Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

4 stars, the image is not of the part that I received. The pic shows the wheel studs supported on the back of the hub. the ones I received they are not supported, however they are Dexter stamped so for now I can only trust that they are the highest quality.

by:

This is the second time the packaging has arrived damaged. The parts are OK this time. The hubs are not packed with enough material to secure them. The last shipment of these parts had a damaged cap and bearing seal. Fortunately, we had some replacements in house to finish our job.

by:

Product was received as ordered. The box with the hubs and spindles was soaking wet and product was exposed. One of the boxes with tire and rim was torn open on the back. No apparent damage to any of the product. Typical UPS delivery.

by:

I saw several poor reviews for etrailer and almost didn't order. Boy, what a mistake that would have been! The whole process couldn't have been better. The order shipped almost immediately and I was sent emails updating me about delivery twice. My hubs arrived in perfect condition and my Chris Craft will be heading to the coast shortly. The price worked for me, and free shipping on my order was a treat. I will have no problem ordering from etrailer in the future.

Had the hubs on the trailer for a year. Unfortunately for me, shortly thereafter I suffered a stroke and just pulled the trailer two weeks ago for the first time. Everything worked fine. I will probably order another as a spare for some long trips.

Great product, bought four of these for my RV upgrade to electric over hydraulic disc brake system. Dexter is the way to go and etrailer is a reliable and reasonable parts resource.

Outstanding

by:

Just what I ordered. Order arrived very quickly! Customer service A+

by:

Hubs arrived in terrible condition. Grease caps are destroyed, many of the bearings are damaged, and the coating is chipped off of the hubs. Would not buy again.

by:

This is a great product from a great company, I received my order and one of my dust caps had a little damage, I sent a message to Carol and I had a replacement in two days, that is great customer service, I highly recommend this product and this company.

by:

The products I received from etrailer were of great quality. Delivery was fast and accurate and will go back to etrailer for future parts for all my projects. Good job guys!

by:

by:

Good guys and Walk you through everything you need to make certain it’s right application......thank you!!

by:

No issues with the product itself. Would of been 5 star if the packing process was quicker and the product was packed better. There was some slight damage due to poor packing.

by:

  • How to Determine Trailer Axle Rating from Axle Diameter and Bearings Used in Hubs
Often an axle's weight rating will appear on a sticker or plate on the axle beam itself, or sometimes the trailer's main identification sticker will include axle ratings. This is helpful unless of course the axles have been replaced during the trailer's lifetime. Axle diameter can get us at least in the right weight capacity neighborhood. An axle with 3-inch diameter typically has a 6K or 7K weight rating. One that is 3-1/2-inches in diameter is usually rated for 8K. In rare instances...

The correct galvanized Dexter 8-213 hub for your 5,200 lb axle is the following: - Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-213-51UC1-EZ If you want to verify you can do so by taking apart your current hub assembly and looking at the bearings themselves; wipe away the...

  • Can I Use a Timbren Axle-Less System on a Boat Trailer That is Used in Salt Water
Yes. Timbren Axle-Less Suspension systems like the # ASR35HDS05 have a thick powder coating on them, so they could be used on a boat trailer that gets submersed into salt water and do just fine. The spindle uses # 15123 outer and # 25580 inner bearings and you'll want to use hubs with either a dacromet plating or a galvanized finish. Yes, you can replace the hub/drum that you have on your trailer with a standard idler hub assembly. In order to determine if the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # 8-213-51UC1-EZ is correct you will need to verify that your spindle uses a 25580 (1.75" inner diameter) inner bearing, a 15123 (1.25" inner diameter) outer bearing, and a GS-2250DL (2.25" inner diameter) grease seal.
