n/an/a

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Unique Features of Blue Ox SwayPro

Blue Ox SwayPro Rotating Latch Brackets

Other weight distribution systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. With the SwayPro, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Another feature of the SwayPro is the easy-to-use head. The required pitch is already built into the head, so the only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed, which means no hard-to-access washers or difficult-to-use thumbscrew.

Built-In Tension Stops Sway

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The SwayPro offers four points of built-in sway control. Within the head assembly, the trunnions are designed to hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer in line. At the other end of this weight distribution system, the rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible. In addition, the basic design of the brackets keeps much of the length of the lift chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. So each chain is held more stable than in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed. This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side. Furthermore, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage the system.

Haven’t done a long trip to compare away control. Just installed. Cons first: On an Airstream Globetrotter 25 FBT, it is impossible to get a socket in between the A frame and the battery box to use a torque wrench to measure 40 lbs when tightening the jam bolt. Plus it’s a square bolt head. But it’s only 40 lbs, so we hand tightened hard. Also, when tightening the jam bolt, the chain latch thingy (I’m tired. It’s hot out there!) moved a bit so either hang onto it really well or move it a bit before tightening down and it will move right back to its 29 inch place.

Now the pros: The whole assembly weighs far less than the equalizer we replaced. Installation was easier. No washers so once the hitch head height was determined, we only had to torque once. If we need to adjust weight distribution, we move the chain. My husband compared the two installations like this: “This was junior high math while the equalizer was like college calculus."
And, FWIW, the front and rear end difference in height for our truck and trailer was way more accurate than we could get with the equalizer. Well, maybe we could have, but we would have had to adjust the hitch head and the washers.
The cherry on top was that it was very quiet turning and backing up.

Shipped as promised. Came with everything. Installed per excellent instructions.
Works very well on 21 chevy tahoe towing 6000lb 25 ft travel trailer.
Works as advertised. Havnt been in crosswinds, but trucks passing and meeting, hitch has good control. Load leveling works excellent.

After a year, Ive pulled the 30 ft, 7000 lb trailer 10,000 miles using this hitch. It seems to improve the sway control the more it gets broke in. You can feel the hitch working in the heavy crosswinds and truck winds backing up is no problem with this hitch. Doesnt do the loud popping sounds my other hitches made backing up. I run around 70 mph most of the time, the hitch allows me to drive one handed, unless it is . The ease of hook up and unhooking is amazing compared to the others Ive owned. The quality of construction and materials is excellent. Keep the 2 grease points greased.

I love this hitch. So I did a lot of research online A lot of people complained about their Weight Distribution Hitch(WDH) making noise or hard to install. This hitch went to Yellowstone with me (about 38 hr drive each way) with 7k cargo. Worked perfectly. The only time it made any noises is when I had to turn a tight turn. We all know WDH do not like tight turns. This one is no exception but when I say tight, I mean where the trailer tongue is inches from my bumper. It helped with sway. And it def put the weight on the front. Easy install (def watch some videos) and I recently took it off and installed on new trailer. Easy swap. Be warned. Hold that lug bar with both hands when tightening the bars. Do not allow that thing to slip. I broke my arm and was trying to use the bar. Dumb move on my part.

Love the ease of connecting truck to the trailer and peace of mind as I travel knowing I can trust my Blue Ox hitch no matter the conditions

I have used my Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item #BXW1000 now for the past year towing our Airstream 27FB with a Ford F150 over 5000 miles and six weeks of road trips.

For comparison, I had used Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control hitches on three prior travel trailers over eight years - including a prior 27FB.

For comparable levels of weight distribution, I have found:
1. The sway control with the Blue Ox is more of a dampening of sway - making it tolerable, while the Reese seemed to eliminate the sway from starting in the first place. A noticeable difference with crosswinds and passing semis at highway speeds.
2. Tightening and loosening the torsion bars with the supplied wrench and rotating cam of the Blue Ox is more stressful and unpredictable than using the lever pipe and lift bracket for the cam of the Reese. I bought a longer torsion bar and socket to replace the supplied wrench which helps (see photo).
3. While the Reese torsion bars and cams require routine topical application of grease, the Blue Ox torsion bar swivel attachments (see photo) require a grease gun to keep lubricated which is a nuisance.
4. Routine wear on the paint of the Blue Ox cam (see photo) adds rust as a maintenance problem that I didn't have with the Reese systems.

by:

I love the blue ox, although the bars were beginning to show rust really from the time they arrived.

by:

Sway hitch works great. I needed something low profile as I put a toolbox on top of A-Frame (Had to use a small spacer. Product works great. Love ordering from etrailer. Great customer service!

by:

Good quality product. You can still have noticeable sway if you don't set up correctly for your rig. Make sure your hitch ball height is set up for the trailer to tow level and not tilting down in the front or rear.

by:

Can be difficult to hook up the chains. Is very noisy, makes lots of popping and clanking noises when moving. Will not totally level out my Ram pickup. Would probably not purchase again.

by:

