Video Transcript for Bargman 7-Way Molded Connector Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable. Also available in a 10, 18, and 22 feet length. Here's what our cable looks like installed. Now the main reason your going to need a new cable like this one is because if you didn't adequately have the slack tied up when your towing your trailer, it can drag on the ground, causing abrasion, causing a short and it won't work properly anymore.Hooking up to our tow vehicle is as simple as lifting our door, making sure the notch on our cable faces up to push it in. And then the latch on the door will grab the tab and hold it in place. So you don't have to worry about it getting pulled out.

Well, one thing that's nice about this connector, compared to others on the market, is that when we need to unplug from our truck, we have these nice finger tabs here to get an easy grip on it, as we pull out.Now one thing that sets this cable apart from others in the market, is where the end of our cable meets our seven way connector, right here. It's molded together. And this will prevent moisture from getting inside, offering a superior weather resistance, and we don't have to worry about corrosion happening where the wires are connected to our terminals inside the connector. This will cause better electrical performance over the course of time. This thick insulation will provide protection from the elements, and also will help protect it from abrasion if it we're to rub against something. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed.

We need to locate the junction box where our wiring connections are made. In our particular case, this is our junction box in our trailer. You'll typically find this near the front. Remove the lid. We'll now remove the nuts on all of our terminals, that hold our wires in place.

Now in our particular case, our factory seven way wire comes into the top here, and all the connections are these top connectors right here. So, we'll one at a time remove the terminals that cover up those wires, then remove those wires themselves and place back on the ones on the bottom that cover them up. This way, we can easily make our connection without becoming confused.Okay, now that we have all seven of our wires disconnected from the terminals on our junction box, we can pull those away, remove our grommet from those wires, you'll keep the grommet, then we'll remove the cable from the trailer. We've gone ahead and routed our new cable through the cable retainer on our frame, and we'll install the ends into our grommet. Okay, we installed our grommet back into our junction box, like the way it was originally.

Now we'll cut off the excess of our wires. Strip out the installation. And we'll crimp on new rain terminals which we have available on our website to each one of the wires. And we'll place them on to the corresponding stud where they belong. This blue wire here, that's for our electric trailer break output. So I'll put that one to the terminal that's label for our electric brakes. Next one's our green wire, and that one is for our tail lights. We'll do our brown wire next. That one's for our right turn signal. Your yellow wire next. That's for a reverse white output, or reverse yellow one for hydraulic trailer brakes, if your trailer had hydraulic brakes. Now we'll do a red wire. That one's for our left turn signal. Now we'll do our black wire. That's for our constant 12 volt power. That leaves us with the white wire. That's our ground wire. Now we'll reinstall all of our nuts. So, with all of our connections now made, we'll reinstall our cover. Now we'll test our our wiring by taking our plug and going into a tester. You can also plug it into the back of your truck. And we'll test out all of our functions. Now we'll start by turning our tail lights on. Okay, those are working good. Now we'll try our brake lights. Brake lights are working good. Do a right turn signal now. That's working good. Try out a left turn signal. That's working great. And that completes our look at and installation of the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable, part number 50-67-103.

After figuring out wire colors testing each circuit all is well and works great

by:

This was exactly what I needed to fit my snowmobile trailer. I have one of your connector boxes up high on the wall and this was a great length to go from the truck to the box without splicing the wires. It is a great quality electrical connector as well.

by:

I ordered several items to fix a trailer that had a previous shade tree mechanic fix. Items came quickly and were affordable. Website is very easy to navigate. I like to do things one time. Etrailer allows me to do just that with their expansive inventory. I have ordered several times and will continue to do so.

This plug connection was extremely well made. I prefer the removable head style to be able to fix wire issues but this seems to be very well made and stout. Wires were heavier than factory and the casing was much thicker.

by:

What’s with the wire colors?? I mean really ring out this cable before you use it. All the wire colors are not the standard trailer colors. Almost found out the hard way. Other than that great cable.

Thanks for the follow up Matthew. I am very glad that you tested and confirmed functions, which is what we recommend. I have confirmed with my contacts at Bargman and this wiring harness has the traditional RV wiring configuration. For this the colors and functions are as follows: Black is 12V power, Green is Tail and Running lights, Red is Left turn and Stop, White is Ground, Blue is Brake controller output, Brown is right turn and Stop. I have included a link below for your reference to one of our help articles.

my plug adapter is to short so how can I return it and get a longer one

Nice plug but just would not push on to any of the four plugs I have cord is pretty stiff and is going to be worse in the winter, only one they had with fifteen feet of cable should have just sent it back

by:

Very good quality product.

by:

Nice product except that the wire color positions are incorrect.

by:

One year old and everything has held up well

by:

Just what I needed, great quality in material and workman ship and. Super fast shipping........I will be back to order more, Thank you!

  • Instructions to Wire a Trailer for Electric Brakes
It sounds like you are speaking of the wires for the brake magnets. If this is correct, you will need to connect one of the wires to the brake controller output wire on your trailer connector and the other wire will need to be grounded to a clean metal surface on the trailer. I have included a diagram for you.

