7-Way Molded Trailer End with 6' Cable - HD Blue Insulated - 54006-009

Love the flexibility of the cord in cold weather. But where the cord connects to the plug, that has seperated. Still working, but do not know how long it will last.

by:

The bargman 7 way moulded trailer end is a high quality unit. I have been using it for a year now and it has performed flawlessly. The sturdy moulded plug ensures no moisture can get inside. Both the insulation of the individual wires and also the outer sheath are made of silicone and remain flexible even at canadian winter temperatures. There is just one way I think the unit could be improved. The outer blue silicone coating is thin, and not very abrasion resistant. If it contacts the grouns at all, it will quickly wear through. Just a little thicker sheath would be nice.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase, and would certainly purchase again

4.5 Star

Really like it as it's
the first tail with properly sized brake, batt charge, & ground wire.

Only slight negative.
Silicone jacket was quite attractive, but in reality it's rather thin and not bonded tightly to the bundle (it wrinkles up easily when bending back over the end of the tongue when not in use. Will see how it holds up over longer term.

That said, the blade connections are holding up well after a year (w/no loss in conductivity due to some alloy coating & associated fretting/corrosion as some other pigtails do)
Did apply some high quality dielectric upon installation.

Holding up well - in spite of appearing unusually thin outer insulation. Properly gauged brake, charge, & ground remains an outstanding choice.

Aside from some minor mounting issues because the bracket DOES NOT fit the plug assemble it is a great product. Used as a 60 amp battery plug on my dump trailer. Took care of my dead battery issues. Can't beat E-Trailer...…Great customer service.

Plug has served very well. Used as a high output charging plug for a dump trailer. Still nice and tight, holding up really well to lite commercial use.

by:

Converted my car trailer from surge brakes to electric
Used this pigtail and it worked out perfect

A year in and this has worked great. My old pigtail was pretty nasty as the trailer used to be a rental trailer so it received abuse and there was no pride of ownership as if it were your own. was of good quality and has held up perfect

by:

Use on a boat trailer. Wish I would have found this years ago. I have lost count of the trailer connectors I have replaced over the years, the ones that you have to connect the wires inside the plug. They just got rusty and quite working. I used the junction box and mounted it higher so it would stay dry. I also put the battery in a small water proof ammo box, keeps dry and lasts a lot longer.

by:

Good length and cord is supple.
Definitely
recommended for anyone looking to upgrade or replace trailer cord.

Robert

Still good as new! Fits tight and cord is still supple.

by:

It's the nicest. heaviest built harness on the market with heavy gauge wire and the best part is its sealed from elements and only harness I buy, wish more suppliers carried it.

by:

etrailer as come through again. Excellent product. As alway's etrailer delivered on time. I am very happy with this company. Thank's Again trailer. Randy.

It’s working just fine. Great dependable product. Almost as great as the company that sold it to me. etrailer came through again!

by:

The flexibility of the cable is wonderful in cold temps; just what we were wanting. However, the plug end doesn’t really engage well (stay put) with the receptacles on our vehicles. But, I’d still buy more just to have the super flexible wiring.

by:

I have bought a couple of 7 pin trailer pig tails and a junction box. Everything has been shipped promptly and very well made. I'll be getting all my trailer parts from etrailer. Great people to do business with

by:

Purchased for my snowmobile trailer. This is a great wire that stays flexible in the cold weather.

by:

Meets the needs of most hitch trailer connections. Used throughout our farm. Good service and followup.

The wiring was all wrong! Had to trace every wire to see where it was going on the whip

The color coding on the 54006-009 trailer connector cable may be different than the cable it replaces, which is why we list which wire color feeds which circuit. This information is on the product page above.

by:

Great product. Well built and will work mu by car trailer.

by:

Great product, purchased this on a -18 F degree day when my non-arctic rated harness sheath snapped. This one is very flexible even in the really cold temps.

by:

I looked everywhere to find a plug that was not made of cheap soft plastic. One that would not be so stiff in cold weather that it works itself lose.
This plug is a high quality and will remain flexable in cold weather.

by:

Great product at a reasonable price. Fast shipping. Very happy. Better connection than standard plugs plus not stiff in the winter time.

Ken

  • Troubleshooting New Electric Drum Brakes on Utility Trailer That Do Not Engage with GMC Controller
Since your 2010 GMC Sierra's factory-installed brake controller is properly engaging the brakes on your RV trailer we can start out troubleshooting by checking on the utility trailer's wiring since this is newly installed. The easiest way to test the brakes on the trailer is to do so independently of the truck. You can do this by disconnecting the truck/trailer connectors and applying 12V power and ground directly to the contacts on the trailer's plug. Please refer to the linked photo...

  • How Do I Determine Which Functions Are Which On Trailer Wiring
The only true way to determine the function of a wire or pin on a 7 way plug is to test it using a circuit tester like the Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979; unfortunately colors are not standard or a reliable way to determine function. If you're going to be adding a new 7 way connector like the 7-Way Molded Trailer End # 54006-009 to your trailer, you'll want to connect each wire to a battery and ground to determine which function is activated when power is supplied. • 8 Foot Long 7-Way Trailer Connector for Dump Trailer
7-Way trailer connectors have a male and a female side and the male installs on the trailer side and the female on the tow vehicle. That's why you are seeing them labelled differently. The part # 54006-009 is a trailer side 7-way like it sounds like you need but is a bit short. For an 8 foot section instead you'd want the Hopkins 7-Way part # H20046 which is an 8 foot long 7-way like you need.

A Bargman 7-Way Molded Trailer End Connector like the 6' # 54006-009 or your 8 foot won't necessarily have the same wiring colors. They could very well be different so you'll want to test to be sure, and the easiest way to do this is by using a circuit tester: - Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979 The easiest way is just to connect the trailer and your tow vehicle, and use the # PTW2979 to test the wires on the trailer at the junction box while someone activates the functions. • 7-Way Bargmann RV Wiring Harness for Trailer Side
Molded 7-way trailer connectors like the Bargman # 54006-009 always have the copper because of its electrical connection properties. The way to keep them from corrosion over time is to use dielectric grease # 11755. This keeps moisture, dirt, and debris out of your connections that can lead to corrosion. This grease actually assists in the electrical connections as well, so it is a help in both ways.

  • Identifying Type of Brake Wire and Connectors Used on Trailer Brakes
The wire is likely just a version of automotive wire that is made more rigid so that it is easier to route it through tight spaces. Or it could be shielded wire or even cross-link wire. If you need some wire for electric brakes you can use # 10-1-1. The connector sounds like it might be a quick splice connector such as # SWC501915-1 also known as a Scotch Lock which is the 3M name brand.

The difference is the color coding of the wire functions for the two 7-way kits part # 54006-057 and # 54006-009 that you referenced. The part # 54006-009 is going to have the wiring colors that are most common on trailers with 7-ways whereas the # 54006-057 uses a color coding that closer resembles a 4-way with additional functions added on beyond the 4 circuits. Functionally they are the exact same though.

The double-wipe design, as Bargman calls is, makes it more difficult for the blades to fit in but once I got them together and the hook secured in place the connection was solid.
