Video Transcript for Review of Pollak Wiring - Wiring Adapters - PK12-724

Ellen: Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com,= and we're looking at the Pollak trailer wiring adapter. This gives you a 7-pole round to a 7-way blade, and it allows you to transfer those wiring connections from one vehicle to another, or from your vehicle to your trailer. Typically this is going to be used in mostly ag applications, when you're moving things around on the farm and you just need to have those flashers so that you can let other people know to go around you, or just to watch out. Some things to keep in mind, though, a lot of times whenever you have a 7- blade round connection, it's going to be wired a little bit differently than what this is intended for. So if you have a separate brake signal from the trailer, the turn light signals, so if those are on different wires, the brake signal and the turn signals aren't combined, this won't work. It only works with a combined signal system. It had a resistor or a converter in this, you could make it work, but it's just going to be a direct wiring. Also, you definitely want to test all the functions of the wiring, because it can be a little bit squirrely as far as what lines up with what.

A lot of things are wired differently anyway, or not really wired standard, so that's always something to keep in mind. But these, from what we've tested here at the shop, it seems like these don't always line up either. So the safest thing to do is just to test it before you get this installed, so you can see what portions of this connector in here connect to here, because it doesn't just go directly, it can be a little bit weird. So definitely want to test it with a volt meter to make sure that you're getting the connections that you want.As far as the wiring harness itself, nothing too special about it. It's got some wire loom going over our wires to protect those, so it should keep them pretty safe.

Definitely will keep them safe from any cuts and things like that, so they're not going to get bounced around. It's not going to be completely water tight, of course, we can see all our wires inside there. All the wire gauges are listed on the product page here at etrailer.com so if you do need to make any kind of changes and add in anything here, you can. If it we're me, I'd probably make the changes inside the portion here, if you use a little Phillips screwdriver you can usually get access to the wires in there, and it looks like there's a couple holders in here, and that will allow you to reroute the wires if you want to go that way, it's up to you though.I've seen some folks also say that their wiring didn't quite match up with where the catch is on this lid. It's pretty far up from what I've seen on other wirings.

Usually it's further back. So that's something that's kind of weird. That's not long enough for me to put one end the other, but you might have to make some modifications there. Really it's just going to allow you to get from one connection to another, so just that different style of the round to the flat blade style, or the blade style. But I would definitely check those wires to see what corresponds with what.

The orientation will be this block here, sort of long piece at the top, that should be the top of this, and then obviously this would be oriented like that. So you want to test it in this orientation to see what lines up with what.Overall length is about 14 and a half inches. Should last you a long time, it's a pretty durable product as far as that goes, but just wanted to let you know that as far as the wiring functions, you definitely want to be careful with this and make sure that everything is lining up as you want it to. And again, if you have a separate wiring system, it will not work, it will only work with combined systems. If you try to use it separated, you basically just won't get that brake signal coming through, it'll only give you the turn signal, and even then it won't necessarily give you right turn and left turn separately, if that makes sense. So that's pretty much all we have to look at with this wiring, I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right solution for you. And if you need the other parts, we do have a lot of options available here at etrailer.com. I'm Ellen here at etrailer, thanks for watching..

I received this item in a plastic bag, for a few moments i wondered if it was a knock-off. I had done my home work and was sure that this item would be compatible with the socket on my John Deere 2013 5085M at the time I ordered it, not so. The 'holding ridge' at the plug-in end was not in the right position when fully inserted into the plug on the tractor. I sent multiple pictures to Pollack Technical Support but they were unable to assist me. I finally modified the item myself (something I really hate to do) so that it would fit the plug-in and be 'grasped' by the cover/holder on the tractor side. As I anticipated, the thickness of the plastic was inadequate to make the adaptation 'sweet', so I had to cover the resulting hole with silicone caulk.

This is a great solution for adapting RV blade connector to 6 pole connector. I give it 5 stars. I use this for work purposes, and have found one issue that I DON'T believe to be manufacturer defect. In my industry we use different trucks and trailers daily, if not hourly. Some trailer electric brakes will lock up when adapter is connected. I have found the red wire in the adapter to be the problem. My solution was to splice in a switch so that when the intermittent problem arises I can flip the switch and be on my way.

Thanks for the information Charles, I did want to let you know that there are two differnet wiring configurations for these 6-way connectors. Sometimes the red wire that you noted as the brake connector point can also be pinned as the 12V power wire. This would then activate the brakes, as you noticed. Your solution while it worked for your application is not something that we generally recommend for our customer in case they forget to flip the switch and are then towing without brakes on their trailer. For that instance we recommend repinning the connector and changing the 12V and Brake pins to correspond to the correct functions.

It worked as expected but he male round plug bottomed out in my tractor and would not engage the latch on the lid to hold it in. Had to sip tie it in place. I have other 7 pin round plugs which work fine but this one seems longer than the others.

