2019 Subaru Ascent 4-Way and Brake Controller Install Kit
Question:
I have a Tekonsha P3 trailer brake controller, that I removed from my 2001 Dodge Dakota. I just purchased a 2019 Subaru Ascent and want to use the P3 to operate the electric brakes on my 1 axle utility trailer. I purchased the Tekonsha 3062-P plug in wiring adapter from you folks hoping this will solve my problem. My Subaru dealer is installing the hitch Monday. I looked up wiring diagrams on your site and it looks like the 4-pole plug that Subaru has will not supply a pole for electric brakes. I been a professional driver for 47 years/ just retired and I really dont want wires hanging out of the back end of my vehicle. What do you suggest? By the way, your website is awesome.

Your 2019 Subaru Ascent should have came with a 7-way installed at the rear of it if it came with the factory towing package. Since you are having a hitch installed currently and looking at wiring you most likely do not have the towing package and would need to install the correct wiring. You have to start with a 4-way for this like the # 118790 as this will be the base for the 7-way conversion needed to install and use the brake controller. Since normally this 4-way kit stores in the rear cargo compartment and comes out of the rear door when needed you might be able to find a grommet in the floor of the Ascent to get it to a 7-way adapter.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the P3 # 90195 brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