Let me start off by saying why I wanted sway control. My first trip up Oregon's I5 between Eugene and Portland with my 28' Komfort Lite trailer in a moderate cross breeze, lots of semi's and fast traffic. Not a good first time experience, slowed from 60mph to 50mph to make it tolerable for me. Saw other trailers zoom by me at much faster speeds and looked to be pretty solid-no sway.
Had no clue which system to choose, so I looked at all that was available on the site. Many looked very complex and the reviews on each were mostly positive. So, I choose to go simple with the Blue Ox, easy 20 min bolt on. Did have to make a 1/2" adjustment on the latch brackets, as per the instructions, to have the chains straight up and down.
I haven't been on the road yet, but my initial hook up attempt has highlighted a couple of issues.
First, with all the tongue weight on the TV, there is no way you will be able to attach the chain where you want it. No biggie, as with the old system, just use the tongue jack to raise everything up until you can get to the link you want. Had to go higher than I was used to, but still OK.
Second, when unhooking (again, with weight on tongue jack), knuckles come very close to the spring bar on one side. Don't get distracted when rotating the latch to release the chain! Also, the chain wants to "snap" out of the slot at some point when rotating. I may want to retire the supplied wrench and go with a socket, short extension, and breaker bar just to keep my hands away from these potential hazards.
As always, the ordering process was great. Helps a lot when everybody understands what you are trying to do, then convey what you need.

Hitch is doing its job! Semis arent an issue anymore so Im more relaxed when towing. Those big delivery box trucks have more of an effect than semis, but no problem. Happy I got this hitch.

Great product! Exactly what I was looking for to use with my hitch extension for my boat trail and camper set up.

Excellent! This is exactly what I needed to help with the tongue weight of my boat trailer. This product takes the worry out of towing with the extended trailer hitch due to the camper on the truck.

by:

I have been installing the hitch and the 26000 lb 2&5/16" ball that I ordered. All went well until I tried to install the ball which has a 1& 7/8" nut which requires a socket to tighten the nut in the hitch enclosure. Not having that size socket I could not find one that size in the local retail stores. I have resorted to buying an Altrade socket on line from Home Depot for $14. Hopefully it will fit in side the hitch nut enclosure.

I bought the blue ox weight distribution hitch as an upgrade from my original weight distribution hitch that I purchased from Harbor freight. What a difference!

Game Changer. I love my Blue Ox WDH. It has worked flawlessly since I purchased and installed it on my trailer. I have towed my 30 foot travel trailer in all kinds of weather including windy conditions and the hitch works great. I used to tow a 22 foot travel trailer with a Harbor Freight WDH, and that trailer would sway without an additional and noisy anti sway bar. The Blue Ox doesnt need one, and even though my new trailer is 8 feet longer, it does not sway much at all. Not only does it keep my 8500 lb trailer straight, it is easy to hook up. I dont dread hooking up like I used to.

by:

I specifically asked what bars to buy and answered questions about dry weight, tongue weight and max trailer weight. I was steered to 1000 lb bars even though that was not even 10% of max trailer weight when 12-15% of max weight is the typical range for tongue weight. I ended up replacing with the next step which was 1500 lb bars. You gave me the wrong answer and it cot me another set of bars and left me no way of recovering what I spent for wrong bars. Bad advice=bad customer service. The only reaso I gave 2 stars is you delivered on time to my rv dealer as instructed.

Depending on the total tongue weight of the trailer you will want to a weight distribution system where your trailers loaded and unloaded weight will fall into the range of the bars. This system has a tongue weight range of 750 lbs - 1,000 lbs. The next system up will be part number part # BXW1500 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs.

The hitch was delivered in just a few days, earlier than expected. The hitch was exactly as described. The dealership attached the hitch to our Keystone Outback 298RE and Excursion without any problem. Our trip from Ohio to Colorado went without incident even though we traveled through wind, rain and snow. Hooking up the trailer with the SwayPro was no problem and very easy to use.

What is your tongue weight on the blue ox ? I have a Keystone outback 277RL 35 feet and looking at a blue ox 1500 tw and wondering if this the proper one to buy.

by:

The Sway control hitch works well and controls sway. The design of the sway bar connection and tightening bar handle works really well! The metal paint does not cover and protect from rust. I will have to scrape rust and repaint. Not happy about that.

by:

Super fast ordering and service plus lots of info and help to make sure I ordered the right product. This Blue Ox hitch is easy to install and setup since the head is preset. I’m looking forward to a grease free tow setup thanks to the enclosed bearings with zerk fittings - no exposed grease.

1yr review. First off Amy with customer support was extremely helpful with making sure I picked the correct product and to get it to me in a timely manner. Now for the product The BlueOx unit has been great, the hitch is a little heavy for some people but it is manageable, the installation was a breeze with clear instructions (video) and took about an hour with a quick trip to rent a torque wrench to tighten to spec and have my local dealership install the ball to avoid the cost of another socket. Setting the correct chain tension is a trial and error process based on your vehicle and trailer weight, I have two different settings based on it I’m carrying fresh water or not. Using the cam tension system can take some force to tighten but lift the tongue more it will help alleviate this but my wife does struggle with it when she hooks up (Don’t get hurt when camping). As for pulling it keeps the trailer on track (I pull a 33’ TT) provided you have good tension on the bars of it sways a bit take up another link. The unit is quite so no popping or cracking (like most) and you can back the unit in without disconnecting. The unit has held up to the Arizona weather and still looks like new except for the nuts welded to the tensioner where the wrench connects has some surface rust and wear. Overall this is a great product I like that additional parts can be purchased separately for additional trailer uses or upgrade for new trailers. My only complaint would be the amount of force needed to set the cam tensioners.

