Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

When I received the item the original box and styrofoam were absolutely shredded and dumped into a larger box. I was pretty nervous that I would be missing items but, luckily, everything was in the box and the instructions were clear. It took a while for me to install because I had to buy a ball with a 1" shank (you need a special socket if you want to use a 1 1/4" shank ball which can only be purchased via etrailer which I think is a little shady), but at least the adapter for a 1" ball was in the parts bag. I also had to move an electrical line and the propane tanks which was a hassle, but that has more to do with the design of my trailer than anything else (2021 Hearltand Mallard M27).

The thin walled socket part # EQ70-00-4800 will make it easier to install the hitch ball onto the head of the weight distribution system.

I have no complaints. I took my trailer on quite a few trips last summer and even traveled on days with winds at 20 mph and did not feel any sway. I feel like the hitch takes a lot of the bounce out of bumps and saddles in the road, The hitch and sway control were fairly simple to set up with two people I think it took us an hour or so. The most important thing to consider when installing this yourself is to follow the directions and be sure that you have large enough sockets and wrenches.

This was the best decision regarding towing I could have made. Prior to install my 6500lb boat and tandem trailer was just a bit “Squirrley” and interstate speeds were limited to Under 70mph towing with my 2016 Ram 1500 crew 5 liter hemi.
After moderately simple instal my highway speeds are 75-80mpg, rock solid, and less stressful. I am very, very happy with this product!

Exceeds expectations. The best investment thus far. We were limited to 65mph and had to constantly “hand fly” and correct for every bump and gust of wind. Now we are more relaxed operators running with the rest at 75-80mph, rock solid.

Finally got a chance to put my equipment on the truck trailer. Then I had a chance to use it and man it was a great experience. I was really impressed With installation and control.

by:

This is a great kit for the price. Used this to hitch up my '17 GMC Sierra to my '13 20ft Prowler RBS. Instructions for set-up are clear and simple to understand. First test drive saw noticeable improvement on sway from cross-winds. The RV was not as "twitchy" going down the road at speed(60+MPH). Several long haul trips along the Texas coast almost always have a steady gulf breeze, and this kit helps calm my nerves when towing in the wind.

Only drawback I didn't like was the trailer brackets had to be set to the bottom holes to reach the load bars. It causes low ground clearance (never scraped pavement yet) and sometimes tough to get the loading cheater leverage bar engaged because the handle hits the ground.

Talked to etrailer an the manufacturer both before putrchasing this hitch and both were excellent in helping me to determine if this one was suitable for my application.Due to my Kiefer 3 horse slant trailer frame's design and Kiefer wanting no holes drilled in the frame Fastway's rep helped me with a plan to over come the design by boxing in the angle frame with another section of angle and (using longer bolts in the brackets of the proper grade due to the frame's width) where these hitch brackets were to be installed .Installing these brackets was very quick and easy with the detailed installation directions that came with the hitch.Still need to finish the setup of the hitch with horses and tack loaded but see no problems with the detailed instructions received with the hitch and if any problems I feel confident etrailer or Fastway will give me any help I would need. The shipping was fast and the customer service has been top notch from both etrailer and Fastway.
Thanks,

I am very pleased with the products. I used them to haul my 3 horse trailer to Northwest Colorado and back plus on several other occasions and the performance has been excellent . I would definitely recommend them to people. I was very pleased that someone on your staff steered me in the right direction to find what I needed. Your company is one that I would be glad to recommend to anyone. Thanks for the follow up

So far the hitch works as advertised. It is well worth the money and makes towing a larger camper MUCH easier. The sway bars are not hard to place or remove. For the price I would buy it again.

We have had the weight distribution hitch for one camping season and it worked great. Weve pulled a 6k camper across the state multiple times without issue. Once in place the system is very easy to use and only takes a minimal amount of time to get everything hooked up and on the road. I appreciate the fact that you can back up and turn without having to disengage the sway bars. The system seems like it will continue to do its job for years to come. This is the best priced system out there that gets the job done.

by:

What's not to like. Hitching up is a breeze. It pulls easy with great sway control. I get good gas mileage. I feel very confident when using this hitch.

