Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Great hitch and very easy install! Took a little over an hour to install this plus the wiring harness by myself. Purchased this to be able to pull my new boat and it does the job. Thanks to Lori there for the help in verifying the correct parts needed.

Still working great! Havent needed to pull anything for lengthy periods but it has held up great when needed. Have a trailer now too so its very handy.

2019 Subaru Ascent

Got this hitch for my 2019 Subaru Ascent. It shouldn't have been listed as a 10/10 difficulty for install. I followed the excellent video by etrailer and got it done in about an hour. After installing at least 4 hitches myself in the past, I would say that this was probably the easiest job because of not having to crawl underneath and bench pressing the hitch up while trying to fish the bolt through. Great design for both the car and hitch!

Arrived super fast. Simple install following a [online] video. We are not car savvy, so I blocked out an afternoon to tackle this but it only took 90 minutes start to finish.

by:
2019 Subaru Ascent

I was a bit hesitant to try this install myself as etrailer rates the install as 10 out of 10 difficulty. However after watching the installation video here on the Website, I felt that it was something I could handle though I struggle at times to even put together Ikea furniture haha

Overall the install took me a little over an hour but I would like to note that I had to go buy another Socket size that was NOT mentioned in the install video and really should be. If I remember right, the socket size not mentioned was for the bolts that etrailer provides for the install of the hitch to the mounts. It's been a few weeks since I did the install, so for the life of me, I can't remember what size it was that I needed to go buy but it was annoying as I went out and purchased the two socket sizes mentioned in the video, so that I would have them, and then found I needed yet another. However, if I wasn't so pleased with how easy this install was, and how happy that I am with the quality and build of this hitch I would have dinged one star for the inconvenience. As it stands, I am happy with the purchase of this hitch for my new Subaru Ascent. Shipping was quick, quality is great and install was pretty easy actually.

by:

Solid product. Very clear and accurate installation instructions customized exactly to my specific vehicle year and model.

Great Hitch Easy Install

Another
great experience from etrailer. Installation video made the process very easy and was spot on. I found it easier to put rear up on ramps for less kneeling. Trim came off easily but having a second person help might be necessary since bumper trim can be a little awkward due to size. Overall it took about an hour.

2020 Subaru Ascent

I have to say this was one experience I do not regret. I was able to find everything I need on etrailer.com that fit my specific vehicle. Additionally, I had no problems installing the draw tight hidden hitch, wiring, and cargo carry due to the easy to follow instructional videos and pdf files. If I had to do this all over again then I would make the exact same choices. I highly recommend the product and retailer.

2020 Subaru Ascent

This Drawtite hitch is a great way to go on the 2020 Subaru Acent. We are very happy how the hitch does not interfere with the spare tire access. Check out the photo to see the ground clearance of the installed bike rack. This was my sixth hitch install from etrailer but even this 10/10 difficulty install was pretty smooth due to the detailed install video. Thank you etrailer!

by:

etrailer got my order processed and shipped. ASAP even amidst the corona virus shutdown!

Everything was intact and got it installed. I love how high the hitch sits on the Ascent - like 23" of ground clearance! Using the OneUp bike rack is going to be awesome with no more worries about ground clearance, even with all 4 trays!

Great setup and great service from etrailer.

by:

I needed a hitch receiver to connect to a hitch style bike rack, and came across the Draw-Tite/Eco-hitch/Curt comparison video online by etrailer.com. That simply helped me narrow down to the one I want. But the best one is their installation video —- very informative and detailed. I wouldn’t have ordered the Draw-Tite hitch and tackled the job myself if not of the video. And this is from someone who had never worked on cars before, except for changing air filter. Saved $ by not having to hire a mechanic. Hitch was quick to ship (shipping to Canada wasn’t cheap, though probably fair for such a huge and heavy item) and good packaging. Watched the step-by-step installation video again, and finished the job in decent time. Solid hitch. Also satisfied with the online shopping experience.

by:

Efficient and timely delivery, perfect customer service (immediate and on-line clarification of my questions.) Very well prepared instruction and installation clip that takes you through step-by-step installation. Well fabricated hitch. I have installed it by myself easily and fit Subaru Ascent 2020, as required. We are going to use for bicycle rake support. See attached two pictures after installation.

by:

Watch the installation video from etrailer.com because they did an excellent job at showing you how easy it is to install. It sits high on the Ascent so there’s a plus and negative about that. The plus is the ground clearance and the negative is putting my bikes on the bike rack with it being so high.