This adapter saved me a ton of headaches and time! I have a 1986 GMC K3500 that I tow with. I had an out of town event and a borrowed trailer I would be using. This adapter allowed me to just plug and go using my existing wiring set up. It performed flawlessly! I especially liked the built in tabs that lock in using the existing spring loaded cover to secure the plug in place. No worrying about the plug loosening up during the trip. The story would not be complete if I did not also mention the great customer service that helped me get this adapter when I needed it!

by:

My trailer connector works great. Because I live a ways from town it was great to order it online and have it shipped. It arrived quickly. One note: When I was in town I did see the same connector at NAPA for the same price. All things considered, I'm happy with my purchase and would order from etrailer again.

by:

Well I was hoping that the product was gonna take my 7 pin round 3 wire system on my truck and turn it into a 7 blade round 2 wire system for my trailer. But it doesn't Convert my system from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. But it does go from a 7 pin round to a 7 blade round.. So Ive ordered the converter to fix my problem.

by:

Got it just when it said it would be here. The 7 into 7 plug that was ordered is already on the truck an trailer. Thanks Guys.

by:

This item is high quality but the real "value" here is the outstanding customer service that etrailer provided. The 7 pin round plug provided didn't fit my 7 pin round socket and they went out of the way to research the difference in my socket and their plug. Great company.

I still like it fine but I dont use it much.

by:

seemed to be a good product , the only problem was going from 7 pin round semi connector to 7 pin rv style the trailer brake circuit did not line up , some rewiring was required so it would work with the brake controller ( if i would have i checked your website i would have known it sooner , no problem figured it out ) used truck and trailer alot since , no problems so far

We are so glad we found etrailer.com! We have never ordered an incorrect part because their info - and large bank of Q&As - has always told us everything we needed to know. I wanted to share our experience with the Pollack 7-way blade to 7-way round connector, part PK12-724. When researching for the correct part, we found a question from a buyer who had the same/similar vehicle, a 1993 Ford F-150 with a factory tow package. He was told to buy the PK12-724 but to cut the red and blue wires and cross-connect them. (This was info we we so glad to have!)

We did so, and most everything worked except the trailer back-up lights came on whenever the lights were turned on. We mentioned it at the RV place when we were there, and they checked it for us. Turns out that not only did we have that issue, but our trailer battery was not charging when hooked up and truck running. So on the blade end of the connector, they moved some of the wires around (see included illustration), and voila, everything now works correctly! I hope this is helpful to others. I believe the truck information is the most important info for this fix, but FYI our Trailer is a 1994 Komfort 27.

The adapter arrived faster than expected and works great. It’s a perfect fit on both ends. I also love the 14.5 inch length, which was definitely needed for my use.

by:

Assembled with plastic sleeve to cover wiring. Sleeve has continuous slit and taped poorly at end with electrical tape. Priced reasonably.

by:

Product exactly as advertised. John Deere tractor to hay wagon. Plug and play

by:

The adapter harness eliminated time & grief to replace/re-wire the commercial style plug on a farm tractor, allowing use of tail, turn, and brake lights on trailers with blade type connector. Works great.

by:

Have a '79 Dodge with the older style 7 round pin Pollack connector and bought a new camp trailer with the 7 pin spade connector...needed an adaptor. Their PK12-724 was the perfect fit! Well built, and works perfectly! Etrailer.com has fast order processing too. Very satisfied with the product, price & service!

by:

The 14 inch extension 7 prong pigtail arrived very quickly as described. This is going to work perfect as I need the power cord from the trailer to the truck to be less than a foot longer to make the connection. Thanks for the really quick delivery on the perfect fix!! It appears to be very well built.
Marco

by:

Product was exactly as described, and fit the unique need to convert the 7 pole to 7 blade trailer light system. This saved rewiring the vehicle and/or trailer.

by:

This is awesome!! You can't buy the raw parts for what you can buy this adapter for. With my semi truck I can easily supply trailer lights to RV travel trailers and utility trailers. I wish I had know this product existed. I'll be buying several more!

by:

This particular adaptor was not available locally and we needed one on very short notice. The staff at etrailer made sure the product was shipped overnight so we could depart as planned the following day. While many promise good service it would appear etrailer actually has product in stock and works at getting it delivered on time, a combination that is not so common these days.

Thanks

by:

Excellent quality adapter- now can use my 1992 F 350 to pull trailer with 7 blade without rewiring Ford factory receiver 7 pole Extremely pleased. Now both my Ford F 350 can pull cattle trailer.- nice to have back up available.

by:

All of our trucks come wired with round pole trailer plug and some of our trailers take 7 spade style this adapter solves our problem and is cheaper than buying the parts and making them our selves.

by:

This is a well made item and it worked perfectly on my 1933 ford truck !

by:

Works great. I switch my trailer between trucks one has pole plug the other has blades. This made it so much easier than rewriting one vehicle.
Thanks George.

by:

This converter plug and light tester is exactly what we needed for demands of the studio industry that we work in. Allows us to quickly check the trailer light system of our trucks and get them working.
Thanks for a great product.

by:

Exactly what I needed to hook a conventional trailer to our new bucket truck without cutting the wiring up to get rid of the rare 7 pin socket.
