Video Transcript for Review of Optronics Trailer Wiring - 7 Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector To Blade - A7WCB

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a real quick look at this seven-way round RV style trailer connector. This seven-way round plug is going to let you connect your trailer to your seven-way round blade connector of your tow vehicle. And this features a durable ABS plastic housing and the interlock system is going to lock in place to keep your connection secure. The oversized finger tabs are going to allow you to easily grip the plug during disconnections.

And I wanted to point out a few things here. On this end, on this side here of this connector, we have these two set screws that's going to loosen and tighten this insert. So when you begin to run your wires through this connector, you obviously want to loosen these screws up and that's going to allow that insert to move out of the way. So then you can begin to run your wires through there and then you can just tighten these two screws back up and that will in turn tighten up that insert and that's going to close, that's going to close up against the wires that you run through here, giving you a nice, tight, secure fit. So that's going to keep out dust and moisture out of those connection points.

And then I wanted to point out this other screw that we have here on the other end on top, that's going to allow this connection point to actually come out of the housing. So you're gonna run your wires through, get this portion out and make your connections and then put it back into the housing and then tighten the screw. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me.

I was expecting blade connectors as shown in the pictures and video and that is the main reason I purchased this item. Instead it had screw connectors.

Thanks for letting us know! I will have our customer service team reach out to you about this.

Works great, easy to install

by:

Parts arrived quickly and were very good quality. I will definitely use etrailer.com for all my trailer supplies.

by:

It would have been very helpful if the item description would have stated that the trailer connector was equipped with "Spade Contacts" and require Spade Connectors, and/or illustrate this in a picture, and provide those connector as part of the package. It would have saved a lot of time in making a second order to acquire the Spade Connectors.

by:

I was hoping for the terminal blade connectors, like the video shows, instead of the screw type connectors that I got. The blade connectors seem to be more reliable. Still, it's a quality plug, it's installed and it works. Thank you.

by:

Perfect fit. Easy to use. Great product. Using this to help trickle charge a battery for the trailer winch.

by:

We have an older 5th wheel and needed to change out the connector to match up with our new tow vehicle. The connection worked out perfectly!

by:

Used this as a plug for my portable 12V air compressor to facilitate access to power, rather than clips to battery. As usual, over the past several years etrailer is my go-to store for all trailer & towing needs. Excellent variety, price and prompt service. Keep up the good work..............

Yeah a part like this does not come with written instructions. I recommend taking a look at the review video we have below.

by:

Easy to wire and the hard mounted contacts solved the intermittent connection issue I was having with the previous connector that had floating contacts.

by:

Had to replace a 7 pin on an RV that got sheered by previous owner. The video on how to replace and the part made it very easy to change the connector. Saved a bundle doing it ourselves.

  • Curt Echo Brake Controller Only Works With Manual Override
When a brake controller, including the Curt Echo # C51180, works only with the manual override but not otherwise, the issue is almost always the connector or wiring on the vehicle or trailer. So first, check the 7-way on your 2017 Grand Cherokee and see if there is an issue with possible damage on the wires, and check to see if there is any corrosion on the pins or other dirt or anything built up. If so, clean it, or replace with 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975. If that's...

  • Troubleshooting Brake Light and Turn Signal Not Working on Trailer with 2015 Ford F-150
In order to troubleshoot your brake light and turn signal not working I would start by checking the 7-way connection between your 2015 Ford F-150 and trailer. You want to check for any damage or corrosion which may be what is causing the lights to not work. Whether corrosion is present or not, it wouldn't hurt to clean the connections just to be sure. If you still have an issue the next thing to check is all of the ground connections. You want to make sure that they are secure and on a...

  • Troubleshooting a Fault Code when My 5th Wheel 7-way Connector is Plugged In
Most likely the fault code is due to a wiring issue on the 5th wheel trailer. The first thing I would check is the wiring on the trailer for any breaks of splices that could be causing the short. Next I would make sure there is no corrosion inside or out that is causing the brake output wire to short to ground or another circuit, and make sure the wiring is connected properly, see wiring diagram link. If there is corrosion or because moisture can get in there and cause the wiring to malfunction,...

Assuming you have a standard 6-way plug and not the proprietary Lance plug on your camper you can use the # HM47085. This will plug into the 7-way on the bumper of your truck and connect to the 6-way on the camper. If you have the Lance plug, you will either need to get the Lance adapter or replace the connector with # A7WCB. If you replace the connector you could use an extension like the # C56080. • 7 Way Trailer Plug Will Not Stay Seated In the Vehicle 7 Way
This can be caused by a few things, but as you have enough slack in the wire, it is most likely just one of two things. The door flap, for the lack of a better way to put it, on the 7 Way plug on the towing vehicle snaps down on a tab on the 7 Way plug coming from the trailer. These can break off which causes them to come uncoupled. If this is the case, the 7 Way trailer end will need to be replaced with something like the Optronics # A7WCB. But it could also just not be seated all the...

  • Will 12V Blade On 7-Way Charge A Camper Battery or Refrigerator While Driving
For the battery, you can put a maintenance charge on your trailer battery with the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way. The 1:00 position of your 7-way carries this circuit. You would just need to run a length of 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 from this pin to the positive terminal of the battery. This won't charge a dead battery, but it will keep the battery topped off when you are towing the trailer. Because the power draw from your refrigerator will not be sufficiently covered...

  • How to Confirm Trailer Wiring Configuration to Match 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Trailer wiring often uses a particular wire color for a particular function, such as a white wire for ground, but there is no absolute rule that this will be the case. • Does 12V Pin on 7-way Trailer Connector Always Have Power
It sounds like you're asking about the 12V circuit on the 7-way trailer connector on the rear of your 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Some vehicles will always have power and some others will not. We don't have this specific information for your vehicle, but to determine if your 12V always has power you can test the pin in the 1 O'clock position on your 7-way. The other pins will have power when the corresponding light is used or the brake pedal is pressed.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Jack Whose Light Works But Motor Does Not
Thank you for detailing the issue and the testing you've done for the electric jack. My suspicion is that the jack's plug has a weak ground connection. A weak ground will pass enough power for the jack's light to function but may not pass enough current for the jack motor to operate. This is not uncommon on trailers that are a few years old and which may have developed some corrosion on the plug contacts. Check the ground and +12V contacts on the jack's male 7-way plug.
