Replacement Trailer Tire for a 10,060 Pound 5th Wheel Trailer with ST225/75R15 Tires

Question:

I have a 30 ft 5th wheel 10,060 # GVWR and need to replace tires. Currently have Power King Towmax ST 225/75 R15 tires. Two tires are 7 years old stamped 1209, and two are 6 years old stamped 3810. The tires look fine but all my research tells me they need replacement due to age. I have owned the 5th wheel for 1 year. so its a bit confusing about the best tire to go with. A little expert advice would be helpful.

The general rule is that trailer tires that are 6 years old or older should be replaced regardless of how much tread is left or how well they appear to be. There could be unseen damage caused by dry rot that could lead to tire failure.

The tires we carry, especially in the most common sizes, are usually no more than 1 year old. Some of the uncommon sizes might be a little older. The 225/75-15 is a common size.

I recommend sticking with that size if that is what the trailer manufacturer recommends. I assume that your 5th wheel trailer is a tandem axle requiring 4 tires. I recommend radial tire # TTWTRTM2257515D which is rated for 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. Four of these tires will provide a capacity of 10,160 pounds (the trailer is still limited to 10,060 pounds gross weight).

Taskmaster is a leader in the industry and provides tires for many OEM trailer manufacturers. I have included a link to a video review of this tire for you. I have also included a link to our help article on trailer tires.