Using with a 27 foot Lance trailer and 2015 Jeep grand Cherokee.
Shipping and packing from e trailer great.
Hitch well made and easy to install. Replacing a Reese weight distribution hitch w/sway control that wasn't up to the job. Blue Ox controls sway well and tows much more smoothly-vibrations with old hitch eliminated.
Only dissatisfaction is with the paint. Several nicks/chips in the paint as delivered and over time some rusting of the latch mechanisms. Called Blue Ox-they said no touch up paint available. Used some Rustoleum that somewhat matches the texture and color. Would really like some OE paint from Blue Ox!

by:

I purchased this weight distribution hitch to tow my 24 ft enclosed car trailer. The weight distribution and sway control are great. I also really like that the leveling bars do not have grease on them. I like the thought look of the powder coating. I am disappointed with the corrosion protection of the trailer attachment and the hitch. They started showing sign of corrosion quickly. The hitch was only left out in the rain for a day or two and it showed signs of corrosion.

by:

I had a question about a "used" version of the BXW1000, so I jumped on the chat with customer service and they were able to answer my questions about what "used" was considered (in this case, damaged packaging/cosmetic defects, nothing structural and the hitch was not used and returned used for resale).

I also asked if all the parts would be in the box, and of course the answer was yes.

I recieved the hitch in very short order (and I received order/shipping updates). The outer box had a good amount of clear packaging tape, but was intact. Upon inspection, the hitch looked (as it was) brand new, and the only blemish I noticed was some overspray from the paint in two of the threaded bolt holes, which was easily removed with a small screwdriver.

Thanks to etrailer for a very smooth ordering/shipping process and to your excellent customer service representatives!

-Jim

It worksgreat! I really like the customer service at etrailer. They help you get the parts you need and are fair if you need to send them back or exchange.

I have this stetup on my 2020 f-250 and 2021 keystone outback 210urs (5000lbs with around 500lb younger weight)
I’ve never towed the trailer without the bars on but I can say that the ride is smooth. On a smooth highway I have gone 70+mph for short periods to pass and it feels totally smooth and safe.

You don’t need these bars with a 3/4 ton Truck but it makes the ride more balanced and keeps you truck bed more level and I think that improves safety. It takes around 20% of the load off you tow hitch.

I ordered this before I received my trailer and had to return the chain and bar portion for the next size up because I ended up with a heavier trailer. Because of the delays from the factory. etrailer helped me out the whole way and only charged me shipping.

This is a no brainer! Get this hitch your suspension will thank you and buy from etrailer they are better at customer service than a brick and mortar store. Plus they have a huge inventory.

After a year and thousands of miles later, this Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution system has worked flawlessly! We pull a about seventy-two hundred pound trailer with it in all kinds of weather conditions without worrying about “tail whipping”. The truck and trailer sits solidly level every time we hook up. The chains lock cam makes it a breeze to use, even my wife can do it while l’m taking care of other things. The design and construction are spot on. This is our third trailer and weight distribution system, and it is by far the best. It is so nice to be able to back up without having to remember to loosen a sway control arm! We highly recommend it!!!

by:

Have owned this hitch for a year now, used it probably 10 times including a 700 mile trip to the mountains. No complaints at all. Pulling a 32 ft Coleman, about 7500 lbs with a 2011 F250 power stroke.

by:

After owning a couple other hitches including a Hensley the Blue Ox distribution hitch is my favorite and probably the only hitch I will own. Hooking up is easy enough however I would suggest using a socket attached to a break-over bar rather than the supplied wrench (just my opinion). I pull a 30ft Classic Airstream with a 3/4 ton HD Chevy Duramax and the Blue Ox with this combination is excellent. The only negative thing I have found about the hitch is over time it tends to get a little rust here and there so keep wiped down or touched up with similar paint.

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution item # BXW1000 weighs 90 lbs. It works with trailers have tongue weights between 750...

  • Appropriate Chain Setting on the Blue Ox Sway Pro
The mention of the 9th link on the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control part # BXW1000 if referring to the very last link furthest away from the spring bar. • Will Suspension Enhancement Be Needed with Weight Distribution to Level Trailer
If a weight distribution system is properly rated and set up for the tongue weight of the setup an air bag system is not going to be needed. It sounds like your setup needs more spring bar tension as long as your loaded tongue weight is under 1,000 lbs like the part # BXW1000 that you referenced. • Can Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System be Reversed with
Hey Mike, backing up with a Blue Ox weight distribution system like the part # BXW1000 can be done but you have to make sure you are basically only backing up in a straight line with minimal turning as it can damage the spring bars. The limit to how far you can turn would be the same angle you can go when moving forward with the steering wheel turned sharply if that makes sense.