by:

The install videos were key. I was reluctant to remove a bumper and deal with pulling the fascia off. But it was surprisingly easy and this hitch is completely hidden from view unless I need it. Without the solid instruction from etrailer online videos I wouldn't have taken this on. Solid product, shipping was crazy fast, and etrailer staff followed up post purchase. All around I'm happy I went with the transaction and service received.

by:

Let me start this review by Thanking etrailer.com I’ve postponing this job for the last two years because I was going to let a dealership do the job but they were charging me close to a thousand dollars for parts and labor! I did a little bit of research and I saw a video online that etrailer was promoting. I was encouraged to do the job my self considering I have tools of my own. I would recommend anyone who is looking for reliable website.
Thanks again etrailer.com

by:

Bought this with the Tekonsha Custom fit wiring. Easy installation without a struggle & [online video] has a great tutorial on both installations.

by:

This is my 3rd hitch I have purchased from etrailer. I've purchased 3 because I've changed my car 3 times. Shipping is always on point and the installation is easy. I recommend etrailer 100% all the way.

by:

Solid product, bolts straight on. I was quoted $399 for professional installation. I did it myself in a little over an hour. The crux is the bumper cover pop fasteners, and if you have any experience with trim fasteners it should be NBD.

by:
2021 Subaru Ascent

Great Construction of the Hitch. Installation was just as described in the video. As always great service and products from etrailer.

by:

Fast, excellent service, even with shipping delays caused by the public health crisis. The video installation instructions were excellent and very well done. Highly recommend.

by:

Only thing i was worried about was taking the bumper fascia off and that was super easy, the rest of the job to put this on was absolutely amazing.it was so easy to install! Just follow the video thats on the etrailer web site.

by:
2019 Subaru Ascent

The video was very specific to my vehicle, and made installation straightforward. It included some tips I wouldn't have thought of.

by:

Very simple to install. About three ho urs.

by:

Very quick and easy installation without help if you watch the video (A must!)! Fits perfectly and doesn't require special panel tools or any cutting or breaking! Price is very reasonable and shipping was fast and free!

If you have an Ascent with rear splash guards it's slightly more difficult because there is one more panel pin to pop out that is under the guard. I was able to get it by loosening one of the screws in the wheel well and just twisting the guard, then using a flat head screw driver to reach in and pop it out. Getting it back in was a little more difficult, but all in all, still far easier than the previous few hitches I've installed. Another note, like another review mentions, is that there are two tabs that slightly protrude. You can bend these back a little by hand, or just tighten the hitch and it will push them in.

Mine arrived with a handful of chips out of the protective black paint coating, but I'm not too worried about it since it sits up high and is partially protected.

Fantastic! No issues at all!

by:
2019 Subaru Ascent

The hitch is very solid, stronger than the bumper bar that it replaces. It arrived as predicted and went on as predicted, easy for one person. However I found the M10 bolts and nut from Subaru had 17mm heads, but the Etrailer M10 bolts had smaller heads. Enough that they slipped under torque. However they fit a 5/8" socket perfectly. So in addition to your 17mm socket you might want to have a 5/8" handy in case your bolts are also a tad shy. I put an Allen 4 bike rack on mine and it fits snugly.

Its still working fine, but it should be its not a moving part.

by:
2020 Subaru Ascent

The trailer hitch was very easy to install while watching the installation video. The installation instructions say it takes 2 hours, but I was able to get it done in about 45 mins.

I ordered this one because you can install the hitch cover plate back on the vehicle and it's out of sight, which is really nice if you don't want to see the hitch all the time.

After a year, this hitch is still working great, and out of sight when not in use.

I'd recommend going with a concealed option like the # 76253 from Draw-Tite. When the hitch isn't needed, it'll be completely concealed behind the center panel in the rear bumper cover. Many folks don't care for the appearance of a trailer hitch such as the Curt # C13400 which will be fully visible below the rear bumper. • Does The Impact Structure/Bumper Beam Need To Be Removed To Install Hitch on 2019 Subaru Ascent
Yes, both the Draw-Tite hitch part # 76253 and EcoHitch part # 306-X7381 require removal of the impact structure. Since both the Draw-Tite and EcoHitch are concealed cross tube designs the impact structure must be removed to make room for the cross member of the hitch. Curt hitch part # C13400 for the 2019 Subaru Ascent does not require removal of the impact structure because it is installed below the bumper.
