Why Cant You Back Up when Using Pro Series Weight Distribution System
Question:
2013 Ram 1500. I see it says backing up not possible. Why can you not back up a trailer/camper with this hitch? And how does one go about it if necessary for say back in camp site parking? Seems a pretty common thing, backing up.

It is the friction sway control bar in Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW Item 49902 that will prevent backing up. The problem is that when backing up force is applied differently to the sway control bar so that when turning and backing up it can damage to it or the trailer. All you would have to do though is disengage the sway control bar when you are ready to back up.
Weight distribution systems with friction sway control bars like this are pretty much the only systems that have this restriction. What I recommend, to avoid having to get out and disengage the sway control bar, is to go with Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item # FA94-00-1000. It has friction sway control but it is built into the system so backing up is not a problem. I have linked a video review of this system for you.
The only other part needed with the Fastway system is a properly sized ball such as # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. I have also included some links on determining tongue weight and weight distribution for you.