My hitch is still working great. Easy on. Easy off. Easy towing. I wouldnt use anything else.

by:

I needed a weight distributing hitch to tow a 16' box trailer behind my truck/slide in camper rig, attached with a 48" hitch extension. Initial set up was a breeze. Hitching and unhitching the trailer is straight forward and easy. Weight distribution helps take some of the stress off the trucks suspension and is noticed by reduced suspension air bag pressure. Truth be told, I barely notice the trailer is back there even when loaded with two quad atv's, an Indian Roadmaster and support equipment.

by:

The pole tongue adapter and Fastway E2 hitch work great together. Instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I put it together following the basic setup and it didn't need much adjustment. I could recommend this setup for anyone. Our ice castle has a hydralic frame which you can use to hook the spring bars up. It greatly improved the ride, steering and handling of the rig. I also have a set of Air Lift 1000 in the rear (previously ordered from etrailer). They work great in conjunction with this hitch. And further add adjustability to the setup.

by:

I purchased this weight distribution hitch because the chain weight distribution hitch caused too much sway. Once I ordered the hitch from etrailer which came super fast I have had no issues with sway. In my opinion it is the only way to go and if I had known about this set up before purchasing the chain distribution kit I would have ordered it instead. Very happy and you will be to if you have issues with sway.

by:

Product was exactly has ordered. Instructions were very clear.
I pull a 5000 lbs dry weight toy hauler which I expect to put about 2000 extra pounds of ATV, fuel, water, tools, etc.... on the trailer. My 2018 Chevy 1/2 ton Z71 was rated at 9700 lbs from the factory. My first pull of the trailer was 200 miles with only air bags on the truck. We bounced all the way home with the trailer. After installing the Fastway e2 Wt Dist w Sway Control we no longer have bouncing like before. I did however pull with air in the bags and with NO air in the bags. I feel the truck rode much better with air in the bags, but the best part is I had no bound with or without air in the bags. If I had bough the hitch first I would not have bought the air bags.

by:

Product is good - heavy. Instruction book leaves something to desire. Makes reference to Spacer Washers but has no picture of where they go. Not enough pics to understand all parts. Have not used product yet but seems very high quality. BTW delivery was awful! Came 5 days after it was stated to be delivered. Big brown co did awful job. Too bad etrailer can't use FX. They are soooo much better. I won't order anything else because of delivery mess.

The washers act as a fine adjustment for the tilt of the weight distribution head. The more washers added to the stud, the further rearward the head tilts. If you use the provided link, you can see an install/set-up video that will walk you through the process.

by:

What a game changer! Evens the load out and takes the bouncing and swaying out of towing my camper! Easy to add and remove sway bars! Just remember to remove them before backing in on a hard twist if you intend to drop your trailer. It will make that process a lot simpler!

by:

This system works great for me. I have a Nissan Frontier and 21 foot TT. If you install this yourself make sure you watch every video and then follow the written instructions provided. You cant go wrong. This leveled my truck out and planted the front wheels firmly back on the ground. One word of warning. If you are parking your trailer on an incline and the truck and trailer aren't level move to a level spot, remove the bars and then back it in. Just makes getting the bars off easier.

by:

John was very patient and helpful, made me feel confrable as I know nothing about these hitches. He worked diligently making sure I ordered the best set up for my truck and trailer combination including measurements (he told me were and what to measure as I was actually measuring).
I was assured that I was receiving a good price as E trailers "price match" and I purchased a quality hitch assembly at a wonderful price. Free delivery was a great perk and the hitch arrived in a couple days as predicted.
I have a 2003 Excursion Limited 7.3 diesel 4x4 and need to pull a loaded 28ft car trailer. The young weight is over 800 PDS and I want to be confident that it will be safe.

John was an integral part of my purchase and the follow up and technical help is great!
Thanks for all the John W

Product arrived very fast and was easy to install per instructions. I am using this on a 27' enclosed snowmobile trailer and using my 2007 Chevy 1/2 ton crew cab to pull it. There is a noticeable difference in how my tow vehicle sits and I feel like I have more control with the high profile trailer. This hitch is very sturdy. Using it is a very fast and simple process. I am happy with the product thus far.

by:

etrailer does a fantastic job. I received this hitch in a box that was badly damaged by a shipping company. Some hardware was missing, but etrailer immediately sent me replacements for the items that were missing. Great hitch, great job by etrailer.

by:

This product made towing my trailer much more safe and easy to tow. We tow close to our weight limit once our vehicle and trailer are loaded, so having this product really increases my confidence driving such a heavy load. The install took a while but I was able to do it myself, and now hooking it up takes only a few minutes.

by:

Great hitch. Installation was easy and instructions were written in a manner that made sense. Parts are heavy duty. My vehicle /trailer combo pull much nicer now. After the first install it will only add a minute or so to your hitching process to install the spring bars. I also haven’t had to remove the bars to park the trailer even with tight turns.

by:

by:

The hitch has worked great for the most part, really stabilizes the trailer. The bolted parts on the hitch move a bit which is annoying but overall I'm very happy with the product

by:

Great value, easy installation. I towed a 10,500# trailer 2100 miles across the country and the hitch performed well!

by:
