Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

I have used this hitch on two different tow vehicles with excellent results for the last year.
The hitch was very easy to install on a enclosed utility trailer by following the manufacturer's directions and viewing the etrailer videos.
I have used this hitch on both vehicles with widely varying loads on the trailer.
The adjustments are very easy to make. I use a tongue weight scale to make sure the load is distributed such that I get a tongue weight that is 10% to 15% of the trailer weight.
My average trip with this hitch and the trailer is 900 miles.

Customer service is awesome. Came missing parts and had the replacement parts and then some in a couple days. Great product dramatically improved the pull and reduced sway on my 20ft travel trailer. Well worth it for comfort on the pull along with enhanced safety to boot.

Perfect for our 3500lb GVWR trailer, which is a single axle 14ft trailer with a ramp. We’ve hauled firewood, metal shelving for a brewery, two touring motorcycles, and a Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 weighing in at 2k lbs…all with a 2019 Honda Odyssey (which is now sadly gone due to someone colliding into it in a snowstorm). This WDH leveled all loads and the van while making towing seem easy with our van.

We now have a Lincoln Navigator, which pulls a 3500lb trailer like it’s nothing, but I still use the WDH (with only a single washer) primarily for the sway control. Our Ranger tends to act as a sail in side winds and this wonderful hitch handles those without issue.

Great product, easy to install, works just like anyone could hope. I highly recommend it!

I have a very small and light trailer (GAWR 2950 lbs.) so finding the right weight distribution system was a challenge. There were only one or two available. I think I chose this one because it had sway control as part of the WD design and does not have to be disconnected in order to back up. It has worked well for me on 2000 mile and 7000 mile trips. There is one thing however that came up. On two or three occasions, I found after a day of travel that the brackets that attach to the trailer frame had been pulled forward or pushed backward by the friction of the spring bars. I finally realized that when attaching or repositioning them, the bolts need to be much tighter that I originally thought was sufficient to secure them and resist movement. so keep that in mind.

Still some movement from friction. Im hesitant to tighten it full, because The bolts feel soft and I dont want to risk stripping them on the road. I think Ill replace them with stronger bolts, then I wont have to worry about really tightening them.

This system has made a huge difference in towing my pop-up trailer with my 4Runner! It improved handling and made the trailer feel really stable even at interstate speeds!

by:

Bought this primarily because it was much closer in load rating to my needs than the much heavier duty units mostly available. I'm pulling an Aliner with relatively high tongue weight (for that class)
behind a lifted Jeep. Without a leveler the Jeep was nose-up by an inch under load, exacerbated by a slight noise up stance unloaded.

Set it up yesterday and it went smoothly. Preliminary verdict is that it does level the jeep, back to within a 1/4" of the unloaded stance. Have yet to really put to the test with a fully loaded camping trip, so some adjustment may be necessary, but this is surely an improvement.

The anti sway benefits are yet to be seen. My preliminary trip from VA to TX before I installed any leveler or anti-sway did not show any real evidence of sway, and just by design I expect this kit to improve stability. No issue with backing was noticed with this unit installed.

Reasons for four and not five stars:
- torque ratings for all bolts are not provided with the kit. Notably missing are for the bolts that clamp to the trailer frame. Instructions reference proper use of a torque wrench in this section but don't provide a target
- price is substantially higher than for some heavier kits

After a year in still quite happy with this kit. Towing has been straightforward and I dont feel like Im pulling a wheelie despite the heavy tongue weight. There is additional setup time but weve got it down such that its only a few minutes, and the benefits while driving are easily worth it.

by:

Awesome item! After following the set-up video we have had no issues with this WD set-up. I have to look in the rearview mirror to know the camper is behind me! This set up keeps the camper tracking true and straight on the road, I hardly notice when big rigs pass by and being able to back the camper without having to disconnect anything is awesome. My wife and I hook up the camper with this system quite easily! Highly recommend!

This WD system is still working great! We got a new tow vehicle and adjustments were easy to do to make it work! The anti-sway control and WD give my wife confidence to drive our rig!

by:

I understand this is a lightweight WDH kit, but the quality of some arts is questionable. The shank bolts need to be torqued to 130 lb ft, but the flat washers are not up the job, cupping badly. Also, the plating on the shank bolts and nuts started discoloring and corroding within a few hours of getting rained on. In contrast my Eaz-i-lift WDH hardware is heavy-duty and yellow zinc plated and looks good after several years of use. It's hard to trust a $50k trailer to this thing.

by:

Packaged arrived early and item was exactly what I ordered. The weight distribution hitch will level out my tow vehicle and trailer so I can get down the road safely.

Installed easily and works as advertised. Took time setting it up and made adjustments as needed to get it just right for my application. Recommend it.

We have a 2018 Chevy Colorado and will be towing a 16’ Scamp trailer. After looking at all the applicable weights for this combination, combined with our checking in with other Scamp owners in two separate owner groups that we are belong to, we decided that we needed a WDH.
This is my first experience with such a hitch and am about 3/4 of the way thru the installation process. From everything that I see so far, it is a very well made hitch. The fit/finish is good and the hardware is all there, the instructions are well written and easy to follow. In addition, Fastway has a comprehensive video on YT that further explains the process.
I have yet to tow with it, so that will be the ultimate test. Should my opinions change, I will update my review.
I would add that while this is my first hitch, it is my third purchase from etrailer in so many months. As with my first two purchase, this was a top-shelf experience with these people.
I strongly recommend etrailer.

by:

This is a VERY good losd leveling anti sway system. The video provided by etrailer mzde the set up and installation very easy. I can't imagine towing our trailer without this product. I saw this hitch setup at a campground and was convinced this was the best product for my use.

by:

Sturdy design, quality finish, able to setup and install myself. We have a four door Jeep Wrangler pulling a 17' foot pop up with 270 lbs. hitch weight. The Fastway e2 allows us to raise the ball height, level the vehicle, and provide stabilization.

by:

Installed on a T&B camper trailer being towed by a Mazda CX5. Is a fairly straightforward install as long as you follow the well-written directions carefully. Being slow and methodical it took me all afternoon. On a test drive it seems to tow well.

Note that the removable hitch is fairly heavy (weight-wise) and requires some creativity on where and how to store it when not in use (I keep it in the trailer or the house, not in the car).

by:

The 450 WD sway control has worked well on my Honda Odyssey this past year, for pulling 2000 lb 17 ft trailer. The Odyssey has a soft, low suspension. So having a lighter weight system is very helpful. No problems with semis whisking past on the interstate, or with wind, hills, or steep driveways.

by:

Just finished installation of the Fastway WDH on my Rpod 180 (approx 3200 lbs loaded) with my TV, Lexus RX350! I had a mechanic/camping friend do the installation. Pleased with everything so far - did a test ride and definitely feel (I think) a difference, TV feels more solid, not as bouncy and had zero sway when the tractor trailer passed us on the highway. I had numerous people in the camping/RV industry tell me I don't need a WDH but after extensive research, I think this will make a huge difference on towability and safety. I'm going to finish my analysis with another trip to the scales. Customer support at etrailer was awesome, great service, answered questions and very helpful.

by:

Towed an r-pod 178 all over the country with my small truck using this and I wouldn't use anything else. Eliminated rear end sag, and even in heavy wind everything was super stable. Installation was simple but takes some time. Be sure to have loads in trailer and truck similar to what you'll normally be using. Also, I had no issues with noise like some say is a drawback of this style.

Everything was good except the box was damaged and had a big hole in it.

This hitch is amazing everytime I use it.

by:

I ordered to product to use with my Grand Caravan, to pull a large pop-up camper. The hitch was easy to install, and easy to use. Part of what makes this hitch great, is that you can leave it on while you backup the camper.

by:

Great weight distribution system, 1 L bracket brook after a couple weeks but got replaced for free with a spare one

by:

Still loving this hitch. I have a bigger truck to pull the camper. A Tundra in place of the Tacoma. It is easily adjusted to the new vehicle and. Does a great job of stabilizing my camper.

by:

The product itself is great, does exactly what it is supposed to do, my truck drives perfectly now with this weight distribution system on it. The only complaint is the instruction manual, it is awful!! Had to follow a Fastway video to install, the manual is written horribly.

by:

Easy to setup, and works great!

by:

Good product. Works as advertised. The weld radius on one side is not too clean, making it difficult to secure the riser bar with the 90-deg pin.

by:

The instructions are clear and installation went without any problems Appears to do its job on the test run so far.

by:

Used this set up to pull my Tab320 with my Lexus RX350 from CA to WA. And then multiple trips afterwards. It was well worth it. STABLE.

  • Is Disengaging and Engaging Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System Easy
Basically you'd have to just remove the spring bars of the Fastway e2 kit part # FA92-00-0450 to disengage it which would not be overly difficult at all. They have to be removed/installed everytime the trailer is used anyway so you'd just be delaying installing the bars until the trailer is loaded.
