Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Hub and Drum Assembly and Electric Brakes Compatible with Axle Spindle
To determine if we have a hub/drum assembly that will fit your spindle in order to add electric brakes, I need to know the inner and outer bearings on your current assembly. You can remove a hub and the bearing numbers will be printed on the face of both the inner and outer bearings. If you are unable to read the bearing numbers, then you can use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to get the precise measurements of your spindle where the bearings sit. I've attached a photo to assist. If...

We do have a few idler hub assemblies with threaded lug bolt holes currently available, such as the Redline Complete Agricultural Hub Assembly # AH30660FCOMP. The hub bore diameter close to the base of the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 6,000-lb Axles # 42655UC1 is just over 3-1/2". Please note that the hub you're asking about is a lug-centric hub which means it has the studs in place and your wheel slides over those and is secured using lug nuts similar to how you install a vehicle wheel. Since your application calls for hub-centric hubs you probably need something more like the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 6,000-lb Axles #...

  • Can Hub # 42660UC1 Be Converted To Fit a Spindle # TRU57FR?
You are either going to get a different Spindle # TRU57FR or Hub # AH60880FCOMP as there is not a set of bearings and races we carry to make the Hub # 42660UC1 fit on the Spindle # TRU67FR. Since you most likely already have the 6 on 6" wheels and tires it makes the most sense to change to the Spindle # TRU57FR and keep the Hub # 42660UC1.

We do have some idler hubs, without the drums, that fit bearings # 25580 and # LM67048. All of them have a 6 lug bolt pattern. We have two, part # 8-213-5UC1 for standard axles and # 8-213-5UC1-EZ for E-Z Lube axles, that use grease seals 10-10, part # RG06-090 and have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. The other is an agricultural hub and is more likely what fits your mobile home axles. It's a 6 on 6 bolt pattern and uses the same bearings but instead fits a 42385 grease seal, part # GS-2250DL....

  • How to Distinguish Between Agriculture and Standard Trailer Hub
Agricultural hubs, such as the Dexter # 42660UC1, are designed specifically to fit agricultural applications and certain spindle models. These types of hubs are typically used in building or repairing implement wagons, carts or machinery. The spindles that these hubs are designed for are also built for very low speed applications (usually around 20 mph), so the listed weight capacity on these hubs are only rated for these lower speeds. Standard hubs are much more common and what you would...
