the date code is recent,
Time will tell how good a tire it is. Shipped in avery sturdy cardboard box.

by:

etrailer had everything I needed in stock. I ordered and they were shipped very quickly. Great job etrailer. It is not the first time I have done business with your company. I was equally pleased in the past. Loyal Customer!

by:

Exactly as ordered with super fast ship ping!!

by:

TIRE CAME FAST AND GREAT QUALITY

by:

I bought these Karrier tires to replace the original Karrier tires that had worn out /failed (broken belt, uneven tread wear) on my 24’ RV. They have run over 8000 miles now and are still looking good. It is important to get the wheels balanced when new tires are installed.
It took a few weeks to get these as they were back ordered in 2021.

by:

It was very easy to order from etrailer. Product arrived quickly. Have since made three trips with the new tires and they ride nicely.

by:

I received my order (Karrier ST295/75R14) extremly fast and in good order. I've had it mounted and will be using it for a spare. For that reason I did not give it and excellent rating because I have no idea how well it will perform. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
I will give etrailer.com an EXCELLENT rating for great service!

  • Replacement Tire Recommendation for 14" Wheels to Replace B78-13 Size Tires
Your B78-13 tires were designed to fit on 13" wheels. Since you are wanting to use 14" wheels you will need to go with a larger size tire as well. For your application I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 # AM10234. This will be a little over 1" wider than your current tire and be about 2" larger in diameter as well. I like this tire because it is a cost-effective option that has a lead range C (1,925 lbs at 60 psi), a max speed rating of 81 mph, and comes with a 2-year...

  • Speed Rating of Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire
The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has a speed rating of 81 mph; from time to time things get changed or updated so thank you for pointing this out. I have added a link to a video review of this tire for you to check out.

  • Recommended Replacement 205/75-14 Tires for Boat Trailer
For replacement tires I would definitely stick with radial tires since they tend to last longer, so you wouldn't want the # AM1ST86. Instead, I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM10234. The load range C will have a slightly higher capacity over your current tires but that is perfectly fine. These tires have a maximum load of 1,925 lbs at 60 psi and a speed rating of M for 81 mph. They come with a 5-year limited warranty and a 1-year worry-free guarantee....

  • Difference Between Bias Ply Tires # AM1ST90 and Radial Ply Tires # AM10234
The difference in tires that have either a D or an R in the tire size description is that a D indicates a bias ply tire, and an R would mean it is a radial ply tire. Examples of each type are ST215/75D14, part # AM1ST90, and ST215/75R14, part # AM10234. The difference in the construction of the tires is that the cords underneath the tread run in different directions. On a bias ply tire, the cords run at a 32 degree angle from the direction of travel. On a radial ply tire, the cords will...

  • What Size Metric Trailer Tires Will Fit In Place of Size F78-14 Tires
For your older trailer tires, you can use size 205/75-14 as replacements. We have three tires in this size. The first is a radial tire, # AM10234. Since it is a radial tire, it is more durable and will provide a better ride. It is rated for 1,925 pounds at 60 psi. We also have two bias trailer tires. First is # AM1ST86. This is a load range C tire good for 1,760 pounds at 50 psi per tire. It is recommended to always run the max tire pressure in your trailer to provide the best performance...

Based on you confirming that the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 matches the tire size that you have these should be the correct tires that you need. There are different load ratings available for the 205/75-15 tire size that you need. Also the load rating is per tire so you will be able to multiply that by 4 for the total trailer GVWR. If you are unsure there should be a trailer ID sticker on your Ranger Trail trailer that will show you the weight ratings required for...

The Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 14" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black PVD Finish # 460545MBPVD is not compatible with the Demco Kar Kaddy SS because it has a zero offset like most trailers require. You instead will want the Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly - Chrome # DM11574 for the very specific +42mm Offset. You can use the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM10234 for the tire and use the spare tire mount # DMRKSTM.

  • Are Different Size Trailer Tires Okay
It could be a problem for you to have tires with different psi ratings because that means it is likely you have different size tires. This will cause them to wear unevenly and for your trailer to potentially track differently and cause possible suspension issues. I very strongly recommend all four tires be the same size with the same load capacity in order to get the best possible performance. It may be something that cost a bit more now but is definitely one of those things that will save...

While we definitely have 14 inch, 5 lug wheels and tire combinations it would not be possible to match any up to 1966 hub caps as it will depend on how they fit into the wheel. For a wheel you may be able to use the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20304 which has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The ST205/75-14 is 26.3 inches in diameter and 7.8 inches wide which is about a 1/2 inch wider and 1.7 inches larger in diameter. This should be close enough to your original tire size to work fine. The same wheels can be used for both bias and radial tires. You do not need different wheels for radial tires. The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10235 has a max load of 2,200 lbs at 75 psi. The tire dimensions are the same so you can certainly upgrade from a C to a D. Tire pressure will not change with a load on the tire or not UNLESS the tire is overloaded and failing.