  • Solution for Needing 12 Foot Long 7-Way Extension
While there is a bit of variance between the color standards for how 7-way trailer connectors are wired the actual pin of the 7-way is the same regardless of what style you have. The two common ones are traditional and RV which I attached a picture of that shows the two color setups. You can see that the colors might be different but the pin outs of the two connectors are the same. So since we don't have a 12 foot long plug and lead the 15 foot plug and lead part # 50-67-103 that you...

  • How To Remove Tail Light Lens on 2009 Box Trailer
Normally to remove a light lens there would be screws to remove to remove the lens. If you do not see screws then the lens may be a snap on. To remove a snap on lens you could use a flat head screw driver to pry the the lens off carefully. Since I am not sure of your exact tail light assembly it is hard to say exactly how to remove the lens or if the lens is removable at all. Some tail lights are sealed to be submersible. If you want to send me a photo of the light I can give you more specific...

  • How Much Slack Is Needed In Trailer Wire Connection To The Tow Vehicle?
The length of wire desired depends on your vehicle connection and your personal preference. You want enough slack for turning, but not so much for dragging as you mentioned. A little extra slack isn't a problem and not enough could lead to stress and wire connection problems. In general, you will want between 16 inches and 24 inches of wire beyond the tongue depending on where your connection point is on your tow vehicle.

  • Recommended 7-Way Connector For 2013 Forest River 300BH
I recommended the 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 15' Cable - Trailer End # 50-67-103 which will replace the 7-way connector on your 2013 Forest River 300BH but it is a little longer than you were needing. You can cut the extra wire off to get the exact length you are needing. The color of wiring is not standardized, but the yellow wire is the center pin and while it is typically used for reverse lights it can be used for any other function you need as long as the wiring on your tow vehicle...

The 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 15' Cable - Trailer End # 50-67-103 uses copper connectors. My contact said the molded connectors from Bargman don't have any aluminum and are not tinned. They are simply copper conductors not CCA or copper tinned.

You don't have to install a junction box when you install the # 50-67-103 on your trailer. If you wanted, you could just run the wires to each function as needed. The black wire of this connector would be the one to use for the charge wire of your battery. Using a junction box like the part # 38656 would make installing the wiring easier though. I attached an install video for it for you to check out.

  • Gauge Wire to Use for Trailer with Triple Axle Setup that is 43 Feet Long Overall
It does sound like you need heavier gauge wire for the brake output circuit on your trailer to activate them properly. For that many axles and that length of trailer 10 gauge for the circuit just isn't going to cut it. I'd go with 8 gauge wire like Dexter recommends.

  • Horse Trailer Electric Brakes Lock Up When Backing Up the Trailer
There could be a short in the truck or trailer side connector that occurs when the vehicle is put in reverse. The center pin is typically the reverse light circuit. You will want to make sure that the truck and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. Inspect the power wires to the magnets and look for pinched, frayed, or damaged wires and fix as needed. Make sure the ground wires are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.

  • Troubleshooting Running Lights and Brakes Not Working Correctly on a Haulmark Trailer
The problem with the running lights not working could be several things. The first thing I would check is to make sure the 7-Way on your 2006 Chevy Silverado is getting a signal for the running lights. Using a circuit tester like # PTW2993, test the running light circuit which should be the pin in the 11 o'clock position if looking at the face of the plug. If the signal is coming through, make sure that the corresponding pin on the trailer side (pin in the 1 oclock position if looking...

First thing I would do is test the 7-way at the rear of your 2009 Ford F150 for proper function with a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993. This will determine if the problem is on the truck or the trailer. Check out the video I attached to see how this is done. • Universal 7-Way Trailer Connector to Use on a Custom Trailer
The Bargman 7-Pole, RV-Style Connector # 50-67-103 is a 15 foot long 7-way connector for use on a trailer. It's a universal product that can be used to replace an existing 7-way or added to a newly built trailer. We offer similar products in different lengths. See the attached link for our selection. If you're looking for just the connector without the lead, part # A7WCB is what you'll need instead. I've also attached a help article on trailer wiring you might find useful.

The 12V auxiliary power feed on your truck's 7-way can deliver a maintenance charge to the trailer's on-board batteries, but it does not carry enough juice to re-charge a battery that is depleted. A depleted battery really needs to be re-charged by a shore-power charger like one of the CTEK units, such as their # CTEK56353. These both will hold up well to wear and the protective insulation will handle normal use abrasions very well. Either of these will hold up well to cold weather use so you can do all the snowmobiling you desire without concern of your trailer connections working properly.

The center pin on your 7-way on the trailer side is the reverse light function. For instance the yellow wire on the Hopkins # H20044 or the Bargman # 50-67-103 is the reverse wire which isn't the norm because the yellow wire is typically the left turn and left brake wire. The key here is that the functions are in the correct locations. Wire color is going to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer which is why you should always wire by function and use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 or # PTW 2993 when wiring in a connector like # 50-67-103.
